  • ford fiesta finesse - humming/howling sound when driving 14 May 2011 (Forum)
i have a 2002 petrol fiesta.  It makes a strange humming / howling sound (like wind through wires) when i drive.  It does not make the sound when standing still.  I still hear the sound when i drive and dip the clutch and also when i pull out of gear and coast.  It seems to be louder when i slow down to stop.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.25 auto - Stalling problem 2 May 2011 (Forum)
I have just purchased a second hand N reg 1996 Fiesta Zetec 1.25 LX Automatic. I have only been driving it a few days but it has stalled 3 times. It stalls after turning the engine on and trying to put it into drive. The way I have to press the brake in to put the car into drive is very different to my hubbys Renault Laguna RT (R Reg).
  • Diesel Hatchbacks. 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I spent almst an entire day in the focus and covered about 60 miles of driving and after still couldnt see why the focus is supposedly so much better. The Alfa looks better, has a nicer engine and far superior interior. I didnt find the focus to be as good to drive as it has been made out to be.
  • eco driving - does it conflict with Roadcraft? 28 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I thought current advanced driver training recommended 3rd gear when driving in built up areas to permit good speed control, throttle response and engine braking? Would any of the advanced or Police drivers on here care to add their thoughts about the latest advice to stick in high gear at all costs for the sake of mpg?
  • Earning NCDs on 2 different cars 9 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi all, basically my wife is the registered owner of both of our cars and the insurance is in her name for both cars. I am registered as the main driver on one of them as i drive that more then she does and she is registered as main driver on the one she drives more. My question is: currently, she has 5 years NCD (Protected) on the car i drive most of the time and is in the first year of insurance on her car.
  • Driving in snow - advice? 24 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I had to my first snow driving tonight, my road had about 1 inch snow on it. As I left my road I felt my back wheels slipping (the rear tyres have about 5mm tread on them) and I managed to get down the road at about 10mph then slowly braked but then it felt like I lost all grip and the car skidded slightly.
  • Do dealers offer unaccompanied test drives? 10 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Just wondering whether dealers offer potential customers unaccompanied test drives nowadays? I'm a private buyer, looking to buy new/nearly new, have a short list of three or four makes/models. I don't intend to rob a bank or trash a car but would really rather try the car out for half an hour or so without having to make small talk with the sales exec.
  • Peugeot 308 (2007 - ) - Is 126mpg actually achievable? 19 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I wonder what other records I "could" achieve and what these "few good driving habits" might be..............
  • Motoring tour of Britain - a flawed idea? 1 Jun 2009 (Forum)
It would also provide some useful expierience in my still-young driving career. My question is, is this a flawed notion? Would the reality be the stress and drudgery of driving on England's roads? Perhaps the appeal of this kind of trip belongs in a bygone age?
  • Caught drink driving 27 Feb 2009 (Forum)
I am currently studying in Scotland in 4th year, but i am from France. I came here from France with my car. Yesterday night, while driving my girlfriend back home after a night out I was caught drink driving with breath test a 0.79. I'm feeling a bit down at the moment and the court will be on the 27th of February. As a student I don't have that much of money.
  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.25 Sqeaky auxiliary drive belt 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
My Fiesta makes a characteristic squeaky sound from the auxiliary drive belt. I've heard other Fiesta's making the same sound and a Focus that drives past my house every morning does the same thing. I've replaced the the tensioner bearing, the idler and the water pump, though not all at once, so can't rule these out completely.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Fuel consumption urban figure 22 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My Ford Focus is a 1.8 petrol. According to the owner's guide I should be getting 27mpg for urban driving. Does anyone know how the car was driven to give this value i.e. would it include high revving through the low gears and periods of idling, and would it include driving up hills. The thing is since I had an oil change I have been getting 2-4mpg less on urban driving.
  • Rear wheel drive or Front wheel drive ? 12 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Sunday musing. Most mass produced cars have been FWD for years. The reasons seem to be mainly to do with manufacturing expediency. There are notable resistors...
  • Peugeot 405 Diesel (1988 - 1996) - 1993 1.9 banging noise from rear 1 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Also i have bounced on the towbar and rocked the car and i can't make the noise happen but when i drive it the banging starts by just driving down the road, i don't even have to drive over a bump for it to bang. Anyone got any ideas as it's driving me mad?

  • Define Clean Driving Licence 6 Apr 2008 (Forum)
At the age of nearly 51 I'm giving up doctoring on health grounds, taking a medical retirement and then will look for a low stress job. I actually enjoy driving and even in a city environment I still find it relaxing, so this is the area I will be looking for work. Employers ask for a "clean driving licence". Does this mean no prosecutions showing from any point in time or just no current prosecutions?

  • Liability for rear end accident? 30 May 2005 (Forum)
However my wife was driving and she chose instead to drive over the rabbit (wheels straddling it). The rabbit was ok. My question is, if I'd been driving and had stopped dead, and someone rear-ended me, who's fault is it?
