Audi A4 B6 (2001 - 2005) - 01 2.0 Heater and temp gauge problems 19 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I have tried the heater unit in different mods ie AC, Econ, recirculate etc all set with temp on High and the heater motor set at about 50%, the problem is still there. The car runs perfectly well and the only thing missing from the system is the pollen filter which the garage removed because it was goosed, haven't got round to getting a new one, but can't see this being the problem. -
Alpine pass experience 9 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Just got back from a tour of France in our MK7 Transit Motorhome during which we drove over the highest pass in Europe at Resterfond (9200 feet). Some observations of this run were that, firstly the change in pressure from start, at about 3000 feet to the top meant that the gas turned on with a huge ?whoosh? when we made coffee. This calmed down when the gas regulator sorted itself out. -
A prang, what now? How to get money? 8 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My 1999 T Vectra hatch manual petrol 1.8 in near pristine condition with 60k on clock and a brand new MOT was run into from behind at low speed whilst queueing to turn right at traffic lights on Saturday morning. Damage amounts to a bust rear bumper bar. The driver has accepted liability, and his insurance company have contacted me to arrange repairs. -
mind boggling depreciation 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I'm currently running around in a courtesy car at the moment on behalf of my wife's car, which is in for a repair (different thread, which if i'm honest was long and weary, but my excuse is I was pink fluffy diced off at the time). -
Rover 200 (1995 - 1999) - 95 1.4 Starting problems - not another new battery 4 Dec 2008 (Forum)
A new battery was fitted 10 months ago. It was soon after left standing for about 4 months but was started and run for 5 minutes every month or so. Then it entered daily use and was fine for about 3 months. A few weeks ago, the starter hardly turned - diagnosed to a slack drive belt and fixed, but only after an interim period of about 3 weeks when the car was started with a booster pack. -
Jaguar X-Type Estate (2004 - 2007) - 2005 2.0ltr Query when starting from cold 23 Nov 2008 (Forum)
So I tried a new quality battery no issues all week, it was cold last night 1 degree so gave it a try this afternoon and the same thing happened position III for starting nothing turned back to position I then back to III held there for 2/3 seconds fired straight up, after letting it run for no more than a minute or so turned it off and tried again, this time started in the usual manner. Have read the user manual but there is just the normal info on starting / cold starting though it does state " when in extremely cold conditions several attempts may be needed to crank the engine" -
From 6 cylinders to seven seats 18 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I'll probably be buying new and probably in the new year but it has to have seven seats because I'm sick to death of taking car seats out to drive adults around and putting them back to do the school run. It's starting to affect my back. I'm hoping to leave the child seats in the smaller back row on a permanent basis. I'm going to look at the Toyota Verso after catching one of their ads. Does anyone know anything about the Toyota MMT manual/auto sequential gearbox thing? -
Vauxhall Zafira A (1999 - 2005) - 05 2.0 dti - car/spanner light & temperature gauge 5 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Hi, i bought this Zafira 2ltr dti on 13/10/2008, from a main car dealer, on the day i was collecting it,i noticed a warning light on the dash, the one with the car, with a spanner ,but after a few minutes it went out,on day 2 of having the car, again i noticed the warning light, and also the water temp gauge not working,i contacted the dealer, and they told me to bring the car over to them, the car was then sent to Vauxhall,as they could find no faults, Vauxhall put 4 new glow plugs in the car, no more warning light, but now the car revs up,when i slow down, and will run on its own,(NO FOOT ON PEDAL),also temp gauge still not working, unless i drive about 30 miles,i have again contacted the dealer, but they told me the car,is out of there 2 week warrenty, they also say, that they want me to bring it to them today 4/11/2008, were again it will go to Vauxhall,i contacted Vauxhall myself, and told them, the car was driving ok,before they put the glow plugs in,but there reply, was that its not the glow plugs, and they need to check it,i really dont know what to do,i feel as if,ive been done,i still am waiting on the dealer giving me the log book, for the car,and even the tax is up, is there anything i can do Thank you {subject header amended to include a brief description of problem} -
Nissan Micra (1983 - 1992) - 95 1.0 help air flow meter fix gone wrong 29 Oct 2008 (Forum)
ive desided to work along the lines that its because of someting ive done first. does the plate that covers the sensor need to be totally air tight as not to allow ne to bepass the meter cos i couldnt be sure it was when replaced but didnt make ne differnce when engine run with plate off completely? my friend did the soldering cos i cant see the contacts well enough could they be dameged now cos my friend was not finding it easy to melt the solder? they are the two only things that i think could of gone wrong cos was very little striping, plugs, air hose and air box mounted correctly. there was a smell of unburned fuel and looked down the top of the tb and looked very wet now missfire very badly under ne load sum times dies and idle is a mess. am thinking if plate doesnt need to be air tight tb gonna, many thanks mike -
