  • Erik Carlsson: 1929 - 2015 28 May 2015 (News)
It was Carlsson’s style of driving as much as his many successes for which he’ll be best remembered, having perfected the art of left-foot braking – largely as a result of his Saab’s lack of power. By keeping his right foot firmly planted to the floor and the Saab’s three-cylinder engine on full power, he’d brake with his left foot to control the car and keep it firmly planted in the bends.
  • Warranty Direct creates ‘monstrosity’ from UK’s least reliable cars 29 Oct 2014 (News)
.” Pictured above, the ‘40RR0R‘ has the engine from a 2004-2011 BMW M5, the axle and suspension from an 2002-2011 Audi RS6, the gearbox from a Jeep Grand Cherokee, the electrics from a Mercedes-Benz R-Class, the brakes from a 99-2005 Fiat Multipla, the steering from a Chrysler 300C and the air conditioning from a SEAT Alhambra. The Reliability Index calculates the trustworthiness of vehicles by measuring average cost of repair, frequency of failure, age and mileage.

  • VIDEO: TyreSafe explains aquaplaning 15 Oct 2014 (News)
“Our latest movie illustrates perfectly why it’s so important to regularly check your tyre tread depth at this time of year,” comments Stuart Jackson, chairman, TyreSafe. “Not only are braking, cornering and acceleration all affected by low tread depth, but in heavy rain, there’s a real risk of aquaplaning which could cause you to lose control of your vehicle, placing yourself, your passengers and other road users at an increased risk of being involved in an accident.”
  • MoT Data for York 6 May 2014 (News)
York is a fairly average performer when it comes to MoT pass rates, although some key areas - namely suspension and brakes - have higher failure rates in YO areas than they do on average elsewhere in the UK. The pass rate by year of registration table has a lot of red numbers in it indicating performance below the national average.
  • MoT Data for Worcester 6 May 2014 (News)
Most of the numbers in the tables below are green, with failures on the usual problem areas of lighting, suspension and brakes lower than the national average. Owners of exotic Aston Martin models are 61% more likely than average to pass their MOT in Worcester postcode areas versus Aston owners in the average UK town, while Porsche and Lexus do well too.
  • MoT Data for Walsall 6 May 2014 (News)
Walsall’s table is filled with a lot of red numbers and the overall pass rate of 58%, while not too bad, isn’t great. The usual problem areas of lighting, suspension and brakes have the highest MOT failure rates in Walsall and each has a relative rate above the national average. Porsche models have the highest pass rates, followed by Lexus and Triumph. The best maker with more than 1000 models tested is Toyota.
  • MoT Data for Stoke-on-Trent 6 May 2014 (News)
Most of the numbers are red, which indicates below average pass rates more or less across the board. Some areas perform significantly below the national average, including suspension and brakes. The best performing maker is Lexus, followed by Porshe, Triumph and Smart. Triumph hasn't been producing cars since 1984, which means the majority of those left are classics and treated as second cars, which could explain its high pass rate.
  • Mot Data for Nottingham 6 May 2014 (News)
The tables below feature a mixure of red and green numbers but most deviate very little from the national average rate.  That said, the failure rates for suspension and brakes are around 20% higher than average in NG postcode areas compared with the national average. The best performing makers are Bentley, Porsche and Lexus - which isn't unusual. It's the same story at the bottom of the table with Rover, Renault and Daewoo.
  • MoT Data for Newcastle Upon Tyne 6 May 2014 (News)
There are a couple of things that stand out, though. The failure rates for brakes and for steering are quite a lot higher than the national average, though it’s only possible to speculate why. The best performing makers are Bentley, TVR and Lotus, with fourth place Porsche the best maker with more than 1000 models tested.
  • MoT Data for Kilmarnock 6 May 2014 (News)
Kilmarnock, like most Scottish areas, has a below average pass rate. Steering, suspension and brake related problems are significantly higher in KA postcodes than the national average, while most registration years and manufacturers do worse than they tend to in other parts of the UK. Subaru and Audi models have slightly above average pass rates in Kilmarnock than they are in the average UK area, but almost every make of vehicle has a higher failure rate.
  • MoT Data for Harrow 6 May 2014 (News)
Harrow has an average pass rate of 62%. Failure rates for lighting and signalling are higher than they are elsewhere, but suspension and brake related problems are less common – possibly because Harrow is built up and well served by public transport, so cars aren't generally used as much.  Interestingly more modern cars have below average pass rates, whereas older models have above average pass rates.
  • MoT Data for Dundee 6 May 2014 (News)
The DD postcode covers a huge area of Scotland, where tight, potholed rural roads take their toll on suspension and other wear items - the rate of failures related to brakes in DD postcodes is 107 per cent higher than the national average. This is partly down to conditions, but it's also worth remembering that people who live in rural areas have to drive further to reach amenties, meaning higher annual mileages and more wear and tear.
  • MoT Data for Cleveland 6 May 2014 (News)
The tables below feature a lot of red relative rate numbers, showing performance below the national average, specifically for suspension, brakes, steering and boywork. Porsche   is at the top of the table for manufacturer pass rates, failing on average just 19.7% of the time, with Triumph, Lexus and Jaguar   close behind.

  • VIDEO: Driver given suspended prison sentence after dangerous driving caught on dash cam 5 Mar 2018 (News)
"The footage clearly showed that Schofield deliberately undertook the tipper truck, then for no apparent reason deliberately pulled out into the path of the vehicle and intentionally slammed on his brakes. "Thankfully the driver of the truck was able to stop his vehicle in time and did not collide with Schofield’s car. However, I have no doubt that had it not been for the drivers quick-thinking actions, there could have been a serious collision, and the lives of innocent motorists could have been put at risk."
