  • Nissan Qashqai - Nissan qashqai crackling as initially pulling away 28 Apr 2025 (Forum)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1F-YE-vX_WPu60TfuDR-qguPCz_hWFJxQ/view?usp=drivesdk Is this something I need to urgently be concerned about as I’m driving to South France in 3 weeks time! Thanks for your time!
  • BMW 5 Series - Changing my 5 Series for a more 'sensible' car 8 Mar 2025 (Forum)
I no longer do a lot of miles (due to the health condition) but do still make a trip to the Dordogne in France for a family holiday each year. I am looking for suggestions for a car that drives as nice as the 5 series, is very spacious and comfortable, and is quiet on the motorways. I am really not sure about getting an SUV, the ones that I think are going to be comfortable will cost a lot to own and are too big.
  • 12V Fridge without dual battery? 29 Oct 2019 (Forum)
If the Aux sockets were permanently live as in some previous cars I've had then box would be disconnected for stops longer than service station breaks.  That of course is all in European climates albeit including South of France. Under African conditions then the usual YMMV advice applies!!.
  • any - visit britain advice for visiting drivers 24 Apr 2018 (Forum)
The current threads on driving in France got me thinking as to what visitors to UK are advised. The "Visit Britain guide to driving in the UK" is a corker. It lists that you should have reflective jackets, triangles, spare bullbs etc as if they are mandatory.
  • any - French Tailgating 23 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Fortunately my old x type diesel will produce 007 levels of black smoke when dropped a cog or two and floored, which tends to discourage them. But recently on a trip in France I saw time and time again - even on emptyish roads - a tendency for drivers to accelerate to within a few feet of the back bumper before swerving out to overtake when they could have more reasonably (and safely) pulled out further back and made the whole manouevre more fluid.
  • All - Conventional cars on way out 14 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Volvo has announced that from 2019 they won't make any more diesel or petrol cars, it's eletric or hybrid from then. France wants to clear the country of petrol and diesel by 2040. So when there are millions of electric cars around we are going to need 20 more power stations according to the press to cope with the demand for electric.
  • HGV Restrictions in outside lane 28 May 2012 (Forum)
Just spent 3 days motoring on Germany, France, Netherlands, Belgium- all had restrictions on HGV's in the outside lane during daylight hors on their two lane motorways. What a difference it made and if it can be done in those countries without the World ending then why not here- even if it means raising the speed limit for HGV's.
  • peugeot 307 sw 2002 - Dull thud when trying to start, and won't start at 26 Nov 2011 (Forum)
But not a Pug, I am sick of the orange particle filter lights coming on, 500€uros, and the diesel additive running out, another 400€uros. Peugeot dealers are driving Mercedes here in France! Thanks in advance for any advice.
  • Toyota Landcruiser - Lack of Spare Wheel 13 Jun 2011 (Forum)
The RAV 4 looked ideal until we found it now comes without a spare wheel, just a foam can. We occasionally take long trips through France and have suffered several punctures in the past . You can't go far on runflats or foam and replacements can be hard to find (and expensive) in the middle of the continent on a Sunday. Also foam won't work on blow outs or large punctures.

  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 05 1.5 Changing headlights..... 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Can someone advise on how easy/difficult it is to change headlights on my 2005 Renault Megane Grand Scenic please? I have had to buy some French ones as I now live over here in France (for the Control Technique) and have just been stung by my local mechanic for work on my other car so cannot afford for him to do these too!!! I have already bought the lights and they are due to arrive tomorrow - and I need to get my CT done by the end of the week really.

  • Volvo C70 v Saab 9-3 Viggen. What to buy?! 19 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I have long been toying with the idea of having a fun 2nd car, mainly for weekend/evening blasts I have a budget of around £5k, and would like to keep 4 seats and a bit of boot space for trips to France/Belgium etc. I have (I think) narrowed it down to either a Saab 9-3 Viggen convertible, or a volvo C70 2.3 T5 Cabriolet..... Does anybody have any real world experience of these cars? They seem like cracking value for the money (esp. the Volvo), and £5k would buy me 02/03 example with reasonable miles.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 2.0 TDCI Cambelt 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Everything runs sweet on it and I know Ford say 100k for a belt change but as I have always erred on the side of caution I'm wanting to get the cambelt changed in the next 10k miles (before a trip to france in summer) Have always done my own belts on past cars (lastest was a 406 HDI) but I think this one, without the aid of a haynes book may be a little bit tricky, so think I'll send it to the local indy.

Hi, My 04 model year ford focus is now in France. I would like to know if it is possible to adjust the headlamps so that they do not point towards the left and therefore dazzle other drivers> The vehicle must go for a French MOT (Controle Techique).
