Citroen ZX (1992 - 1998) - Recovery Service Disaster 12 Aug 2008 (Forum)
She is only the 3rd owner (my Mum and my wife being numbers 1 & 2), it is in immaculate condition (or was until the recovery service got their hands on it!), was economical, cheap to run, etc., and all she wanted was the water leak to be fixed so she could carry on getting to and from work, etc! Letters have been going to and fro for 2 months, and she wants to threaten legal action (would have doen sooner IMHO). -
Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - 94 1.3 HCS CFI Idle Problems - Overrevving/Underre 4 Aug 2008 (Forum)
When I first got the car about 6 months ago displayed both issues usually at least once or twice every trip, but then after a few long motorway runs seemed to go away until I changed my oil and set the tappets. Again problem went away until last week when i replaced the oil pressure sensor. Both times i'd removed the air filter and had a poke around so i'm thinking this is due to me disturbing some dodgy sensors or wiring?? -
New car for Mother-in-Law 14 May 2008 (Forum)
* Fairly new Daihatsu Sirion - based on the Yaris so should be pretty reliable, but would have to settle for slightly older model * Honda Jazz - she's said she likes them, and I know they've got a reputation for being reliable, but obviously on this budget she'd be looking at a much older car so potential for higher running costs? What would you do? Any I've missed that you think would be better? Cheers Felix -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1999 1.3l - will i ever have music again!! 29 Mar 2008 (Forum)

Ford Escort (1993 - 2000) - 1998 TD - Can a ECU be decoded from VIN. 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I know the potentiometer on the throttle arm controls vacuum for the egr also because I tested this myself and all works fine there, I have infact disabled the egr now which helped my poor mpg a bit. I'm determined to sort this myself (with a little help of course) as other than this running issue the car's fine. Also would you know the resistance values for all the related sensors i.e. needle lift, crank position sensor e.t.c. I'm sure there's a sensor somewhere that is not providing the advance solenoid with the info it needs to provide the extra fuel it needs when on boost. -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2003 330Ci - BMW Diagnostic Kits for Laptop 8 Feb 2008 (Forum)
As far as I can understand the Carsoft kit is specific for BMW cars and the ELM327 kit is more generic to most cars (Ford/Vauxhaul/Japanese) Can any one tell me, Which one is best to buy that will check all or majority of the functionality on my car like, engine,ABS,Air Bag, brakes, electrics etc etc and also be able to reset all the fault codes/lights? Also will any of these kits be compatible with my laptop running on Windows Vista? Thanking you all in advance for replies :-) -
Help please! Before I'm priced off the road... 3 Jan 2008 (Forum)
We have a budget of around £6000 if pushed and are looking for a replacement vehicle for our current car. As a family we drive about 8,000 miles a year, most of which is engaged in the school run. We holiday in the UK so it would be nice if the new (to us) vehicle has the capability to carry two adults, two children (aged 11yrs and 8yrs), one Labrador and all luggage for a journey of several hundred miles each way if necessary. -
Ford Fiesta (1989 - 1995) - mk3 1.1i - MOT advisory on brake efficiency 20 Dec 2007 (Forum)
The brakes have never been the greatest (standard fiesta behaviour) but recently I have been noticing that the braking is a little variable: sometimes when I press the pedal it feels a little soft and the braking is not as good as it should be (but adequate for normal stopping), releasing the pedal and reapplying normally gives a better result. There's also a bit of juddering when braking hard (although this could just be a bit of run-out on the discs as they're not vented and have a tendency to warp). Searching through the back-room posts I'm coming to the conclusion that the master cylinder could be at fault, especially as I didn't see the advice not to fully depress the pedal whilst bleeding the brakes (which I did when I replaced the flexible hoses) so I may have damaged the seals. -
Citroen Xsara Picasso (2000 - 2010) - Insurance Scam? 17 Dec 2007 (Forum)
My mate has been told by his insurance company that they have received details of a claim against him for a hit and run incident that happened in November. My mate was no where near the area where the incident supposedly took place and his insurance company have told him that as the claimant has provided an independent witness, they will payout unless my mate can produce an independent witness to say where the car was at the time of the accident. -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 2000 2.5 v6 - Won't start 11 Dec 2007 (Forum)
She has a recent replacement coil pack and brand new HT leads, none of which made any difference to the running, which, even when she does start, is less than perfect. She often seems to hesitate and often the power delivery will become weak, sometimes in mid-acceleration the get up and go will appear to have gotten up and gone! -
