  • BMW X 5/ NISSAN QASHKAI - Used BMW X5 or Nissan Qashkai? What to choose? 13 Dec 2018 (Forum)
Hi everyone! I'm going to buy a new car soon, so I'd like you to share your opinion on the following matter: what is better - a 5 years old Nissan Qashkai or a 10 year old BMW X5? I mean, what would you buy for roughly the same price?
  • Audi A3 Sportback - S-Tronic autobox any good? A3 2.0 TFSI or S3 4 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I am considering either an A3 Sportback 2.0 TFSI Quattro or an S3 Sportback no more than 2 years old. I want the auto S-Tronic gearbox but have no idea how good they are or how reliable (my old S8 went through 3 gearboxes in 120000 miles (220,000 miles when I scrapped it) and I will be keeping this car for 10 years or so, so don’t want the same issues.
  • Yaris - Yaris 1.0 Kerb Weight 19 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Now the little 1.0 is just about OK pushing my car along, but have the newer models gained weight over the years?. I just took a test drive in the latest model, and whilst it felt OK, it seemed to need a bit more reving. A may get a newer version of the old shape (3 years old), and again is that the same weight as my current yaris?
  • Honda Jazz Hybrid - Honda Jazz Hybrid 15 Nov 2012 (Forum)
My wife is in the market for a year old Jazz CVT.  We've been offered a year old Hybrid by a Honda dealer.  We hadn't considered a Hybrid but the price for this one is attractive and all Hybrids have the CVT transmisssion.    The reviews on the Hybrid are broadly favourable.
  • Renault Laguna II 2.2 DCI - Injector Warning Light and Losing Oil 10 Feb 2012 (Forum)
Got a second opinion and he said he could find nothing serious, he steam cleaned the engine, flushed the engine, drained all the old oil and changed the oil pump. However the same thing happened again, dipstick has blown out followed by oil. Any ideas? As car is old, any repairs over a grand won't be worth it. Thanks Michael
  • Digital Cameras 16 Aug 2010 (Forum)
I sell cars on the internet and relly on superior photographs to draw attention to my adverts, I've been using a Fuji Finepix A605 which is probably about 6 years old and it's been taking crystal clear pictures filled with vibrant colour.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 99 1.9 Locking wheel nuts - Lost the key 15 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I was hoping it would be easy to get another one from Ford but they were very unhelpful and told my wife that their 'Rapid Fit' centre would remove the old nuts and charge us £40 for the new ones plus the labour to remove the old. This to me seems absurd and in any case hell would freeze over before I would let one of those places anywhere near my car.

  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 97 2.0 Loose baffle in 'back-box'? 24 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Judging from the rattling, it sounds as though a baffle has come loose in the exhaust back-box on the old Mondy. The 8-year old original was replaced 2yrs9mths ago. The rattling can only really be noticed when the car is idling at a standstill and can't be distinguished once moving. I'm not sure if this would be an MoT issue, but it still has another 9months to go on the current one.
  • Best £3-£4k convertible? 20 Apr 2008 (Forum)
As the g/f would use it most it will need to be able to carry much shopping, so an MX5 or similar is out. Three cars I'm considering are the old style Saab 900, the GM Saab 900/93 or the Audi 80 convertible from the 90's. Does anyone have any experience of these or have any other suggestions? It would need to be reliable so anything too old is out.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - '06 2.0 petrol ~ Water trickle on carpet 4 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I suspect the heater matrix, but as the car is only 1 year old (10k) i would find that surprising. There are no leaves blocking the drains below the windscreen and the drain holes are clear. Any ideas what its likely to be please?
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1994 1.9 XRD - Glow plug problem 21 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I got some new glow plugs for my old car [to get it half decent to sell it!] - but when taking the old glow plug out, the bit of the engine which the glow plugs screw into broke off! ...I was just asking what that bit is called, I'm not sure if its the cylinder head because I've looked at some images of cylinder heads and none of them have a top cover bit...
  • Nissan Primera III (1999 - 2002) - No shim on one back brake pad 12 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I bought a new set of rear pads and when fitting them found that one of the shims had rusted away and broke up when I removed the old pad. I have refitted the old pads and am going to get new shims tomorrow. A quick internet search refers to the shims as anti-rattle or squeal. I am therefore hoping the car is safe to drive? 80 mile round trip tomorrow.

  • hillman minx coil overheating 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
hi, this is driving my old man mad, i know this is an old car but someone may know the answer. dad's got a hillman minx 1600, 1965 and it has started to misfire when it's hot, after about 5 miles, then it dies. he's changed the carb, fuel pump, spark plugs, and had the distributor apart, changed the condenser and points.
  • How can you tell ? 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
My son got his imported 2nd hand Toyota Lucida yesterday. The dealer assured him they had changed the cambelt. They had shown him the old belt, (well, an old belt) but a suspicious person like me can't help wondering. The engine seems very clean, and has fresh oil, but should he have some documentation to say the job had been done ? Or does he just trust their reputation ?
