  • Seat Alhambra Diesel Fault Code 21 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I put this back on (assuming it was the wire to the oil pressure switch) but that changed nothing. If the vehicle has been recently running, the oil lamp doesn't flash. I suspect that the oil switch has developed a fault, and that this is some kind of early warning. Any ideas? Thanks
  • Alarm Bother 20 Nov 2002 (Forum)
This worked and stopped the retrigger. I recall having the same trouble on a company BMW. It usually happened after a long run on a cold day, and was something to do with the air in the cabin contracting as it cooled and setting the thing off. Or stuff creaking as it contracted. On the other hand, the sensor may simply be "k*******d" Any thoughts.
  • Audi 100 quattro 1989 cold starting. 13 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I was going to check the warm up valve but according to the manual this device is to richen the fuel mixture when the engine is running and warming up so I dont think that its anything to do with that. Its baffled me!!! Any ideas?
  • Emissions & Steering 18 Oct 2002 (Forum)
At idle speed the car is over-fuelling by a vast amount, yet on part and full throttle the car is running lean by an equally vast amount. The 2.5V6 has been Superchipped and has 3.0 hi lift cams fitted but mechanically nothing else has been changed. The car has previously passed with the superchip but has never been tested with the cams.
  • VW Passat Overheating 27 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Hello, My father has a 1988 VW passat 1.8 petrol, in the past year he has replaced the head gasket, and more recently, since he begun having problems, the radiator and water pump, however after running for approx 10 minutes the engine is overheating dramatiacally. Is it possible to have some kind of airlock in the system which would stop the water circulating ? you can hear water gurgling around.
  • Hard Shoulder Danger 22 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I have just read in today's paper that another emergency service worker, a paramedic, was seriously injured while attending to a motorist parked on the hard shoulder of the M4 near Bristol. A lorry had run into the back of the ambulance. (The motorist subsequently died following the collision.) During a visit to Italy, I noticed, on the only motorway I travelled on, that lay-bys are provided adjacent to the emergency phones.
  • VW sharan A/C weak links? 24 Jun 2002 (Forum)
I am thinking that the A/C system has been leaking gas for some time and that the system is now empty, as they have said that it was never much good, .... if the system has run out of gas will the compressor be damaged and display the symptoms above, or is it smart enough that if there is no gas it just will not power up?
  • Update - Undriveable Astra 1.8 CDX 8 May 2002 (Forum)
Symptons are engine shunt and kangaroo hops when changing gears at speeds below 25 mph. Main dealer is giving my friend the run-around. Anybody had a similar problem or know of a specific problem for a particular production batch?
  • Volkswagen Polo (1981 - 1991) - 1.3 coupe int. stopping 2 May 2002 (Forum)
When driving every things fine until she comes to stop at traffic lights etc, the engine then dies, when restarted no problems, smooth running until she has to stop again. This will go on for 2/3 days, any kind of weather then clear up for a week!. Had new fuel pump about 6months ago, all the usual bits replaced! I told her to press the clutch in!!!!
  • Enamelled badges 25 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Often, on the leather edition I'll put a badge on the book's slipcase, so far Aston, Bristol etc. have been very helpful, and supplied actual bonnet badges. For the current project I'm looking to have produced a short run of bespoke Enamelled badges, these also would have to be of the highest quality, most likely with two crossed flags in colour. Expense isn't really too much of an issue (for a change!). I may ask one of the manufacturers who their supplier is, but thought I'd ask here just in case someone has been down this route and has a contact ...
  • 5th gear R/Rover 16 Apr 2002 (Forum)
So now at last we can see the beast in action, so what does he do? Race it around a track to show us how he can drive and then run it across a damp field! It's no excuse to say that not meant will go off road - that is what the design spec was for and that is what it should be tested for. If I wanted (I should be so lucky to have the money!)

  • Big Brother 29 Mar 2002 (Forum)
My employer runs one of the new Ford 75E17 (Cargo) trucks as a hire vehicle. Recently a slipping clutch was replaced under warranty. The Main dealer said that pulling away in 2nd or 3rd gear had caused the problem and that a clutch modification was a 'pull away in first gear' sticker in the cab.
  • supermini choice 28 Mar 2002 (Forum)
However I feel that there are probably better deals or motors to be had for this sort of money especially as the Saxo is at the end of its run. Any suggestions as to what you might chase for this sort of money, there no PX or anything involved it will be a cash deal, I am tempted to get her to look at a Yaris or a Seat, what do you think?

  • Military vehicles. 6 Mar 2002 (Forum)
They seem to keep going, unless we are being shown the same film again and again. Years ago a friend of mine was employed running the then Shah of Iran's news agency in Paris. It was called Telepress. Real shambles. Half the staff slept on the floor and there seemed to be a lot of ripped bits of Rizzla papers about. When his bosses back in Iran wanted some action shots of a recent conflict, he used to paste together old WW2 footage and send it off.
  • Golf stiff throttle 22 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Chris Watson, please keep them coming - I would rather read your posts than the sour whingers who complain about you (but any personal insults, and I know where you live....). Anyway, after some joyless years of company car custody, I have started running and maintaining my own car, an '88 Golf GTI. The throttle is very stiff, particularly in the first few inches of travel. Any suggestion as to cause/how to rectify gratefully received. Regards, LAS FC
  • petrol pumps 20 Feb 2002 (Forum)
He accepted my explanation and charged me £20.00. Has anyone else experienced the problem of displays running on after the nozzle has been put back into the pump? This is not an example of some old fart who cannot handle putting petrol into his car, I would like to know if anyone else has experienced the problem?

Am I alone in getting fed up with the continual self satisfied crowing of those who run cars with X zillion miles on the clock, change the oil every 100 miles with DuckhamsSuperShell semi - synthetic oil purchased for 2.294FF a litre from a supermarket only 27 Km from Calais. Anyone who isn?
  • General views on Honda HR-V 27 Jan 2002 (Forum)
I'd like someting which (1) above all, will be reliable over, say, 8 years / 80K miles with excellent build quality; (2) can cope with the ever-deteriorating roads (i.e. not too fussed about potholes); (3) has boot space like an estate car, but offers higher driving position (4) has reasonable running costs - insurance, service, mpg etc. Performance not too important (other car gives the thrills); won't be used off-road, nor for towing. Any advice, please?
