VW Passat Overheating - Mr Fox
Hello,

My father has a 1988 VW passat 1.8 petrol, in the past year he has replaced the head gasket, and more recently, since he begun having problems, the radiator and water pump, however after running for approx 10 minutes the engine is overheating dramatiacally.

Is it possible to have some kind of airlock in the system which would stop the water circulating ? you can hear water gurgling around.

And finally does anyone have a good Passat of this model type - up to "L" reg which they would like to sell ? he needs PAS which his doesn't have and would like a sunroof, electric windows etc....

Hope you can suggest something

Cheers

Marc

The fact that you can hear a gurgling sound, which is water going into an empty space, would suggest an airlock.
If the system is full and operating correctly it should be almost silent.
