Peugeot 2.2 Diesel - Runaway Peugeot 2.2 Diesel 20 Aug 2013 (Forum)
This happened with a Peugeot Boxer -Based camper but is relevant to any turbo diesel on the motorway last wednesday cruising at 65mph after returning from France in Boxer-based camper everything running very smoothly.....van has 19000 miles on original engine (engine is Peugeot 2.2Litre diesel 2008). all of a sudden engine started Missing, say 10 times, then power dropping, started to smoke out exhaust pulled into hard shoulder switched off engine as soon as I switched it off engine started to runaway at absolute max revs - very black smoke Let out the clutch in gear and stopped it after max 2-3 secs (FRIGHTENING!) -
Ford Fusion 2 - A tail of a cat 20 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Symptoms: After starting there's a very loud ratting sound (sound likes a chain slapping on the side of something), which then sounds more like gears grinding. Very loud, people stop on the street to look! Only happens on engine run down from about 2000 revs to idle. NO noise at all on revving up - smooth as a baby's botty. So, if you drive and change and don't go below 2000 revs, you don't hear anything. The noise happens withe no gear selected, and the clutch in or out. and stationary. -
Best MPG automatic 9 Jul 2013 (Forum)
And being rather tall, its driving position was good with its seat adjustment. So, cheap to run and easy to drive and rather quiet. That's what I am looking for. I've checked the 10 best small car in HJ, and the Micra comes last. I do not like at all the look of the Hyundai. And when a manual returns up to 80 mpg, an auto rarely goes above 50 mpg. -
Vauxhall Astra H 1,7 CDTI - Astra H 1.7 CDTI won't start now.... 14 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I did a live data test whilst cranking the engine and will post that here if it helps. Anyone got any idea why this has happened and how to solve it? All was running great previously. I suspect some carbon has gone in the inlet manifold and blocked all air to the engine, is this feasible? -
Volkswagen Golf V - Misfire only on subsequent journies 11 May 2013 (Forum)
My 2005 Mkv TDI will drive like a dream all day as long as the engine is kept running, but as soon as I switch engine off and back on, the car will misfire exactly 26 seconds after ignition. The misfire always starts exactly 26 seconds after the 2nd ignition of the day and for every ignition of the day thereafter. -
Ford Focus - Vibration wobble under load 16 Apr 2013 (Forum)
HI can any one help, had my mk1 focus for 12 years 83,000 milesnow and the last two years it has a fault thats geting slowly worse. the car only vibrates/wobbles under load 45mph+. no vibration through the steering but is felt through the whole car. the more weight is in the car and the more load it is under it gets worse. as soon as the throttle is release the vibration goes. i have had new tyres fitted, another two wheels fitted as found buckles in them. wheels balanced and tracking done, o/s drive shaft changed, new front disc and pads but alas its still there. the only thing i have noticed is when the near side front wheel is jacked up and the car is run at any speed in any gear and the brakes are applied the vibration comes apparant. if i put it in 1st 10mph with foot on throttle also on brake and go as slow as i can it feels like something like thuding.. as soon as i release the brake the thuding stops, it doesn't do this when i do this on the drivers side. could it be drive shaft cv joints, final drive or gear box. any help please its driving me nuts! -
Seat Leon Mk 1 TDI - Puff of white smoke on cold start-up 9 Apr 2013 (Forum)
I've noticed I often get white smoke (as far as I can tell from the driving seat) from the exhaust for a few seconds after a cold start, and the engine seems to struggle to run smoothly for a couple of seconds while smoking. Other times it starts immediately from cold without these symptoms. The car drives normally with no loss of power or other issues and has been correctly maintained. -
Nissan Navara D22 2000 model 4x4 - ABS shuddering 9 Apr 2013 (Forum)
At work we have a couple of these Navara 4x4 2.5 TD pick-ups, the one I have has around 160,000kms on the clock and runs on the standard spec. 205/Rx16 tyres as from the factory. The second identical Nissan has 380,000kms (engine is still good!) and the driver has changed the wheels a few years ago to 235/70x16 tyres and they're not chunky off-road type as you would expect, more like a normal road vehicle - for a number of reasons, mainly because when he pranged it it was easier and cheaper to find those rims. -
