    A new classic car rally will take place in July in a bid to raise more than £150,000 for charity. Enthusiasts taking part in the Hope Classic Rally will drive 100 miles from Brooklands in Surry to Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire on 10-11 July. The event aims to raise money for HopeHIV, which helps children and young adults in sub-Saharan Africa who are affected by HIV and AIDS.

    A late-lot in Coys grandly-named True Greats sale, to be held in London on 3 December, looks set to cause quite a stir in Austin-Healey circles. It's selling what is described as the 'first right-hand drive Austin-Healey in existence', number 16 of 20 pre-production cars. The car was hand-built at Cape Works before production started at the Longbridge factory, and was delivered to Betty Haig in 1953.
  • CMC unveils long(ish)-wheelbase Jaguar E-type 12 Nov 2013 (News)
    One Jaguar E-type enthusiast approached world-renowned Jaguar restorer, Classic Motor Cars Limited of Bridgnorth, to build his ideal usable car - and CMC made some interesting modifications to make his dream come true. The left-hand drive 1968 Jaguar E-type Series 1 4.2 receives a lengthened floorpan, and a matching bespoke trailer. The car, extended to the specifications of Paul Branstad, the car's owner, who lives in the USA, has been stretched by four and a half inches during a major restoration carried out by CMC.

    Saratov to Voronezh This has been the rally's final full day of driving through Russian countryside, tomorrow teams head for the frontier and cross into Ukraine, heading for our overnight stop at Kiev. Surprise of the day was the Moskvitch, which is now throwing everything the little car can summon up at the competitive sections, sliding nicely on the dirt through the tighter corners to keep the 1600cc motor humming, the Russian team set sixth best time today.

      The event was the Edenbridge Fun Day, which was arranged by the Eden Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the racing cars' appearance was to celebrate the fact they were built in the town. The racing drivers were joined by noted motoring journalist Steve Cropley driving a McLaren Supercar, and John’s daughter Edwina driving a Mercedes-Benz Gullwing 300SL, plus two Grand Prix motorcycles from John’s past.   Leading the way was an Aston Martin Course Car driven by David Barzilay.

    The two cars formed the Works entry into the 1953 Le Mans 24-Hours but NOJ 393, it was so nearly not to be. Originally journalist Gordon Wilkins had been assigned to co-drive NOJ 391 alongside Belgian Marcel Becquart but, on the drive back from scrutineering to the hotel, the car was hit by a truck and suffered severe damage that would prove impossible to repair in time for the race.
