ford mondeo 2002 tdci - mondeo 2002 tdci cuts out 30 Jun 2012 (Forum)
When the rac arrived he couldnt get any fault codes to come up and I explained what happened and there was NO warning lights what so ever. He towed me to my local mechanic and it was left overnight. The next morning the mechanic started the car first time and took it for a test drive and found no fault until he returned when it was running a little lumpy. -
KIA Sorento SUV (2003 - 2009) - Kia Sorento Manual Gearbox Failure at 60k miles 21 Feb 2011 (Forum)
I don't feel that it is reasonable to have to replace a gearbox on a five-year old, 60,000 mile, Kia serviced car. Although it does get used for towing, it doesn't do a big mileage pulling the 'van and it's not a big 'van for the size of car. I feel that at the very least, Kia should stump up for a fair chunk of the bill. What do others feel? Can't remember when, but sometime after 2004, Kia increased the warranty on the Sorento to 5 years (and 7 years on some of their other vehicles), so they clearly have some faith in the their mechanical reliability. -
Ford Excursion - Any advice re: buying an American SUV 2 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Also, if we were to break down in Europe, would a Ford garage be able to get the information they need to repair our vehicle or are we likely to be stuck abroad with 'computer says no' attitude from service staff? We need a new (to us) tow vehicle as our 21yr-old V8 Defender is starting to show her age. We pull a twin-axle caravan MTPLM 1750Kgs around the UK but would like to travel further afield, Scandinavia and Spain being two areas of interest. -
SAAB 9-5 (1997 - 2009) - Blown turbo woes 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Clouds of smoke and almost complete loss of power. Luckily this happens near a lay-by so she can pull off the road. Calls AA. They are brilliant. Tow her to Buxton. Help fill the car with flat contents, tow her to Leicester and truck the car back to London. Thanks guys. AA come back next day and take the car to dealers. New turbo, new catalytic converter total cost £2500.00. -
Buying Hawkeye's new car 3 Oct 2004 (Forum)
What may interest you is a sketch of the buying process. My starting point was wanting an MPV with more than 5 seats, heavy enought to tow our caravan and having an 8-year old Citroen Synergie and a 3-year old Mercedes c180 to part-ex and about £4K in cash. Reactions from dealers of other makes ranged from incredulity that I should be so difficult to deal with as to have 2 vehicles to part-ex, to complete indifference. -
Renault Clio - TPW Not Available error message with new tyre 28 Apr 2024 (Forum)
Hi there, I just had the misfortune of blowing a tyre on a pot hole at 2am. RAC quoted up to 4 hours just to tow me home, so after the tyre repair kit failed, I got a 24 hour mobile tyre replacement service out. After replacement the tyre pressure warning wouldn’t go away, and eventually on the way home this changed to “TPW NOT AVAILABLE”. -
Volvo C30 - Pat (Eolys) Fluid 10 Apr 2023 (Forum)
Been advised it’s all sorts of issues from injectors to sensors to the DPF itself I have been given what I think is some plain sound advice from my local garage. I had an engine system warning light come on and then the car died while out driving. I towed it to the local garage where they investigated and showed me what they believe to be the issue. The diesel they removed from the car was a deep yellow/orange, so they think that the Pat fluid is not mixing into the diesel correctly, made worse by a small amount of fuel in the tank. -
Ship carrying Porche's & VW's on fire in Atlantic. 20 Feb 2022 (Forum)
"BERLIN/LISBON, Feb 18 (Reuters) – A ship carrying around 4,000 vehicles, including Porsches, Audis and Bentleys, that caught fire near the coast of the Azores will be towed to another European country or the Bahamas, the captain of the nearest port told Reuters on Friday. Lithium-ion batteries in the electric cars on board the vehicle carrier Felicity Ace have caught fire and the blaze requires specialist equipment to extinguish, captain Joao Mendes Cabecas of the port of Hortas said. -
Citroen C4 Grand Picasso - What to do about car broken down/now restarting? 17 Nov 2020 (Forum)
I called the RAC who first thought it was a fuel problem, then the on-board computer, couldn't fix it so we had to get a tow truck. Finally, when the car was delivered onto our street on Saturday night, it started as normal and didnt' cut out, and it's done the same this morning (though I've not tried driving it anywhwere). -

Ford Focus 2011 - Towbar- missing 17 Feb 2018 (Forum)
Recently purchased my focus second hand from my local car dealer, upon checking through the paper work at home I discovered that a tow bar has been fitted which was a bonus as I planned to put one on anyway- however I've been unable to find the detachable swan neck bar which should have been there. Phoned the dealer who were unaware that it had one, but would try and trace the towbar through the previous owner, but to no avail. -
Pick Up Insurance - commercial vehicle?? 10 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Friend of mine who does a lot of scramble bike reading recently swapped his 2 year old VW Alahambra with trailer for Nissan 4x4 pick up to allow him to access some of the more inaccessible places he and the bikes go rather than scrape the sump, get towed out of a mess etc. in the VW. So one phone call to insurance company later "sorry sir this is a commercial vehicle we don't insure them". He was paying about £400 fully comp for the VW , he's rang around a few companies who state the same - "commercial vehicle sir" and are saying approx double that amount. -
Jaguar XFR 2011 - Jag XFR Needs New Fuel Injector(s) Post Re-Fuel 11 Oct 2016 (Forum)
the engine warning light came on, power was lost and it started blowing out smoke and smelling. It was towed to our local (Hampshire) dealer yesterday. Today we learn that it needs at least one new injector (£1014 all in), possibly 2 or 3 (up to £1800). We have a named components warranty, but injectors are not included. -
02 plate Ford Focus 1.8TDCI - Ford Focus TDCI Starting problem 14 Jul 2016 (Forum)
After about 20 mins the engine restarted and I managed to get off at the next junction before the same thing happened again. The AA came out and towed me home stating it was probably the fuel pump or injectors. The next morning I managed to drive the car to my brothers house and once again the engine died. It now won't start at all. Does anyone have any ideas what the fault is likely to be. -
Nissan Pathfinder 2.5DCI 171 Sport 2009 - Clutch or DMF problems 5 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I purchased my 2.5dci 171 Pathfinder Sport in March 2015 from a local dealer. 6 months later the clutch went, the vehicle did have a tow bar so I put it down to bad luck, the garage would not pay towards the replacement and were in no way apologetic. They told me I must have a new clutch and dual mass flywheel fitted as you should not do one without the other. -
Peugeot 1.9D 1997 non turbo no abs manual gbox - peugeot 1.9D engine fail 2 Nov 2015 (Forum)
This feels like a write-off but it is beyond my experience... i generally get my old cars through the MOTs but only go as far as welding/ suspention/ brakes, that kind of stuff... If anyone can give a hint as to where to start looking or if I should just tow it to the scrappa!! cheers, D. -
VW Golf mark VI 1.6TDI - Lost engine power on motorway! 29 Jun 2015 (Forum)
Had to limp into the hard shoulder using whatever speed was left - and call the breakdown services. The car would not re-start. Fuel tank still 2/3 full. Got a tow home. Tomorrow, when the garages open, I will have to take it in. But what could have caused all this ? The car is from October 2009, and has just 59K miles on the clock - mainly motorway driving. This is the first serious fault I have ever experienced with it. -
