  • Motorcycle styling trends 21 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Wiling away a wet Saturday morning, did plan to go for a run on the ZX7R, just looking on the Yamaha website, they have an archive section, interesting as to how contemporary the '92 FZR1000 looks both in design and colour scheme, (red, white and blue) however the '95 colour scheme with dark purples etc looks way out of date now.
  • car insurance, no credit card. 20 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Anybody know of an insurance company that does not require a credit card for the deposit? I'm tearing my hair out trying to get insurance for our latest banger. We have never run into this problem before and had insurance for years. This is now cancelled as it was for my husband's van business that recently folded. We want to pay by direct debit only. Is this so odd? There must be many people out there without a credit card surely. Is this why so many people drive without insurance?
  • Ford Escort 1.8 TD LX 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I have followed all the instructions in the Haynes manual and now the car will only start if the primer pump is rapidly compressed. The engine will then run for maybe 30 secs to 1 minute then it shuts down. There is no air at all in the fuel system it just seems as though the pump has given up the ghost and died. I cannot understand how this could just happen as it was working fine up until I ran out of fuel.
  • SAAb 9-5 alarm woes 19 Jan 2007 (Forum)
However, it does not trigger the indicator lights as you would normally expect. Furthermore, I cannot disable the sound, and have to let it run its course - often I choose to disconnect the battery for a while - which I do in the hope of re-booting things. The local (good) dealer looked at the alarm diagnostics, and saw no trend of any one sensor triggering the alarm frequently -thus concluding that the sensors were not the problem.

  • Vauxhall Vectra (MK1) Are they that bad. 9 Dec 2006 (Forum)
He uses his own car a 2001 Vectra petrol (2 litre) - his mileage 230,000 miles, he bought it 5k up as a "bargain". 225,000 miles later serviced in accordance with Vauxhall's recommendations it's never come to an involantary halt, it run like new, yes it's had load of bits but it's done nearly a quarter of a million miles. Probably sell it for a grand or so if he chose. A cracking car by any measure ! Oh and the thing polishes up like a new car.
  • Tyre additives to alleviate punctures. 21 Nov 2006 (Forum)
The compound was called, if I remember correctly, 'Flat Free' and after letting down the tyres the recommended amount was then added via the valve and then pumped up again and run for several miles to distribute the product evenly around the inside of the tyre. Do such materials have a deleterious effect on the tyre or its state of dynamic balance? Has anyone used these products or similar ones that are used after a puncture to reinflate the tyre and seal a hole?
  • Pug 405 - how do I drain the coolant? 6 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Coolant is clearly there in expansion chamber ? have opened bleed valve, left expansion chamber top off and even run engine to try and pump the old coolant out. The rad is fairly new, so I?m sure it?s not bunged up with sludge. This one?s stumped me ?. Ideas, suggestions and thoughts welcomed ? as always.
  • MOT failure Fiesta - fix or scrap? 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Took my 95N Fiesta classic 1.8 diesel for it's MOT today and it failed on the following: -both front and 1 rear brake pipe corroded (1 rear was done last year) -Offside front suspension balljoint escessive play -hand brake efficiency only 13% (they say it needs a new cable, I reckon it just wants the adjstment tighting) All in they quoted me £300 to get it to pass. I don't think it's worth it. The car has done 110k, current MOT runs out at the end of Dec as does the Tax. Your views would be appreiciated.
  • Nissan Sunny loss of power 23 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I've got a 1400cc Nissan Sunny (1990 model with 12v carb engine) which has been running poorly for a while. The engine began misfiring, so I changed the distributor cap & rotor arm, and checked the leads (which are fairly new anyway). The misfiring problem seems a bit better now, but the engine still feels gutless, and has started backfiring under acceleration at low revs (1500-2000 revs).
  • Cavalier 2.0 16v Engine light help 18 Sep 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I'm just about to sell a 1995 Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i 16V SRi and ebay for my sister-in-law and have just noticed it hit's the rev limiter at 4500 rpm and then misses. When you start it, it pops and bangs a bit then runs fine until you rev it. The Orange engine mangerment light is on which i knew and and had said in my listing. Does anyone know why it does this and is there a quick easy way to fix it?, it shoud rev to 6000 rpm.

  • Mondeo air con 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
After feeling a bit stupid, I carried on but checked again later.......still doing it. If the air con is switched off the leaking stops. Does the air con have fluid to run it, or is it just excess condensation?? Sorry to sound so stupid but I havent has the luxury of it before! Your comments appreciated. Craigh
  • Want to sell year old Astra - best way? 25 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I am a little concerned about advertising in Auto Trader etc because the car isn't that old and is worth about £9500 if I sell privately. I guess I'm just worried that some scam artist will run off with my car. Does anyone have any tips of how best to sell a car of this age and get the best return? Many thanks Matthew
  • Mondeo water leak 22 Jul 2006 (Forum)
looking from underneath the car, above the exhaust mounts at the front of the CAT are the two pipes taking the water to and from the interior of the car, and just below these two pipes is another pipe that doesn't go anywhere. It's dripping from this pipe. I'm presuming this pipe is a run-off/vent/overflow type of thing, but what has happened to make water come out of it, and how do I stop it? Thanx in advance for any advice given

  • Leaving the car in gear when parked up 9 Jul 2006 (Forum)
This question stems from another forum I frequent where several people have had expensive bills where their handbrake has failed and the car has run away and crashed into something. (no comments about worn rachets please - save that for the other forum post) Does anyone bother leaving their car in gear anymore, or do they soley rely on the handbrake?
  • Buying Mreg 525 TD BMW - your opinion? 6 Jul 2006 (Forum)
Anything to look out for with this model - do you have any owner advice, or opinions? Reliable? Thirsty? Good car? What falls off? Running costs? I'll use it for longer trips, work use to visit clients, and to ferry family of 4 to London three times a year. Concerned whether 130,000 is trouble time...or nothing for that TD engine? Any thoughts welcome.
