  • Vauxhall Omega - Car wont start after standing for a year 9 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I put a gallon of petrol in as the tank was almost empty (light flashing on dash) Charged the battery and started it up. It started first time. I let it run for a few minutes then drove it down the road, where after about 50 yards, it cut out. Now it wont start at all.. It turns over fine, but just wont kick into life. I've managed to get it back on the drive using the starter  Any pointers or tips on where to start looking gratefully received.
  • Rough ride on BMW 5 Series 6 Nov 2014 (Ask HJ)
I borrowed a BMW 3 Series recently, on runflat low profile tyres, and noticed the ride was considerably smother than my 5 Series on 17-inch wheels. Why...
  • Renault Espace (1997 - 2002) - 01 2.2 failing to start 3 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I've checked the glow plugs both power to and function cleaned egr (on off chance) squirt of easy start and starts and runs perfectly will not retart once stopped! Their is compustion leakage from no1 injector but this does not want to budge. I have been warned that these can turn in to a major job so don't want to persue if their is another fault, i'm booked in to see if their are any faults stored but any ideas would be appreciated as the costs with this vehicle keep mounting.
  • Daewoo Matiz 2003 - EGR valve 25 Oct 2014 (Forum)
I have been advised to 'block it off' so that the warning light will not come back on again, clean it again, or fit a new one which is a bit expensive considering the age of the car. I am also told it will do no harm to carry on driving. So, why don't I just carry on running it and get it cleaned just before the next MOT? Ideas please!
  • Ford Focus 1.8 TDCi 2006 - Diesel Pump/Injectors 30 Sep 2014 (Forum)
Trying to sort a problem with my Ford Focus TDCi 1.8 2006: the engine occassionally has what I can only describe as a 'hickup' at about 1500 RPM - feels slightly like a misfire on the injectors, but as it only happens at those revs, could the fault be with the pump, rather than injectors? The other running issue is that the power from very low rev up to 1500 RPM is low... when I asked my Ford garage, they reckon that although the injectors can wear, and may need reconditioning, the pump will either work & pressure correctly, or fail - which sounds odd, as surely all mechanical components will wear!
  • 1990 500 sl, 5.0 v8 - merc 500 sl cuts out on idle/tickover 14 Aug 2014 (Forum)
my merc sl 500 cuts out on idle, drives ok, pulls well, but rev counter doesn't work so no way of telling what its doing on tickover. in traffic i have to keep shifting to neutral to keep it running. leads and plugs are good, caps and rotor arms are new. 143k on the clock. Do these have idle control valves? is there any way i can get under the bonnet and increase the tickover rate? i have to give it some revs in neutral while raising/dropping the roof. please help!
  • Hyundai i10 2014 - Handbrake holding 11 Aug 2014 (Forum)
Nice car but the handbrake won't hold enough to stop the car rolling completely on our  (estimated) 1 in 10 driveway.  I have tried getting the extra notch by pressing the foot brake home with the engine running, while pulling up the handbrake (about six notches in all),  but this is still not enough.   The car has been back to the supplier who certifies all is normal.  Does this seem normal to posters?
  • Honda Accord Tourer - Honda Accord Tourer Diesel. Pre V Post 2008? 16 Jul 2014 (Forum)
I'm wary of the complexity of modern diesels. Is the CTDI engine better that the IDTEC for running costs?
  • Ford Focus - Best used car to buy for £3-4k & sell next Feb? 3 Jul 2014 (Forum)
What would you recommend that won't lose too much over 6-7 months in depreciation, or cost too much to run? Thanks in advance for your advice!
  • Chevrolet Cruze - Happy about fuel consumption and tyres 14 Jun 2014 (Forum)

  • Any - Long Term Investment 9 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I am an old f*** so an automatic would be useful and I will look after the car. It would be well looked after and I would plan on keeping it a long time (potentially running it into the ground) so longevity and long term reliability are key factors for me. As such - something that is well engineered would be a must. Any ideas please with a budget up to £30Kish.
  • Peugeot 607 - Telematics Unit Failure 14 May 2014 (Forum)
A chap on a Peugeot forum advises that the disc should have been left in the unit with the engine running all day if necessary to reboot the system properly; the dealer's failure to do this has probably irreparably damaged the unit (which costs £2k + VAT to replace). Does anyone have any experience of this?

  • Mondeo TDCI 130 MK3 - Mondeo TDCI hesitating after fully blanking EGR 15 Apr 2014 (Forum)
I have had a blanking plate with a hole in on my EGR for the last year or so, I recently found out that the car is a euro 3 which means I can use a full blanking plate without the car showing the EML light. Last night the car was running fine until changed the blanking plate and now I have hesitation when driving/accelerating under 2500rpm, when above there is no hesitation. The car seems faster when above 2500rpm also.
  • Ford Focus 2001 Ghia 1.6 - Juddering on the motorway 13 Apr 2014 (Forum)
The journey up was fine but on the way back the car juddered a few times. No loss of power or any other symptoms. Coolant temp was fine. I had my odb adaptor running at the same time.Once I slowed down a bit to about 55-60 it was fine. I think I know what the issue is but want some more opinions.   I think its the coil pack as this may explain the rough idle.
  • Kawasaki ZX6R - Legal Ownership 5 Mar 2014 (Forum)
If i went ahead and bought this bike off him then would i be the legal owner given that he never registered it after he bought it from the dealer. And also would i be in the running for any fines regarding non-payment of mot/tax? I don't want to go ahead with the sale if i'm going to get stung by DVLA
  • Volkswagen Golf - Golf Mk7 Cooling Fan - problem? 4 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The car itself drives well with no issues and she is happy with it but I noticed the other evening that, after shutting the engine down, the cooling fan is on for what seems like a long time.  I have only noticed it once and this was after a vgery short run of less than 10 mins from cold.  Temp gauge had not even reached 90c which is the normal position for it when fully warmed up. I am just curious as I own a Passat TDi and have no such issue.
  • Nissa Micra 1998 1.0 litre - Removing Clutch Cable 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
The bracket has a large "rubber grommet" that is grooved in the centre to fit inside the mount bracket and the cable runs through the centre of the "rubber grommet". But I am unable to remove the cable and "rubber grommet" from the mount bracket. It doesn't seem to be a case of pulling the "rubber grommet" and cable out of the opening in the bracket.
