basic car? - Paul
Can anyone suggest the best nearly new small car for a 73 year old lady who:
a) Do not want anything 'electric' (windows, etc) and
b) Doesn't want more than a 3 door model.
Mileage will be more than just around town. Present car is a Polo, very pleased with it but wants something different. Grateful for suggestions.

Yaris?

go for the fiat punto, as it has a city button, which is very useful for city driving.

base model corolla

what about a perudoa nippa? Probably won't have electric anything

My Mum, also 73, has a Corsa. Has c/locking, but not windows. Radio is a bit trick for her, but I preset it to local radio and radio 4 and she copes quite well. New ones have electric PAS, but she won't notice that!

Mike

PS, Mum can programme a video recorder, which I can't! Perhaps she's 'gifted' with technology.

My mum took delivery of a base model Yaris with optional PAS today.

Drove a 1 litre one the other day. One of the female mambers of my family had the inevitable crash and had the Yaris as a hire car.

Interior is a little like the Ford Ka's. Performace from the tiny 1 litre engine is superb. It revs cleanly up to it's 6k red line.

If you can hack the shape (and I personally like it) then it's a winner.

Base Fiesta or Ka ?
Fiat Punto Is the one - Marcus
The Basic Fiat Punto is a great little car - I think they call it "Mia" it has standard Power steering with the City button as already pointed out, this makes the steering super light for manouvering etc. they seem to be excellent value compared to Corsa, Polo Fiesta crowd. I have seen nearly new ones for 4999

Not Ka, a mate has had a few problems from his.

I used to rate the ageing Spanish Engine for it's simplicity.

I was wrong.

Corsa with PAS. reliable, cheap to run and service.
