  • New year, new car 1 Jan 2018 (Forum)
My sons girlfriend is going to look for a new ( to her) car next year, atm she drives a fiat panda( 2009)which has been reasonably reliable so far, just the usual servicing although she had the cam belt etc changed this year, and apart from a few minor issues has been ok, she needs something reliable and is thinking about a Kia Picanto or Hyundai i10, although a couple of others might be in the frame, a Suzuki Celario, or Mitsubishi Mirage, her budget will be about 5k inc her px for the panda she mainly uses for short urban commutes and the odd journey a bit further afield although no long motorway trips, image is not important , what are your views on these cars, or is there anything else that would suit, .?, has to be small city car.
  • * - Visibility/Positioning of instruments 14 Sep 2017 (Forum)
In this day and age with the car work load increasing the positioning of important instruments is being ignored. With our speed now being monitored nearly everywhere it is paramount to be able to see ones speed without searching somewhere through the steering wheel, why are cars not fitted with either 'Heads up Speedo' or a small binnacle speedo at the foot of the windscreen so that speed can be seen without taking ones eyes from the Road?
  • Lexus RX300 (Harrier) - Lexus keeps going intermittently dead 25 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Hi This is my first post so hello to all. My Dad is having a a bit of trouble with his Lexus Harrier, basically imported version of the RX300. One morning all starts ok. Runs ok. Doesn't cut out at all as you would drive normally. However, when you stop it and turn off occasionally (about 1 in 3 now) & go to re-start it's all dead.
  • Vauxhall Corsa (2015) - Electric grinding noise during ignition - AUDIO 11 Jan 2016 (Forum)
As I said, the performance of the car is completely unaffected, and it seems to happen at random. I'd be grateful for any advice, as I currently have no idea whether it's important or not!

  • Help buying used car 12 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Priorities are: it's for a family of 4, 2 kids in the back so decent comfort; realiability is most important, I don't want to be going to and from the garage for repairs.   I've spoken to someone who has suggested the Hyundai i10 and Honda Jazz which I know nothing about as I don't know much about cars.
  • Motability Renewal Options 11 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The car needs to be able to comfortably carry two car seats and an adult in the back also. Urban MPG is important in the renewal decision, along with his desire to spend no more than £200 on his "advance payment" Ive come up with the following options for him. New Quasqai 1.2 Acenta Seat Leon ST 1.2 SE Seat Leon 1.4 SE Skoda Octavia 1.2 SE Bearing in mind the above... which car do you think would suit him best?
  • BMW X3 - Anyone Got Experience With a BMW X3 16 Nov 2013 (Forum)
I'm aware it depends a lot on tyres but assuming I would put winter tyres on are they useful enough in the snow? It's important I can get to work every day. I'd also be looking at x3's with pretty high mileage (90k+) due to the cost of them. I've got a VW golf TDI at the moment with loads of miles on that I know will last forever, are the X3' diesels as reliable and long lasting?
  • Sub-£2k car for 60 mile round commute 25 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Not really bothered about looks or features (can I be for under £2k?!) and fuel economy is the most important factor - something that does 40 MPG + would be ideal. Any recommendations? I was recommended an older Polo (the 1.9 TDI version) and could be tempted, but I don't have much knowledge of their reliability above the 90k mileage mark, if anyone can shed any light on it?
  • TP or not TP? that is the question.... 14 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Surely it cannot be beyond their wit to listen and find out if Radio2 and 4 have a programme at an important stage and then pick their moment? I know their stated aim is to bring traffic news every 15 minutes or so, but as already said, mostly it is not news so therefore can wait for a suitable moment.
  • fiesta 97 - Fiesta ignition key barrel (again - sorry) 29 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I have read on here the barrel is held in by a silver cap that is crimped over the barrel and this seems to be what I have, question is, how can I remove this cap without causing too much damage? Just to confuse things I live in Spain but the car is a German import. My first post so thanks for looking,   Gumski

  • LVLOs (AKA regional DVLA offices) to close in Oct 2013 - bombshell! 5 Jul 2012 (Forum)
I gather the reason was to announce to staff in all 39 offices that they will all be redundant from October 2013 as the function is being transferred to DVLA Swansea / online.   The systems for importing / registering a vehicle or transferring a cherished number are now so bureaucratic and complicated that one transaction usually needs two or three visits to the LVLO to satisfy the ever changing documentary requirements and Kafka-esqe situations that continually arise.
  • Which MPV? 29 Apr 2012 (Forum)
I need a used car or an MPV that has room in the rear for two child seats and my missus in the middle (with a bucket just in case!)  The missus is very petit so she doesn't need tonnes of room! The most important factors for me are: * Comfortable for passengers (especially those prone to car sickness) * Safe and reliable * Enough space in the back to meet my needs * Not too thrirsy/ costly to run My budget will be around £7k and at the moment I am considering the Toyota Verso, VW Golf Plus, VW Touran and the Ford S-Max.
  • Chevrolet Captiva - servicing diesel engine 18 Mar 2012 (Forum)
A very cautionary tale on the Chevrolet forum currently. as follows, lady buys car from a large national chain not a franchise, car is imported!  car bought june 2009, first serviced december 2010, first service, possibility oil not changed at service at main dealers despite this beinh a requirement of the service schedule)  next service missed, car did only 14000 miles in 2 years and 8 months, engine fails due to oil lubricity @20% only, (contamination???)
  • Sorry, very dull topic!! - Washing greasy overalls/work clothes 1 Aug 2011 (Forum)
My son has just started an apprenticeship for one of my customers who imports, tunes and develops high spec Jap sportscars (Nissan GTr's, Subaru's etc) and loves his job. The workshops are almost sterile in cleanliness terms but he somehow comes home filthy most days!
  • Renault grand scenic AUTO - Need to find someone who has a demonstrator 1 Mar 2011 (Forum)
I only have an auto licence,  and as I'm short & disabled,  I really need to test drive a vehicle, to make sure I can reach/see everything comfortably before I commit to a 3 yr lease I'm interested in the 1.5 dci auto,  but any auto will do, as driving position/internal layout are more important than engine to me at this point. I'm in the east midlands, but willing to travel a fair distance to find a car to test.  Can anyone help ?
  • Any make lada 1500ghia - rev counters 22 Feb 2010 (Forum)
I read a letter in a motoring section in a newspaper yesterday where the replier called a salesman a patronising moron for telling a customer that rev counters were a non needed accessory on modern cars and went on to explain how important they were to keep revs in a particular range to aid economy. Unfortunately in the real world of motoring this is useless advice as most people dont even know the difference between a rev counter and a speedometer until it is explained that they are doing 3000 revs not 30mph.
  • Website Moving 18 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Hi all When I have sorted what HJ wants to do with the replication servers that we currently have I will get rid of the posting buttons so you guys can't post stuff that will get lost in the transfer. There will then be a delay while we export and import data when you will be able to visit this site, but not post anything. For your info the new site has not been developed by Khoosys but is hosted as a Windows server on one of our a virtual machines.
