• Vauxhall Astra - Garage / insurance advice 16 Mar 2015 (Forum)
  The electrics malfunctioned and a loud banging noise could be heard when slowing down/applying breaks on the short journey home. The car was towed away a few days later as the battery had burnt out and without the battery being charged or replaced and the car being tested a repair estimate was submitted and approved. 4 weeks later the rear end repairs had been completed but unsurprisingly the car would not start.; a new battery was required as the battery would not charge.

  My 2002 Grand Voyager has been stood for a good few weeks over the Christmas and New Year period and i recently went start her up and take her for a drive but the battery was so flat there wasn't even a faint light on anywhere. so i removed the battery and took indoors and placed on charge for 24 hours, then fitted back onto the car, this is where the fun starts.........

  - alternator casing gets very hot soon after starting engine from cold (within 1 minute) - battery voltage is around 12.5v with ignition off, around 11.5v when engine running - car appears to drive and operate fine including air-con, power steering, etc, and battery warning light goes out after starting engine.

  The mechanic told me that moving the car short distances is not good for the car in col weather - yesterday was much warmer than on that occasion. S, two questions: Is the battery failing? Is there anything associated with the throttle body that might present a load to the main battery causing a drain? Thanks for any ideas.

  I am now looking for a replacement and one option is a nearly new CX-30 as I like the car very much. However, almost from new it has been exhibiting battery problems, specifically after cleaning it. Five or ten minutes with doors or tailgate open and it would not start again. This was not a case of the battery struggling to turn the engine, it was just totally dead.

  I definitely let the battery disconnect a number of times, not enough hands :-( NB Every time I reconnected the battery I got a small spark, is that normal?

  After a few miles the power seemed to return to normal, but when arriving at my destination the battery was totally flat. On taking the car to the garage we tested the alternator and teh battery and the alternator was broken. the battery was not holding any charge so we changed it. The car was fine, until 150 miles later when exactly teh same thing happened again.

  Hi Just looking for some advice on changing fuel filter on above car. It is in behind battery and ecu. Do you need to remove the air filter box, battery and ecu to get access. Appreciate any help. Thanks Matt

  Hi - my daughter's car has no power - central lockiing does not work, no lights on dashboard and engine will not turn over.  Tried to jump start it and nothing happened - also tried to charge the battery, but the charger says the battery is fully charged.  We obviously can't get it to a garage for a mechanic to take a look - any ideas??

  had an accident in my 2.2 petrol vectra 2000 model front end and since then my starter motor turns slow as if battery flat.. have put another battery on and still the same but when i put a booster on it turns over bit better

  THe Audi A4 SE 2001 key fob failed so I replaced the battery (CR2032) but it still did not work??? have 'adjusted the central (-ve) contacts, they mark the battery and the corner (+ve) contacts but have no way of knowing if the contacts are made. Is ther any re-coding or what to be done?

  My Toyota Starlet has got starting problem, initially I thought it was battery but I don't think its the battery. When switching on the ignition car would make a click sound and won't start up the engine, you've to do it at least 2/3 times before the engine starts up. Is it starter motor?

  Just bought Peugeot 306 xr,but the remote key does not work. Opened key up and replaced with new batteries,but still no joy. Should the led on the key remote light when button is pressed,or does it need to be programmed as new batteries fitted in remote. Also what is the function of the remote key, as the car has a keypad immobiliser.

  I put the cover back on and the now fully charged battery back in, the lights came on. I went to start it, the click noise again and the lights went dead, tried to start again no noise and lights continued to not work.  It seems the lights only work if the battery has been disconnected from the car for a while, starting it then triggers something that cuts power to the lights needing the battery to be removed to reset.

    I'm at a loss as to what the hell is going on, surely it can't have killed 3 batteries and 2 alternators?!  Help!

  This led me to believe that the immobiliser kicked in (for some reason) and so this cuts off power to the fuel pump and so no fuel getting to the engine. After unplugging battery, charging it up, removing shunt fuse and then banging the fuel tank (where fuel pump was), I finally got it up and starting. Was fine for a day or so and it's happened again. Battery is old and so think it could be battery not holding charge and this low charge causing the immobiliser to kick in and so replaced with another battery I had (which unfortunately had low charge but I know will hold charge when charged up) Am charging this second battery up overnight and then try again after work tonight.

  So, I went and had the battery tested. The "drop-test" revealed that the battery wasn't just OK; it was in a very good state of health. When the engine is running, the battery was charging at a level that the mechanic felt was good.

  Phones should not be left on a car charger for more than an hour and should be disconnected when the car is started. Failure to follow these directions will cause the phone battery to be degraded and eventualy the phone willl switch off. Also there is a risk of draining the car battery. The rechargable batteries supplied with the phones are not suitable to be used in this type of application.
