oil sludge etc. 6 Nov 2005 (Forum)
An American article on engine sludge, Power flushing etc. http://www.andrewsofprinceton.com/shared/nines/002.cfm I know oil change intervals vary by operating conditions but once again I note the often recommended US period is much shorter than our 6K /6 months. from the link.... "Most professionals in the auto-repair industry would suggest 3-5,000 miles regardless of the type of oil used and not go more than 4 months regardless of miles." -

VW Polo 1.2 E petrol - VW Polo 52 sooting up one cylinder 23 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I read about the cam chain slipping being a common fault, linked with the oil. Could this cause it to burn oil and misfire? The previous owner was not a careful driver and may never have checked the oil as she relied on her mechanic uncle who serviced it once a year :( It has run for another year with me topping up the oil and changing the spark plugs only once and passing it's MOT. -

Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - 02 2.7 Tiptronic Main Oil Seal 24 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Appreciate that this is a 7 year old car but I would have thought a Porsche should be able to make or source an oil seal so not have to have its gear box removed every four years or so to change. Not sure whether to let the Porsche dealer change the seal again or ask about another good will gesture or trust it to a specalist repairer, but I am not sure who they are. -
Omega pollen filter.. 20 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Also when replacing it be sure to clean the drainage flap in the plastic housing below, it can get full of gunge and aggrevates damp. Also had the "Kwik Fit" Mobil 1 oil & filter change, absolute bargain considering that 5 Litres of Mobil 1 in Tesco's is £30! Car is running much smoother and quieter with it (surprisingly) though I recommend watching kwik fitters whilst they do the job, it took 3 men to change the oil on my omega and even then, they didn't mop up the old oil spilled in the plastic cowling underneath the oil filter (which left a bit of a mess for me to clean up). -
MAZDA 323F - MAZDA 323F SOUNDS LIKE A DIESEL 15 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Great little car however recently there has been a strange loud tapping like noise coming from the main engine block. I have had many different opinions of what it could be: 'The oil needs changed' or one of the valves could be blocked . Basically the car sounds like a Diesel, although the car still drives ok, the water and temp are fine, the oil is still at the right level etc...however i hace been told it may be the type of oil in the car that is the problem, I am going to change the oil this weekend and see if it makes any difference, but thought I would ask on here first just in case anyone knows of any known issues or similar issues with mazda's or 323's? -
2.0 zetec mk1 auto - Focus burning oil smell 28 Dec 2012 (Forum)
My zetec mk1 has a strange misty smoking burning smell coming from the right hand side of the engine near the pcv valve. I have changed the rocker cover gasket, changed the sump as it was badly corroded and replaced new oil. Im pulling my hair out as i cant pin point where its comming from. There is a misty burning smell, oil is dripping onto the exhaust and then its burning up through the exhaust and thats when you see smoke comming from the front right of the engine. -
Daewoo Lanos 1.4 8v - Fitting hydraulic lifters 12 Aug 2011 (Forum)
--[endif]--> Got a ticking noise on my 1998 Daewoo Lanos 1.4 8v (similar to the old Astra engines). Before the oil change the ticking was only present during initial start-up from cold and went away. Did an oil & filter change using carlube 5-30w fully synth long life oil (on offer at wilko’s) but since then the ticking does not go away even after a good long run and increases with engine revs. -

Skoda Fabia (2000 - 2007) - 04 1.2 Oil light 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Wifey took her car to work this cold morning, phones me and says it is flashing 'OIL' on the dash. She gets home and it is still flashing and beneath the odometer it also flashes a number of miles, initially saying 50. I check the oil level and it seems fine, I add a little bit of oil and it is still flashing, the figure has changed to 68. -

Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1996 1.8 Oil Over fill - problem 2 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Recently I have had sever thick white smoke out of my exhaust (like a Gary Numan concert) ! ! - After some consideration I realised I'd over filled my oil by about 1.5 Quarts. which caused much pressure in the crank forcing oil up and past the pistern rings, I've drained and change oil to fix this fault the engine appers to run just fine again. -
Low viscosity oils, older cars, fuel saving 1970`s 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Point of interest to me is the cars of the era would have had their rings and plain bearings set for a thicker oil. Did you ever try these oils out and what was the result?
