  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 97 1.9D Hard to start, then almost total fail to s 5 Aug 2008 (Forum)
He said that the car puffed black smoke during cranking and when it finally started it gave out some more black smoke. He also said that when it tried to run and stopped something moved on the injector pump top (LUCAS). I was not aare of any solenoid that moved any arms/levers on the pump but then I never cranked it and watched at the same time.. Q? Does the throttle arm automatically open when cranking?
  • `Luxury bloat` small cars, to efficiency priority? 2 May 2008 (Forum)
they must surely already have low body weight examples (superior in reduced weight to European models) running in Japan due to tax reasons, but have they chosen not to develop the ultra economical twin cylinder petrol and diesel units, which now seem the future in Europe? Have they a better engine solution?
  • ANPR cameras - they work y'know ! 25 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I asked how come I had been stopped like this and they explained I went under a gantry in Birmingham that had ANPR cameras and an alert had gone out - they had 6 cars involved in stopping me plus two miles further on they had a stinger ready at the exit where they expected to force me off had I started o run away !!!!!! They had followed me for 20 miles setting all this up and I was totally oblivious - they didn't even bother about the speed as I fluctuated between 80-90 for many miles. They were very polite, courteous even, when they realised the situation and the fact that Lancashire police had forgotton to take my details of the stolen register.
  • Treating your car well - fueling 23 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Also i idle the car for about a minute after my a-road / dual carriageway commute to let to turbo oil drain / or cool down before switch off - also never driving hard or revving too much until warm. I'm hoping all these things will help in the long run. But i can't help but revisit the fueling issue; surely its very important to feed your car decent fuel, i suppose its a bit like feeding yourself.
  • peugeot 206s 1.4 tiptronic auto fault 22 May 2007 (Forum)
Also if this garage try to fix it and make it worse I assume I won't be able to then take it back to Peugeot ? In between times it runs like a dream, but it is quite unnerving when it happens. Does anyone have any idea why this would happen please ? Is it dangerous ? Finally how would I stand if I asked for a refund ? I drive young children up & down the motorway in this and when it loses acceleration it is really scary and to be honest I have lost all confidence in the car now, am I within my rights to ask for a refund or am I obliged to let them repair it ?
  • Should I buy a SAAB? 1 May 2007 (Forum)
However, my husband has an S reg Passat petrol esate also inherited from parents so we don't really need another estate. He doesn't want to part with it even though he is a student and it is expensive to run. My dad LOVED the Saab and said I should buy it but has now changed his mind because he thinks we shouldnt have 2 estate cars. My parents are concerned that a) I only have 3 month warranty b) Servicing and parts are dear c) If anything like electrics go wrong I am s5*(&*&^&* d) Insurance is dear!
  • 6 drops of water 130,000 miles, Filters 20 Sep 2006 (Forum)
As the years went by the plastic and element darkened a little but it was clear the fuel flow was fine ( and very visibly so with the engine running) that was for the next 15 years and 110,000 thousand miles. On another car, a Maestro with the Perkins prima, I did 130,000 over 6 years and changed the fuel filter at the recommended interval, every time.
  • Tesla Roadster - future or flop? 23 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It doesn't even help if you don't use the car much: "Li-Ion batteries stored for any time irreversibly lose capacity. The clock starts from the time the cell is made, and runs whether the battery is used or not. It loses approximately 10%/year." From: http://tinyurl.com/ms8fa That's a loss of 25 miles a year on range, even without taking charge cycle degradation into account...
  • No road tax, no SORN, no logbook, no MOT 19 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Mum is dead. The car is sat on the drive, the MOT has expired, the Insurance has expired and the tax has run out. I can't find the log book and a reminder for the tax never arrived. Mum died on Christmas eve and the tax expired at the end of March. I now have the letters of administration so I can deal with her estate.
  • General Motors press release 25 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Macintosh would make a car that was powered by the sun, was reliable, five times as fast and twice as easy to drive, but would run on only five percent of the roads. 6. The oil, water temperature, and alternator warning lights would all be replaced by a single "This Car Has Performed An Illegal Operation" warning light. 7. The airbag system would ask "Are you sure?"
