., but noticed that when ticking over and pulling off ht leads the engine cut out apart from the 3rd one it wud run the same. is this normal? you can rev the balls off it when idle buttheres hardly any power to drive at all and when driving it just wants to stall. also there is a hissing noise coming from the Nissan Micra 2000 1.4 SE+ - Long Term Fuel Trim 18 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Having had the front changed for a legitmate Bosch sensor (part number: 0258005263) and the wiring harness reconnected where it had been cut by the last garage the car seemed to be running a lot better and the fuel trim started reducing (they said it should freefall after a few hundred miles back down towards 0%) and wouldn't need anything else doing to it. It got down to 9% last week when I last checked so I thought it was indeed nearly fixed.
  • Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta P0420 code problem 6 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Have read through the forums and have got a lot of useful info on p0420 code which is "Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)". I know that this can be a number of different causes to this code. I have run an OBDii diagnostic check with a scanner hooked up to my laptop and have recorded the O2 sensor voltage output. I warmed the car up by driving it for 20 minutes and then hooked it up. From what I can tell the voltage of the front O2 sensor fluctuates between 0.1 and 0.9v and responds to throttle almost instantly.
  • Toyota Yaris - 3rd party blaming me after riding into back of my car! 20 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Motorbike run into the back of the Car today scuff to rear bumper and small dents on rear quarter, so nothing major, my wife was driving and I was not there  He accepted it was his fault at the scene and also to me over the phone when my wife called me to inform me.
  • Audi A4 1.9 tdi Quattro. AFN engine - Figure this one out?? 14 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Turbo doesn't come in (Not limp mode) I've changed the Maf (twice) I've changed the N75 valve and cut the bad bits (frayed ends of the vacuum pipes) each time the car runs spot on for a couple of miles and then drops back to what it was before. It never regains any power unless I change something, take a pipe off, remove power from the valves and then put it back again.
  • Skoda Fabia - engine stutter and high oil use 8 Jan 2011 (Forum)
2003 plate 1.4 16v 100BHP saloon, BBZ engine with 50,000 on the clock, which over the last three years has developed an engine stutter. Engine runs sweet in all other respects. This can occur at any time but usually when the engine is in 4th gear at or near 2000 RPM on a slight incline. Basically, there is a sudden power loss, which can be sufficiently severe and sudden to throw me foward in the seat (despite being belted), Tacho needle dives to zero and then engine recovers within 1-2 seconds without further incident.
  • SAAB 9-5 - 9-5 tdi 2.2 Cold start, no glow plug light problem 21 Dec 2010 (Forum)
When car is hot starts a treat, when car has been standing overnight in this cold weather it can take a good 5-6 seconds to start followed by a large white cloud of smoke, car runs fine on the whole just a b***** to start in cold weather. When the car starts from hot or in normal temp weather no smoke or any other problem. I decided to disconnect the plug to the water temp sensor on the top of the engine and hey presto the glow plug light came on !
  • Peugeot 307 1.6 Sport (Petrol) - Peugeot 307 Noises 18 Oct 2010 (Forum)
So far I have had a laptop in my boot recording noise, and I have captured it quite well, so at least I know it is something under or near the wheel arch. Is there a place that could run the back tyres up to speed whilst being able to check the components with a mechanics stethoscope to isolate the noise? Things are getting desperate, and I was looking at ways of dampening components to isolate the noise but as you may have guessed I am not mechanically minded and don't want to continue to splash cash around only for mechs to say they can;t hear it..
  • Ford Transit 2003 FWD 2.0 TDCI - Dumping oil or fluid onto driveway and trailing 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)

  • Renault Clio I Petrol - fuel economy 14 Sep 2010 (Forum)
I've run out of things to check anybody got any ideas as i'm thinking of putting it into  Renault  to see if they can find anything or calling the xfiles to find the mysteriously missing petrol as its costing me a small fortune in petrol its only just better than my 4x4 ...
  • How do you deal with aggressive drivers? 16 Aug 2010 (Forum)
What really got to me today was what happened next. The Polo passes me, then pulls into my lane and brakes hard in front of me, almost causing me to run into the back of them, so I had to swerve around them. The driver in the Polo then floors it and is off, thankfully not to be seen again... I was wondering what the backroomers would have done in a similar situation.
