Tyre speed rating surprise 28 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Tyre Speed rating table (Rating / kph / mph) S 180 / 112 T 190 / 118 U 200 / 124 H 210 / 131 V 240 / 149 W 270 / 167 Y 300 / 186 VR 210+ / 130+ ZR 240+ / 150+ Now imagine a Pirelli P6000, this being a tyre widely considered to be run of the mill; it is factory fitted in huge quantities to 'family' and 'executive' cars the world over and is specified as a replacement by many a leasco. Both are large markets where manufacturing cost is a major factor, and you would think as a consequence, tyre design targets would become marginalised. -
Need legal advice re: used car 23 May 2005 (Forum)
I'm sure this isn't the case as it works intermittently - it's the bit that the bulb fits into that is a loose fit. Secondly they say re: the headlamp washer fluid: "Yeah mate we looked into it and you've run out of wash fluid - that's why the warning light came on!!". I explain that I'm not a halfwit and that the actual problem is the leak, not the fact that the warning light is on. They're looking into this now. -
Citroen C8 Burning Smell 22 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Occassionally there is a small whisp of smoke/steam that comes out from under the car, again front left/right. ii. when we stop the car and turn the engine off, there is sometimes a whine-ing noise coming from under the car, as if there is a small motor still running. The only way to stop it is to open and close some/all the doors and un-lock/re-lock the car. We have had RAC (AKA Citroen Assist) out twice. The first time the guy found some bitumen type material on the exhaust. -
Auctions..buyer beware 27 May 2004 (Forum)
Just had a phone call off the garage and apparently the head has been off recently which more than likely means they tried to repair the head but for whatever reason its failed so maybe looking at a new head. Got to go and have a chat with the mechanic tomorrw. I dont want to bodge the car and run it through the block simply because I wouldn't wish this on anyone else. Moral of this story? Just be very careful. I am not a total novice and simply missed some basic checks due to auction nerves. -
Smoky calibra 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
His description of the problem is below: The car smokes when it feels like it! Usually it needs to warm up first or after a run when hot. Colour is dirty white/grey. The exhaust is then black with soot. When idling it will start putting out a little then quite quickly build up to a lot. High revs either clears it (and then it starts again) or just lets lots of smoke out. -
Dealer advice re naff Vauxhall 20 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Not only has the car been thoroughly dreadful, the dealer service is appalling. They never call back, never repair the car properly first time, they've run the damn thing out of petrol leaving me nearly stranded when I collected the car late one evening. I have just over 12 months to go on the hire purchase before I hit the magical 50% mark when I can tell the finance company to stick it where the sun don't shine so I can't get rid of the car this instance without a financial hit. -
which fuel (petrol) 8 Aug 2003 (Forum)
In fact, I realised that unless circumstances dictated that I had to fill up away from my home town, these two different cars had both been run exclusively on that s'market's petrol! I put new plugs in again, and then for some months only filled up at 'name brand? petrol stations - and the misfire never recurred. I'm sure it's fine to use from time to time, but since then I would no longer use supermarket fuel ALL the time. -
344bhp - Oh My Gawd! 22 Jul 2003 (Forum)
My friend got a new A4 in March and Audi invited him and a guest to this driving day where you could drive a selection of Audis - Unaccompanied!!! Well i say Unaccompanied. The only accompanied drive was in the New Audi S4. Heres a brief run down, but if you want to know more just ask! Audi S4. Accompanied with the 25yr old salesman in the back (no control - ha ha!), but when we got in and asked if we could give it a boot his response was - 'you can redline it if you wish'. oh. my. gawd. -
This damned Vauxhall Omega (again!!) 19 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I\'m guessing I coukld get a second hand installed for about £300 but this leaves me having spent £1200 (best case scenario) on engine gbox and £400 on service/repairs since buying the car last Novemeber for £2900 leaving me with an investment of £4500 for a N reg which now has 77k on the clock and full VSH (which quite frankly is worthless as both the main components of the car have been replaced) I obviously can\'t afford to buy another car is this car was bought basically to last for many years. I am sorely tempted to sell this car when the engine warranty runs out and buy a Japanese car which would not look as good but will probably be 20 x more reliable and won\'t cost a fortune to maintain. Have I just been unlucky or is there a particular problem with a 1996 N 2.0 GLS 16v auto Omega? -
