  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0 diesel - fuel timing question 15 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I was about to check the piston/valve clearances on a dry build when something occurred to me. The crankshaft has a position sensor but I can't see one for the camshaft. How does the ecu know that it should be injecting at the end of a compression stroke TDC for a particular cylinder rather than the exhaust/inlet TDC? Sorry if this is a bit long winded but how do I know it will not be 1 crank turn out of sequence?
  • Toyota RAV-4 (1994 - 2000) - 94 2.0 Immobiliser removal and loss of ignition 9 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have removed the 918T ECU unit from my Rav 4.First I could not run the starter motor until I was told to connect together the leads going to Pins 14 & 15 on the 15 pin socket. Others may be interested in this as it took me a while to find this out.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 2.0 hdi very very poor mpg 7 Mar 2009 (Forum)
Iv'e checked for leaks and there arnt any. The other day i had it diagnosed by an electrician with a modis first it showed ecu error he then cleared it and told me that the egr is not working shows no othr fault codes apart from a break in the glow plug circuit which is strange as it starts fine. I have had the fuel rail changed a couple of months ago as it developed a leak other than this no other parts or sensors have been changed.
  • Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 03 2.0 Coolant sensor question 28 Nov 2008 (Forum)
So my question is this, why is this fault showing if the temperature gauge on the dash seemingly works OK, are there different sensors for the gauge and the ECU? The only sensor I'm aware of is the one on the side of the head below the intake butterfly. I'd take it in to be looked at but money's tight at the moment. Thanks in anticipation. Steve.
  • Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 04 1.9 egr related fault causing mil light to come 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I had the egr valve removed and it was cleaned as the valve plunger area was coked up, valve was put back on and fault code removed from ecu. however it has come back on again with the same fault. any ideas?? its a lovely car but this blooming engine light is annoying me, i want it to go away on a more permanent basis, to put it nicely.
  • Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 02 1.1 Power loss - air leak 17 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have a 206 1.1L, which keeps cutting. Have had the lambda sensor changed, ignition coil changed. The ECU keeps coming up with ignition coil problems, but new one isn't faulty. The garage said it was a small air leak, too small to find therefore, too small to fix! However, car continues to cut. Before I take it to Peugeot again and leave it there, does anyone have any thoughts on what/where the problem lies?
  • Volvo S40/V40 (1996 - 2004) - 98 2.0 T Climate Control Fault 15 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The cabin cooling fan doesn't work and the LEDs on the AC button flash - the user manual says this indicates a fault with the climate control system. Does anyone know where the climate control ECU is and if there are any common problems associated with the climate control system on these models? The Haynes manual doesn't cover this in much detail. The car isn't worth much so I'm trying to avoid having the DTCs read.

  • Vauxhall - Vivaro 2003 2.5 DTI Speedo 1 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The chap i bought it off hand alot of work done on it before he sold it and the garage sed that it was a faulty sensor, but why they didnt change it then i dont know. I took it to my local garage and they reckoned it was sumthing to do with the ECU, so they just said to take it to Vauxhall. Does anybody know what the problem might be? Thanx Biggsey!
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 99 1.6 MIL light on and engine jerks 1 Jul 2008 (Forum)
My '99 Peugeot ,modell XTB 1.6 , has the MIL (motor indicator light) turned on, when brought garage ,the ECU code indicated a flywheel sensor (crankshaft sensor ?) problem, after clearing code , code did not appear again, and all was ok for some weeks. Then the MIL light was lit again, then disappered, later the same evening.
  • Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 130 tdci - flat spots 1 Jul 2008 (Forum)
I have 52 plate 130 bhp tdci with 28,000 miles on the clock.i first took my car back to the dealer when the car had only a couple of thousand miles on the clock. at around 1,800 rpm in top gear the car would judder (missing)this happened infrequently. The dealer remapped the ecu and checked the fuel filter.Itook the car back on three occasions but basically nothing happened. Now two years on the problem has only got worse.still at the same rev range but more frequent and also in other gears.Has anyone had the same problem and had any success in resolving it
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W210 (1995 - 2002) - '00 E430 Automatic Gearbox Won't Respond 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
In either case, pulling over, switching off and restarting the engine cures the problem for a while. My instinct is ECU - especially since restarting fixes it. Any suggestions? Thanks drawde
  • Audi A8 (1994 - 2003) - 01 2.8ltr petrol (APR) will not start 15 Mar 2008 (Forum)
My A8 always starts from cold and from hot, but sometimes will not re start if it's only been running for a few miles and it's really trying my patience. Had to abandon it today and let it go cold, thereafter started easily. Is there an ECU upgrade or fix or maybe something like a dodgy sensor that I should replace. The car is a dream to drive, but if I can't rely upon it, then its going to have to go! Any help, thoughts, ideas or indeed experiences would be great Engine details edited in
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - Engine problems after swapping a 1.25 to a 1.4 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Upon attempting to start the engine the engine is cranking but wont fire. It appears to want to fire but there is something stopping it. I have had a diagnosis on the ECU where a problem with the crankshaft sensor was discovered, which in due course was replaced. The car (according to a second diagnosis) is electronically sound yet it will still only crank and not fire.
  • BMW 1 Series E81/E87 (2004 - ) - Automotive Diagnostic Tools 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Virtually all modern cars require these infernal ECUs' to be interogated using a diagnostic tool when the MIL illuminates on the dashboard. My questions are: what is the difference, if any, between a 'code reader' and a 'diagnostic tool'? I have read that in 2001, due to legislation in the USA aimed at reducing emissions, all codes had to be standardized, is this so?
  • FIAT Panda 4x4 (2005 - ) - 1.2 petrol, Rough running in freezing weather 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I've posted on the Fiat Forum and the best explanation there is that it's due to a mapping fault on the ECU,a design fault and not remediable. Has anyone else experience of this on what is, after all, a very common engine in the Fiat range? I don't really need a cure, just interested in the cause, that's all.

  • Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - HDi 110 - power loss at motorway speeds 19 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The engine does not stop when this happens but there is no real power and the car loses speed. Has anyone else experienced this? Is a diagnosis of the ECU error messages likely to help? There seems to be some read across to other people's experience with the engine giong to limp mode. Any thoughts or advice will be very welcome.
  • Corsa key barrel and codes 9 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Vauxhall wants a fortune to recode a new key and need it at garage which is difficult since it wont drive. We live 30 miles from nearest. Is it the ecu cutting off the fuel ? does it even have one . I wouldn't know if its fuel injection or carb. any ideas please ? my son is a student and we live miles from anywhere and a car is essential. any help much appreciated.
  • Nissan Primera Lambda Sensor 3 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Is it likely that I'm right in thinking the lambda sensor may be shorting out, sending back a dodgy signal to the ECU, and putting the orange light on? All answers gratefully received....