Vauxhall Vectra C (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.8 Cold Car! 28 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I didn't think too much of it (thought it was better to be too cold than too hot!) and carried on. Saturday morning, I was on my way to work and thought I'd test it. Had a clear run all the way to work at high speed and no change. So I sat in the car for a few minutes and the gauge did get to just under normal operating temperature. What gives? My first thought was dodgy gauge (I shan't be fixing it if it is) but the fact that it does move to normal operating temp if coerced, well that's thrown me. -
Rover 75 (1999 - 2005) - 00 1.8 Remanufactured engines -WARNING 9 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Coolant loss started again. It got to half a cup to a cup a day by the end of September and I saw coolant running down the side of the block from the head. I contacted the suppliers and, at their request, arranged return of the head to their warranty people. The suppliers appear to act as agents and have no workshop facilities, so work was carried was out by a local engineer. -
Mitsubishi Lancer (2008 - ) - New Mitsubishi Lancer - Why poor fuel economy? 18 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Now I drive a diesel car because I have to. I do alot of miles and there is no way I could afford to run a petrol car. I could not believe my luck when I found out that the Lancer is now available with a VW 2.0 TDi engine (I have the Skoda Octavia 2.0 TDi right now) Price wise it compares favourably with a Skoda Octavia. -
Looked at Focus /Astra now thinking Mondeo/Vectra 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)

Car security when parked in isolated places 14 Sep 2008 (Forum)
You can put stickers in your windcreen to say there is nothing within - but will they believe you? You could perhaps deliberately run an old car that looks less eye-catching - or does a new car appear more secure (better locks/alarm?) What does a police "covert capture car" look like? Does it have privacy glass, does it have a real or dummy camera visible within (or not visible within?) -
Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 93 1.9 head gasket 1 Sep 2008 (Forum)
I think the head gasket is going as it loses coolant with no obvious leaks and also pressurises the cooling system - fluid sometimes pours out under pressure AFTER the engine has cooled when I remove the radiator cap. The oil and coolant are both clean and I have just done a 330 mile round trip running like a bird. Engine temperature is fine but it was problematical before until I fitted a new thermostat (the old one didn't have a bleed hole in it so I could not bleed it properly). I expect overheating did the damage. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 1999 1.8 Missing whilst revving 28 Aug 2008 (Forum)
I tried my neighbours egr valve and the problems still there, and when i disconnect the maf with the engine running, it dies down almost cutting out, so it must be working? I've checked and cleaned as many breather/air pipes as i can, stripped and cleaned the throttle body all to no joy. I've checked the plugs which are coverd in black soot/carbon, which i thought meant a lean mixture? -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 2001 2.0 hdi cooling system management problems 22 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi all Had this car mot ed last week as earlier announced and sure enough got problems now first one got bill for £257 rear brake pads and discs to fix handbrake which now does not hold the car on a slope failed also on wrong colour rear repeaters which has not been mentioned in previous three tests with same bulbs, they had to be orange also high emmisions for turbo deisel engine corrected by new fuel filter and engine flush collected friday wife drove saturday no apparent problems but today going to dads for fathers day and all lights on dash going mad specifically stop sign flashing with audible warning for about 30 secs red warning light above temp gauge and temp gauge not registering any temp.stopped car got out opened bonnet cooling fan running when engine cold no loss of coolant and they managed to break one of the rubber mounting pylons for the engine cover that I only changed six months ago What is causing all these problems? I suspect that whilst carring out the repair fuel fiter etc. they have broken or dislodged some sensor on water temp that is now telling the engine management system there is a cooling problem when there is not any citroen wizzos who can help. also when we got home can not operate cental door locking with key fob is this connected? -
Car Vandalised-suspect known-[Read only] 15 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Thanks for any help/advise with this.. Just walked out to my car to realise that my car has a deep scratch running down the whole length of the drivers side, back license plate ripped off and a dent on the L back door , presumably caused by a kick to the back door.. I live in hospital accomodation and the cars are parked in the carpark and as such there is no CCTV in this area so no way of finding out who was the the offender.. -
Speed humps, the council and my front bumper. 8 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi all, Bit (more) advice please!!! We live on a newish estate with one main estate road running through the houses. You HAVE to drive down the bigger road to get to our house. In roughly quarter to half mile stretch there are no less than SIX speed humps, both the "cushion" type and "table top" type. -
Never meet your heroes 19 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Never could quite justify the cost but for various reasons including model replacement, fuel prices and so on they are starting to look reasonable at least on purchase price, if less so on running costs. Anyway, more on a whim than anything I went to see a couple at the weekend. One had the 2.2 petrol engine ( badged 520 ) with a manual box and the other was the 3.0 auto diesel. Test drove them both expecting to be smitten and parting with some cash.