  • 1999 R reg Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 LE LPG - Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3 LE LPG help wanted... 10 Jun 2010 (Forum)
His overall diagnosis was that it must be the ECU that is failing because strangely the engine management light was not identifying the problems with the engine. The Chrysler garage want £95 to run the same tests that the RAC man did, and they have already started indicating quotes of over £2000.  The car is worth less than that so thats not even an option. It would be a shame to sell this vehicle as sc*** because I only hd it for a few weeks before these problems started.
  • Mazda 6 SL 2008+ - Mazda 6 Handbook - Should be amended/revised 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Apart from the simple 'Engine Malfunction' Does it mention if you do not check the oil levels and they rise up too high that it will cause an engine over-run like what happened to me? Nope.... Does it mention how to stop a car when the car acellerates out of control and what to do in that situation? Nope.... I don't get it, if it's so important for Mazda to put a sticker in the engine compartment to warn you of the levels then why is the above not in there?
  • Honda Accord UK (2008 - ) - 09 2.2 Climate control on Diesel - woefull output 3 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Firstly it takes 30mins minimum of driving before the car starts to heat up. Secondly even with the Climate control at MAX (28degrees) running for 40mins the car gets warm, but no more. We have tested the temperature within the car by using household digital thermometers, and cannot get them to read any more than 20 degrees. We ran with two units in parallel so that we had a benchmark to verify that they were both giving the same reading.
  • Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - 2004 Porsche 986 Boxster S 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
However, I don't drive every day. Usually only short trips some evenings, to the supermarket, around the city. Would have longer runs at the weekends and travel a good 200 miles up to London every couple of months. Annual mileage is low, at around 6 - 8k. Please let me know your thoughts! They are very much appreciated.
  • New car - old car? £7,000 down the drain? 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The problem is that a new DPF diesel can`t do that exceptional stop start work and we have been warned off even contemplating it by a Fiat dealer. That leaves a small petrol motor - but the constant cold running - of typically a few hundred yards - half an hour parked - means almost double the fuel used. That would be around £2,800 extra on fuel over the next 8yrs + £6,000 cash to acquire a new Panda petrol (+PX) Assuming in another 8yrs the new Panda itself will then be worth around £1,000/£1,500 (as is the Punto today) then it looks like it would cost just under £9,000 extra - as opposed to keeping the current Punto another 8yrs.
  • Peugeot 406 (1996 - 1998) - 97 1.8 Timing belt question 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
At the same time they had replaced head gasket and rebored new thread for spark plug that had popped out. I seem to remember them saying that when they first got the car running after their work it had a nasty rattle but they had fixed it. However ever since all that work, the car has driven with a serious 'flat spot'. (Don't know if ANY of that is relevant but I thought the more info the better!!)
  • Land Rover Freelander 2 (2006 - ) - Cold Start / Glowplugs 9 Jan 2010 (Forum)
I imagine that the electronics would still activate the glowplugs during cranking and after the cold start to aid smooth running and minimise emissions. Two questions:- To other Freelander 2 owners, how cold does it have to be before there is a delay while the glowplugs do their stuff? To other users who have this 2.2 engine in other vehicles (Peugeot 4007 and 407, Citroen C-Crosser and various C5s and C6s, Mitsubishi Outlander 2.2, Ford S-Max and Mondeo etc.), which may have more conventional ignition keys, do the glowplugs on your car activate in cold temperatures and does the engine start OK if you ignore the glowplug warning light?
  • What short journies do 6 Oct 2009 (Forum)
http://i353.photobucket.com/albums/r370/bathtubtom/S6300469.jpg The little pile of black bits is what I assume to be the perforated tube that runs through the box. It seems this rusted through and allowed the wadding to block the exhaust path, increasing back pressure and forcing more exhaust through the EGR. The back box is now completely empty, I can see right through it, but stangely the car isn't any louder.
  • Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 04 2 Have I found a "Tracker" in my used car ?? 17 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The has always forced me to use a touch-key to disable the immobiliser every time I want to start the car which is a real PITA considering that the OEM security system includes an immobiliser which is more than good enough for a five year old car. I had presumed that the device was somehow plumbed into the ignition and starter lines between running from the steering column and it would simply need cutting out an restoring the connections to make the car able to be started with the key alone...... well I was wrong ! When I removed the facia trim this afternoon, I was surprised to see a big black box with multiple connections with the markings "EagleEye" and "Mini Vehicle Unit" and a large black relay.
