  • Vauxhall astra temperature problem 25 Jan 2005 (Forum)
This is more noticeable when driving around town. On the motorway the change is not as great. I have checked the coolant and I am not getting any oil in it and it does not seem to be losing any. It also never overheats. Any ideas. Thanks Crol
  • Help! Fiesta (OHV) thermostat 6 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Just doing the coolant change on my girlfriend's Fiesta. It's the 1.3 OHV engine. Anyone know how you get the thermostat out? I've removed the thermostat housing, and now can't get it out! The manual says to 'compress and withdraw thermostat retaining clip' but doesn't show a picture.

  • Is the garage which sold my daughter a faulty MGTF liable to repair the engine? 24 Dec 2010 (Ask HJ)

  • Vauxhall Corsa D (2006 - ) - 07 1.4 Head Gasket/Water Coolant/Engine failure 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
I had to get recovery and the recovery man said that it looked as though the head Gasket had blown and the water coolant container was leaking into the engine causing it to overheat and cut out. The vauxhall garage originally said that this should be covered under warranty , but now there technicians have looked at this they said that they may not pay for this as they think i've driven for too long on low water causing more damage.

  • Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 02 1.9 130 BHP - White(ish) smoke. 3 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I've added an oil supplement for stopping smoke (it was a very thick gel / liquid substance) they claim it repairs rubber seals and stops stem / valve leaks. - Its made no difference. 3. If I removed the coolant tank cap so the pressure is removed and left the car stationary - would that prevent the coolant leaking into the exhust? Anyone else have any thoughts / ideas why the car would smoke like it does?
  • Toyota Yaris (1999 - 2005) - Garage keep finding new faults - now another £700? 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The water pump was replaced (£310) but I continued to have problems - the underlying fault was not fixed. The next suggestion was to replace the coolant sensor (£71), but I continued to have the same problem and it started to get progressively worse - the coolant level started to drop and the engine malfunction light started to come on intermittently and they eventually did diagnose a head gasket failure.
  • Toyota Starlet - Coolant temperature sensor and temperature gauge 31 Mar 2022 (Forum)
I finally got around to getting a warning code from it, and it came back with 22, indicating an issue with the coolant temperature sensor. I researched the correct part to buy, and decided that Cambiare VE375145 would do the job, so bought one from ebay for about £15.
  • Ford Mondeo estate 2010 - Ford 1.8 tdci mondeo overheating 14 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Dealer mentioned about an overheating issue which they had 'fixed' by changing the thermostat.  So last summer it overheated on the M25 (almost no coolant) - I should have taken it straight back to the dealer (another bad move) but took it to my local garage instead.  They changed the fan which wasn't working.  Overheated again about a week later - this time found the coolant leaking out the thermostat housing.
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 overheating problem? 1 Jan 2014 (Forum)
There are seemingly many causes of overheating and so far I've been lead towards the following : faulty CHT sensor, faulty thermostat and the blue Ford coolant which has never been renewed, so could do with being replaced. The fact that the temperature gauge can go into the red and then (once you ease of) back again so quickly leads me to suspect a faulty CHT sensor.
  • SEAT Altea (2004 - ) - 55000 mile report 22 Oct 2009 (Forum)

A common response when discussing the issues with the Altea was ?
  • 1.4 cvh 55kw 1998 - Ford escort overcooling 12 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I have read about the cvh thermostat housing and it has some kind of plastic ball inside that melts when engine overheats which i think is my problem because last year my engine overheated because of faulty fan when it overheated i replaced the coolant tempeature sensor and the thermostat thinking it would help but it didnt since then i have no heat :( . Now that i know the ball inside is melted i know that coolant is bypassing the thermostat going straight into the radiator.
