  Is it a good idea to buy a 13,000 mile 4 year old Corolla. I've heard it's better to buy a higer mileage car (given that both cars are the same age) than a low one. Not sure of the reasoning behind this tho'.

  As its only his word about the car being serviced before I collected can I still refuse the car in its condition. He has stamped the log book to say its been serviced. Thanks alot John

  Have a look at CAR magazine (you can read it in Smith's). The two peugeot concepts - Hearts and Spades are top banana. One drawback, old spacehopper belly seems to be writing for them...

  Changing brake discs on our KA3 (Japanese-built)Honda Legend Coupe and after some difficulty getting someone who could obtain the correct size as per what is currently fitted on the car not what is in most catalogue listings for the Legend, I picked them up yesterday. I took an old one in for comparison and everything matched up except the hub centre diameter which is bigger than the old one.

  Does anyone know where the best place to get 6 months old pre reg cars . I would be also interested if anyone has an info on the ex rentals car as I have been told they get rid of the cars after six months. I presume these go the auction. Anyone know where.

  I'm about a week away from part-exchanging my car at the main dealers for a new car, apart from removing all my tat from the car should I go to to trouble of washing it and cleaning it inside? It's an 8 year old car and definately won't be sold at the main dealers.

  Does anyone know of any cars within a budget of £15K (new or up to 3 years old) come with cruise control? I am aware of the Mondeo Ghia X (just within budget at car supermarkets) and used to have a Volvo S40 SE with it. Must be a manual.

  Can anyone suggest the best nearly new small car for a 73 year old lady who: a) Do not want anything 'electric' (windows, etc) and b) Doesn't want more than a 3 door model. Mileage will be more than just around town. Present car is a Polo, very pleased with it but wants something different.

  I heard on the radio today that when swedish cars are three years old they have an MOT test which is so strict that it demands that the cars entire braking system is replaced.It was claimed that lots of cars are scrapped early in their life and replaced with a new one, has anyone ony knowledge of this ?

  What the best car shampoo on the market? Everytime I wash my car its left with loads of marks/smugges. I seen on TV once a car shampoo that after you washed your car left some sort of 'magic' shine to it.When water was poured on it just ran off leaving it as new.

  with a multi meter on the electrical plug feeding the pump i was reading 10v which i just assumed was down from 12v as the battery may be a little flat due to me trying to start the car so many times. i bought a new pump and upon fitting i realised that this pump was not working either. i then tried a 12v battery accross the +/- terminals of old pump and it fired up straight away. with old pump back in i tried starting the car with the 12v battery connected to the pump, started ok!

  There is never any water which comes out the back and I took this picture with the engine running to show that there is no problem with my emissions. I've used no oil or water in the 1500 miles I have had the car. What has caused this? I suspect it must be rain water hitting it and then rust deposits landing on my plastic bumber. Do I have any comeback now? The exhaust is exactly 1 month and 700 miles old.

  Had some discussion some time ago on my one-make classic club forum about the wisdom of carrying young children in old cars without seat belts. I said that, although I would love to take my two 4 yr old and one 7 yr old grandkids out in the Jowett , I just couldn't risk it in today's traffic. The image of a much loved child's face interfacing with a walnut dash and chrome instruments was not one I would like to see or be responsible for.

  To be fair the toyota was an old supra with full bodykit and wings and deserved to be broken down and the V.W. was an old transporter van but all the others were relatively modern. The one noticable thing about this is that out of 8 vehicles 4 of them were japanese.

  "it's complicated........" The number of people who buy an old car with very low mileage as opposed to a newer car with higher mileage, never ceases to amaze me.
