  • fabia engine warning - oil overfill 5 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I rang the AA and asked them and they sent a van, his computer wouldn't talk to it for whatever reason but he said it was overfilled with oil and so didn't want me to drive it, but didn't know if this was the problem. I got a tow back which is a another story. I have booked it in to the garage, no space till next week. My fear is that they have screwed the catalytic converter but would like to know if the warning light could mean this or what else it could mean.
  • Ford Mondeo 2.0 TDCi engine failure 21 May 2006 (Forum)
Computer data lost and computer reset (ECU). After the guarantee period 10 times unexpectedly in garage and towed away 3 times. Replaced clutch (60.000 miles), injectors (3 times, always on cylinder 3), diesel inlet filter, reprogrammed ECU. Last week engine broke (80.000 miles). Piston of cylinder 3 has smashed the internals of the engine completely.

  • immobiliser is too effective! 11 Dec 2005 (Forum)
They came, said it was an immobiliser issue since the red security light kept flashing, even after unlocking the car. The bloke said it would have to be towed back to Lexus on Monday morning. Eventually, someone told me to try disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting, and turning the key to ignition position and leaving it there for at least 6 minutes.
  • VW On Call......SIGH....... 12 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Operator said he will give her a ring back in 2 minutes so he could confirm we had cover, which he did, he then said they had had problems with people re-newing for two years, the computer did`nt register this renewel he said. So now the tow truck was on its way to my wife by herself in a layby in the middle of no-where, said it would be within the hour, TWO hours later the van turned up and dealt with the problem. Seems all is not well at Volkswagen from sales, after sales to recovery.
  • Some advice please 17 Feb 2005 (Forum)
On Monday my mother was using the Proton, and whist driving it, the car cut out on her (The same fault or similar problem as the pug's 207s) the total loss of engine power - so no brakes, etc... RAC has said that the car is now unfit and unsafe to drive, so it has been towed to another Proton Dealer in Notts this time to find the fault. HQ has been informed and trying to locate the fault. Now since this has happened, could we request another that the car is replaced with another one with the same spec and mileage?
  • Discovery TD5 auto y2000 - brakes 11 Jan 2005 (Forum)
I would be grateful for any feedbck on brakes & perfomance. I have had the car for 3 years, and has 30K on the clock. I dont tow, and no major probs so far. I live by the sea, and my brake discs go rusty in 48 hours. The car rarely travels more than 20 miles per day, at no more than 40mph (with annuual 2000 mile round trip[s to Spain) The brakes now need replacing, as the discs are grooved.
  • New car warranty 19 May 2004 (Forum)
The dust from the shoes built up and jammed my wheels up. When I took it to the dealer at first they fited a new clutch. when the car jammed again the AA towed the car to the dealer. First question? Should the brake shoes break up like that on a 2 year old car and is is classed a wear and tear or mechanical failure. I am disputing this with the dealer.
  • My next car ... 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
I need an estate so I can put tools and assorted junk in the back as I pursue of my new career (!) of handyman/gardener. The car needs to have 100 - 110 bhp diesel engine and to be able to tow 1300Kg of caravan. I believe that the local Citroen dealer will give me the best price on the Synergie, say £3.5K leaving me to put in £7K to get a year old C5 estate. So far I have got on well with the local dealer which has a value in itself.
  • Insurance "Business Use" Query. 12 Jun 2003 (Forum)
Hello All, I wonder if anyone could tell me whether my wife needs "Commuting" or "Business use" on her car insurance. I am unsure what to include because her permanent place of work is a mobile classroom that is towed between local schools. Each week it is moved to a different school around Bournemouth. She drives to her mobile classroom and works from it each day. So, does the mobile form her permanent place of work (therefore requiring only commuting) or would her drive to work be considered to be visiting multiple establisments in the course of her business day, therefore requiring business use.
  • starter motor faulty? 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
i have astra mk2, recent problems include stalling after 10 mins drive; carbonised spark plugs; faulty battery.( sparks & battery replaced); today it wouldn't start. nor turn the engine; i checked for loose wires etc, found 1 and rewired it on the ignition switch. i eventually called in the breakdown mechs, and although they managed to start the car by short towing they warned me that starter motor is faulty and may not restart if left off overnight. can anyone advise on where i go from here and could a dodgy starter motor explain the cutting out/stalling problem mentioned earlier. how would i proceed with removing current starter motor to take to auto-sparks as haynes mentioned the procedure for 1.2cc and 16 valve 1.6cc only. how much can i expect to pay for repair/replacement etc. any and all advice on this most welcome urgently please. thanks again.... rob

  • Daughters NCD taken after non claim 8 Mar 2018 (Forum)
She hit a leasehold car from the back doing 5MPH at a junction. Her car recieved minimal damage to her bumper from the tow bar but the car she hit had no signs of anything. When the leasehold car was taken back the company were informed someone had nudged the back but no damage was evident.  My daughter has just had her insurance renewel in and it has gone up by £850 which was a complete shock and her 2yr NCD has been taken.
  • Toyota Aygo 55 plate 997cc - Sudden loss of power 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
My son recently had an accident and ran into the back of a car with a tow bar. I`ve just picked the car up today having had the bodywork repaired  , a new radiator , grill , bumper beam etc. Driving home the car was fine then suddenly I felt all the power go and had to drive back at literally 5 miles per hour with the car stuttering and vibrating.
  • GOLF TDI Bluemotion - Misfuel 3 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Called the roadside assisitance, who ran a diagnosic check and said the issue was fuel pressure? I got towed to the dealership where i purchased the car and they have said the main fuel pump is broken which has affected the leads and sensors?? Anyway they are saying this can be caused by a misfuel, putting unleaded into a diesel.

  • Volvo 940 LPT - Engine missing, cutting out 10 Oct 2013 (Forum)
One hot day crawling about town it got so bad I couldn't get over about 1200 revs, had a job to get along, stopped for ten munutes and then back to what passes for normal, OK up to 2500 revs.I can cruise on light throttle openings but floor it and it misses/cuts out immediately. Not much fun towing a trailer uphill. Went to the main dealer diagnostic but nothing found, and now they won't  respond to my phone calls. As you may imagine this is frustrating and I would scrap it if I hadn't just fitted a new clutch.
  • mazda rx8 2006 - ignition/immobiliser staring issue 10 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Had vehicle towed home - the battery was still holding a full charge no fuses blown and no visible signs of damaged or burnt wires, have been unable to resolve problem. I think problem is to do with the immobiliser as when I try to start it the red key light on dash flashes quickly Any ideas on how to make my car live once more?
  • Volvo S40 (2004 - ) - 06 2.0D Starting problem 16 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Initially it had a software download, then a new ignition switch, then the car would not start at all, and was towed to the garage, outside warranty. It had the "sludge" cleaned out of the tank and a new fuel pump. Sadly this has not cured the problem, and the car is still very unreliable when starting. I am about to book the car into the Volvo dealership again (for the sixth time) but really have little confidence that they can fix it.