  • Black box motor insurance faults 9 Nov 2005 (Forum)
We pick up the problem as soon as the signal fails, but the driver has no idea anything is wrong.' I know this is still early days but I cannot see how a road pricing scheme could be run that was 100% efficient. This experiment is with just only 5,000 cars not 12 million vehicles, and is causing problems. Could this just be another attempt to expand the number of state employees with no added gain for the taxpayer.
  • VW recalls - poorly informed dealers 18 Sep 2005 (Forum)
My 3 young children love travelling in the car and far preferred it to the Mondeo Estate that we hired on holiday. Have I just had a run of bad luck or is this typical of VW servicing?
  • Party Transport Policies 22 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Traffic cops who are not intelligent enough to cope with proper police work will be allowed to wear their uniforms for a transitional period before being re trained as vicars. Pram lanes will be created in all shopping centres. All cars will be converted to run on Venos to help stop congestion. 4 wheel drive vehicles will only be allowed to drive off road, therefore stopping mothers picking up their children from school in them when they only live 100 yards down the road.
  • Tyres buying/selling and pressures 19 Oct 2004 (Forum)
So I had to buy 2 new tyres in an emergency at the nearest place at the time (NATIONAL TYRES) The cheapest tyre they had they say was AVON ZZ3 but ever since changing to these tyres and the tyre pressures re-checked in my tyres to about 30 psi (my car had been running underinflated at about 26-28 psi)the car's ride is harder, rougher and the road noise has increased, its also slower and takes longer to stop. Then I took it to my local SEAT dealer for another electronic problem they found that my tyres were overinflated at 38 psi when it should be about 33.
  • 1986 BMW 318i Starter Motor (E30) 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Is there anything I can do to try and repair it or can I get one for a reasonable price from a scrap yard - if possible I want to try and keep the car running until it dies and don't want the starter motor packing up completely. Cheers Keith
  • Golf Mk2 GTI - Forcibly expelled coolant 24 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I contacted the garage who replaced my temperature sender and suggested that I'd look for a split pipe and would get back to them if there were any further problems. Whilst running the engine up to operating temperature during checking I noticed a bit of steam/vapour escaping the expansion bottle, and then suddently a lot of of water rushed up the bottle and came out in quite a jet from the expansion bottle.
  • Oh so *that's* what the BMW badge means 15 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Still, this car feels *good* somehow, it looks and feels the part, I keep thinking I've stalled it 'cause that straight-six runs so quiet and smooth. It floats around the roads (I live on the Isle of Man so we have some fantastic no-speed-limit roads to drive around), it's comfortable, it's posh, it's the first car I've owned which my wife seems quite chuffed with.
  • Changing Times 8 Jan 2004 (Forum)
The roads are still usually empty, and the main ones are of good quality, though for how long now on either count? Connex run the local bus company though, and Tescos are springing up everywhere, so it is becoming more like home from home each time we go, even without congestion and worn out roads! Shifting the goal posts a little, you might expect Prague to be in advance of the rest of the country, which it is, but even so I was amazed at the number of new model stretched Seven Series Beemers (all with totally blacked out windows and my-rims-are-bigger-diameter-than-yours attitude), top spec new Merc 600s, and even Porsche Cayennes (not a single one of which was a non turbo) yesterday.
  • Mondeo recall? 4 Oct 2003 (Forum)
The fault was first discovered as Ford's new Mondeo advert hit the nation's television screens recently. According to the script, the stunt-mouse was supposed to end up in the engine compartment after running along the exhast pipe, squeezing through the catalyser, climing the exhaust down-pipe, finding a cylinder with both inlet and exhaust valves open, contorting his way into and out of the cylinder head, sprinting along the inlet manifold, chewing his way through the air filter and emerging to sit on the car's radiator.
  • The Saddest car selling story yet....? 30 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Having sold a few cars in my time, my luck, has sometimes held out right to the end, and has been known to run out at any of the above stages. Hence I thought I had experienced every problem in the above sequence of events - UNTIL TODAY! When I had decided to go for this Discovery I placed an advert in the Devon and Cornwall Trading Pages (Our more local answer to the likes of LOOT etc), using their website.