Very cheap car suggestions 8 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Neither of them know much about cars, and don't have access to a decent, trustworthy mechanic (they live in Solihull by the way - anyone know someone decent local to them?). I'm no ace mechanic, but have run a few ropey motors. Now, I suggested Nissan Bluebird (my mate has one at the moment and is dead chuffed with it), but apparently these are quite thin on the ground in Brum these days. He's suggested an early Primera - I wasn't aware they were that cheap, but I've told him to watch out for ex-taxis. -
Primera Starting problem 5 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Sunday lunchtime I started it and moved it, making sure I ran it for a while, knowing what these Cat equiped cars can be like to re-start after a 30-60 second run. Sunday night my mum went to go out and it just wouldn't start, not even trying to fire, just a sound of an engine turning over very fast (Chain cam luckily). We left it until Monday Morning, again, turning over quickly, it was trying to fire but never made it. -
Alfa nostalgia 21 Apr 2002 (Forum)
The trouble was that fuel spurted and missed the pot, and a spark from the distributor ignited the engine bay. What a panic. I've never seen the old fellow run so fast for the extinguisher, and it worked first time - and for a dry powder jobbie that was a surprise. The shame was that the cam covers were still off and the powder went everywhere. I won't repeat what he said! -
5 weeks with a Benz A180 elegance 30 Oct 2001 (Forum)
most of my driving was on B roads and unclasified or 3 or 4 digit A roads but I did have one high speed run on the motorway from Cardiff to London where it was just as much at home keeping up with the 80 to 90 mph traffic in the fast lane... MPG for the whole trip was 47.8. I found the rige to be good almost everywhere but the streets of south London near it's London Bridge home...which which seem to be much in need of remetaling... -
hassles buying a car 27 Jul 2001 (Forum)
t have current car insured the day before the handover. Since my tax/mot are about to expire, and I running out of time to get an insurance certificate sorted, this is going to cost me lots of hassle. Anyway I?m not at all happy. Toyota man is going to get his boss to ring me tomorrow. I am upset and I? -
Smallish 4wd cars 27 Apr 2024 (Forum)
You may recall that the aim was to buy something around £15k with good ground clearance, 4wd and relatively.low running costs. These were my findings: Fiat Panda 4x4 Cross 0.9 Twinair 2019ish- I drove two of these. They drove identically, although one has a slightly odd noise coming from the clutch. -
Lexus LS, Lexus RX450h - I tried LS500h and RX450h, here's what happened 30 May 2023 (Forum)
Overall, summarizing how I felt at the end of the test drive: RX450h is a perfectly satisfactory vehicle that I can see us using every day and be perfectly content with. It has plenty of space, plays music well, pulls away nicely, can run all day and do all jobs. LS500h, on the other hand, is a vehicle that makes you feel pampered and happy, very happy. It has decent amount of storage, plenty of sitting space, very comfortable seats, is excellent at playing music, pulls away powerfully, can run all day and then some and can do almost all jobs. -
Most impressed by 17 Apr 2020 (Forum)
Not as solid as it should’ve been perhaps but it was more robust mechanically than later variants as it was much simpler. I really rated the 318 which was much cheaper to buy and run than the 6cyl cars but was quick enough to be fun on the road while the 325 had to really be driven illegally to get close to its limits. The 4cyl belt driven engines were sweet revving and quite torquey too. -
Toyota Prius plug in 2017 - Very quick review 7 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Disappointed no heated windscreen like the Leaf, so it was out with the scraper. Then demist the car which meant engine running. First thing was how far I felt from the windscreen. The A pillars are very large and possibly intrusive and no way of seeing the front of the bonnet. There looked to be plenty of rear seat leg room, not sure about headroom as the roof does slope. -
Various - New Car??? - Replace writ off C Class Executive SE 8 Jan 2014 (Forum)
around 50 mpg mixed driving, but happy with 40 if I like the car that much, looking to keep it approx. 3 years and I know there are no guarantees, but I don’t want any major expense in running it during this time. My shortlist is: Same again – as above lovely car, great value, can pick a very good one up for around £13-15k depending on age (min 10 plate) and mileage (max 45k). -
Corsa CDTI 2004 - LOTS of Black smoke..... 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Now after doing quite a bit of reading my symptoms sound like an inlet blockage or exhaust Blockage and the more i try to run it the worse the problem gets and the harder it is to start to the degree it now sounds like the glow plugs are not working now (sounds like it fires on one cylinder then with a bit more cranking gets two going etc but it doesn't quite catch on four at the moment) I did think it could be the Cat being blocked but i have tried starting it with no down pipe on and it still is not having any.
