Renault Clio - Dead car! - SMS

Hi - my daughter's car has no power - central lockiing does not work, no lights on dashboard and engine will not turn over. Tried to jump start it and nothing happened - also tried to charge the battery, but the charger says the battery is fully charged. We obviously can't get it to a garage for a mechanic to take a look - any ideas??

Check earth leads and battery connections.

Check the fuses on the car, there may be some in the engine, and there may be some in the car, maybe in the glove box or under the steering wheel?

If all fuses are ok, then take off the battery connections from the + and - terminals, clean the battery terminals with a little bit of sand paper so that you can see bare metal. Clean the connectors too, then reconnect and check if that has worked....

check the earth strap from the far left sid eof the engine to the body id not loose or broken, or to test connect a jump lead from the negative terminal to an unpainted part of the body, most common cause though is the naff battery terminals renault use.

Sand Paper is a big No No. The grains of sand get embedded in the lead terminal and reduce the contact area. Use a peice of Scotchbright.

OP, do you have a meter to measure the battery voltage and other tests.
