  • Sold the S-Max; Now what to get? 2 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I need to project a successful professional image - so no Range Rovers or BMW X5. The S-Max has served us very well and apart from a £395 rear shock absorber, it has required no repairs.  Everything has worked very well especially the Electric Handbrake!  So, what do I replace it with?

  • Audi A4 (1995 - 2000) - Possible purchase. What do you all think? 15 Dec 2007 (Forum)
A local bombsite trader (think of a bad-tempered Turkish Bellboy without the wit) has a RHD Audi A4 Avant that he´s taken as a PX, and is going to find difficult to shift. No market for RHD here in Germany, and it´s still on UK plates. It´s a late ´96 2.6 V6 automatic, fairly high spec. Bad bits: undocumented 115k miles, no service history at all (book is missing).

(mine has a combined remote alarm/immobiliser, I think it\'s Thatcham 1, which was fitted by the dealer prior to delivery) I can\'t imagine they\'d provide a courtesy car for this work, so I\'d like to have an idea of what\'s involved before I call them - I just like to be prepared.

Could I have got the same (or more) satisfaction in a new car of the same size for less money? Maybe, but I kinda doubt it. I like this BMW?s style, design philosophy and ergonomics, as well as the self-assured way it does what is asked of it. There?s nothing that irritates. It?s a good car.

  • Ford B-MAX - Buying cat s car 12 Jan 2025 (Forum)
I found this post really helpful and as I sadly don’t have a personal friend in the repair trade I’m hoping that I might get some help on here x Here’s a pic of my cat S car pre repair. Does this look like a fairly simple fix? Or perhaps you can’t tell enough from just this pic. I’m trying to clarify that if I got hit in this spot again that the car safety would function still as it should.
  • Suzuki S-Cross - Impressions 15 Jan 2022 (Forum)
I’ve been running a new Suzuki S-Cross for just over a week now, as part of the launch activity, and it’s impressing me. Aesthetically, it’s a big step forward from the previous versions, with a more contemporary nose and tail treatment and internally the traditional Suzuki quality fit and finish has been supplemented with some soft touch materials within reach of the passenger on the dashboard.
  • Ford Fiesta 1.6 S - MK 6 Fiesta 1.6 Zetec DIY cambelt change 28 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Hope I'm not going to get my head bitten off here! but my son has a 06 plate Fiesta 1.6 S 130K with cambelt history unknown so needs doing. I have the tools and have a done a few belts over the years on other cars and misc other work but I'm clearly no mechanic.
  • Ford Focus Zetec S 1.8 tcdi - repair problems 6 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I have just had a timing belt snap (the main one was replaced at 95,000 miles) on my ford focus zetec S (59) with 156,000 miles, I was told that it was the inner one that snapped that has no replacement schedule ?? I have had it repaired (all new valves and pistons) and a new clutch and flywheel. It came back from a local independent garage only to find it had a fuel leak, it went back and I was told the fuel pump had gone (not his fault !)
  • Audi A3 1.8TFSI Sport S-tronic - Replace mechatronics unit or not? 21 Dec 2013 (Forum)
My wife has owned an Audi A3 1.8TFSI Sport S-tronic since new (Aug 2007). It has covered 56,000 miles, is in super condition and we love it other than the DSG transmission's jerkiness from rest. After this worsened, Audi reset the software, which slightly improved matters, but it is still very difficult to manoeuvre at slow speeds because of the sudden, jerky take-up of drive however carefully one feathers the throttle.

  • Ford S-MAX - Broken bolt - roofbars 7 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Went to hire a rof box for our hols today. The S-max has fixed points under covers on the roof.  All going well until, when tightening the bolt holding the rack to the roof, the guy fitting it sheared the bolt flush with the hole. He drilled down the broken stud but it did not fully remove and the bar is now held firmly with a self tapping screw into the hole left by drilling I'm fine for my hols.