Suzuki Vitara SWB (1988 - 1997) - What should i do with it? 27 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Was given to me by my brother 6 months ago when he traded up to a brand new Vitara and i needed a second car desperatly. It has FSH half of which Suzuki then independents. Every receipt is there. It's mot runs out 06/01/08 and tax end of 2007. No advisory's were issued on it's last mot. Condition is poor by normal standards, superficial rust almost every where, sills/Arches and at least one nasty blister. -
Competitive insurance for the over 75s 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
t many toddlers around waiting to test my aged reflexes by chasing balls into the street. All I use my car for is trips to the shops and running errands for my church friends. I go to the doctor every three years and she passes me fit to drive. I retook my driving test five years ago and I passed easily. So why then does my current insurer send me a renewal every year that is about 10% greater than the year previously? -
Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 02 Clio Locking/Unlocking & Starting problem 9 Nov 2007 (Forum)
In past few weeks have experienced intermittent inability to either: a) lock the car with remote fob; taking up to 10 attempts of turning car on/off/pressing fob b) start car - turn key in ignition all dash lights/stereo etc switch on but engine does nothing. Usually by fourth attempt the car switches on and runs with no problems. Last night car would not start (as b) on 2nd attempt engine turned over (not sluggish) but cut out after 3secs. Infinite number of attempts unsuccessful - RAC called! Mechanic rang me back (did not visit me at roadside - never saw the car) and asked if immobiliser light on dash was flashing faster than usual (which it was) then suggested that I hold key with one end in each hand and flex each way as though trying to snap it in two then try to start car - IT STARTED 1ST TIME!!! -
PT Cruise replacement 22 Sep 2007 (Forum)
2m (min. 1.8m) load bay length as he sometimes sleeps in the car. ? Something similar in size to the PT Cruiser. ? Petrol, it must run on petrol. No diesels? He does not want another PT Cruiser as this one has been awful in terms of reliability; he is £3000 down over and above normal servicing and consumables on it. He does not want a 4x4 either. -
Volkswagen Polo III (1994 - 1999) - Loss of coolant at rapid pace 14 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Guess now Im finding out that I have been ripped off, exactly a day after my months warranty has run out. Took a ten minute trip not going any more than 40mph and noticed that the car seemed to be over heating (no lights came on just noticed dial was reading hotter than usual). When i had a look i couldnt see coolant level clearly but could hear a slight hissing noise. -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 96 TD Central Locking Problem 4 Sep 2007 (Forum)
After a while the relays begin to click again, flashing the lights, but not operating the solenoid. I have checked all the locks operate freely, and have checked the wiring that runs through all of the doors, but there are no faults and shorts. I have checked the system has a good earth, with no corrosion. I have also checked the wiring at the control unit, and haven't found any faults. -
Come back on car seller 29 Aug 2007 (Forum)
I have kept on with it always thinking the next lot of repairs will turn it into being a reasonable car. The main problems left are persistent poor running and it losing oil. I also suspect the provenance of some parts that were replaced weren't as they were described either. Unfortunately I know the seller reasonably well and have to work with them via a owners club. -
Evidence of care towards future owners? 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
.* Examples of the opposite. 1) The guy who beats the daylights out of it as its going in for PX next week. 2) For a while i`ve been unable to grasp why someone ( other forums) would buy a new common rail diesel and then try to run it on cooking oil, with varying degrees of processing. Then I understood it, the lowest common denominator at work. Young guys, usually still teenagers with a popular `in` car wanting the prestige of new, car bought by parents, or flush with money due to no commitments. -
Waiting lists for cars... 11 Jul 2007 (Forum)
Each time they launch a new model the other volume makers eg Ford/Vauxhall talk about "only building to customer order" and not flooding the market with cars to keep the factories running. Yet that seems to be what they end up doing.... What common vehicles are currently with a waiting list/only build to order? Is it many? Have more makers managed to keep to build to order and still get the whole thing to work without getting wild swings in demand...? -
Golf GTi MkV 26 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The car's computer is rather confusing, again compared to the set up on the old shape 3 series and I honestly prefer the iDrive. Not come anywhere near thrashing it yet but there is a nice gruffy exhaust, otherwise runs silently. SWMBO will have to force the keys from me, I do like it though.
