  The news comes after the auction house smashed the record for the most expensive car sold at auction with another Ferrari from the same collection. The 1957 Ferrari 335 S Scaglietti, which sold for £25m, was sold at this year’s Retromobie auction in Paris. Chassis number 0816, was the last Ferrari to win the gruelling 24-hour race, doing so in 1964.

  Finally, here was a version of the TR7 that stayed true to Triumph’s tradition of sporty open-top two-seaters. Unfortunately, however, the Convertible was launched late in the TR7’s career, and by autumn 1981 the range was being discontinued, following other sportsters like the MG Midget and MGB into BL’s back catalogue. The TR7 Convertible was a rather rakish design, leading British Leyland to launch this classic advert with a rocket theme, right at the end of the model’s life.

  .  Back in 1964, when this brochure was issued, BMC had to perform a balancing act, highlighting the MG 1100’s advanced features like front-wheel drive, whilst also stressing its credentials as a proper MG: ‘The MG1100 utilises the most advanced engineering technique to pack high performance, comfort, safety and spaciousness into a stylish car of compact dimensions,’ it said.

The hammer fell on a 1973 Porsche 911 S Targa (part of the Henry Pearman collated ‘Stradale’ Collection) at £195,500. That’s more than £80,000 above its bottom estimate. And a 1954 Bentley R-Type Continental Fastback, which won ‘Most Elegant Design’ at last year’s concours, sold for £1m.

In terms of market trends, what's most interesting is that some numbers, such as 98 M, made almost double what other similar numbers had sold for just two or three years ago.

  There's a variety of cars with famous owners including an ex-Roger Daltrey 1981 Mercedes-Benz 280SL (above), estimated at between £12,000 to £15,000, a 1965 Jaguar E-type Series I (below) that was first owned by Charlie Drake, estimated at between £40,000 to £45,000; and a 1989 Jaguar XJ-S, estimated at between £6,000 to £8,000, previously owned by Chris Evans no less and now owned by his colleague Vassos Alexander. There’s also the opportunity to take part in the action with live on-line bidding or by placing a commission bid with Silverstone Auctions before the event.

  It will feature two races for 1960-'65 saloons and will feature classics such as the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Mini Cooper S and Lotus Cortina. A whole host of famous faces are set to race door handle-to-door handle in these 1960s tin tops, including Touring Car legend Steve Soper, who will be returning to do battle at the Revival this year for the first time in 12 years.

Each car then comes with free Honda servicing for three years, plus the road tax is already paid for the period.