Nissan Leaf - New Nissan Leaf for £18K - A Great deal 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
There are no fees so you can buy the car after a few months outright without paying a penalty. Offer runs to the 31st March. I may go the full 2 year term on this deal as I want to see how EV battery technology improves - don't want to be left with old technology! I think this deal is partly due to Nissan clearing 2012 Japanese imported stock prior to starting production in Sunderland in a few months time. -
Electronic Ignition Fault - 406 90HDi 24 Feb 2013 (Forum)
We have had this car, a 1999 Peugeot 406 HD1 Est., 190K miles, since last December, it runs well and has only needed a front spring replacing. Three days ago I went to start it and it turned over normally but wouldn't fire at all. "Electronic Ignition Fault" was on the display.. After spending quite a bit of time looking for bad connections the fault eventually cleared and the car ran normally, but when stopped (turned off), the fault was back. -
Audi A3 + S3 (1996 - 2001) - 2000 1.8T - Shuddering/misfiring - Help! 23 Feb 2013 (Forum)

I run the car on good fuel, V-power, and have done for 6 months with no problems. Plugs replaced 10k ago with last service. Any thoughts? Help? Thanks for listening, Clach -
Renault Laguna 1.9Dci power dips 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi Folks I have a 2001 Renault LaGuna 1.9DCi i recently started to suffer from dips in power, driving a long i would press the accelerator and there would be no power after a few seconds the engine managment light would come on, i would stop the car, restart and everything would be ok for a while. so last week i took the car to a Renault Main dealer, he diagnosed the EGR valve and No 3 Injector needed replacing £636.36 Parts and Labour, at the weekend i took the car for a run to Newcastle low and behold the fault raises it's ugly head again so i stop the car and it goes away, I returned the car to the main dealer this morning just been on the phone to them and they told me it needs further new parts, there is a rip in the intercooler wall. a further £357.00 I beleive that the rip in the intercooler wall is either the original fault or has been caused when the EGR valve has been replaced. -
Mobile phone purchase - 02 shop in Tesco no consumer rights 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
We are now left with an £1800 bill to finnish the contracts now or £2750 if we let them run. Where on earth are tesco's policies ? surley Tesco should have some moral obligations to ask the correct questions first ? Safer to buy from 02 shop for sure & as for tesco customer service we have made so may calls & visits and we are just blanked or fobbed of with excuses every visit. -
Ford Focus Estate tdci 1.6 2007 - low power 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
My wife sometimes runs on nearly empty. Then we had a noticeable drop in car performance.. having to go up hills in 1 or 2. Noticed the red light was on and we had an engine system warning. Thought it might be the dpf and after checking oil and water I decided to raise the pressure on the sytem to get rid of any clogging in the dpf. -

Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 99 1.25 Airbag light stays on 2 Sep 2012 (Forum)
He also found a voltage drop of almost 4 volts between the battery and the module which he thinks could be causing the airbag module to think it has a fault. I think the battery voltage with the engine running was 14.2 and the voltage at the module was 10.4 or thereabouts. Could this voltage drop be due to a bad earth or a bad connection and if so can anyone suggest where to look? I have already disconnected and reconnected the two yellow connectors under the seats with no effect. -
Peugeot 306 XSi - Overheating: head-gasket / thermostat / other? 30 Aug 2012 (Forum)
4 days ago, noticed a small leak of water directly under the coolant-tank. Filled it back up, didnt think anything else of it and car has been running fine...until yesterday morning when I heard a constant clicking sound from under the bonnet and noticed 110° on the temperature gauge. Immediately stopped, pulled car over, opened bonnet: smoke coming from oil-tank and water.coolant tank. -
BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 02 2.5 525d engine failure - swirl flaps 8 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I own a late 2002 BMW 525d SE auto. Recently the car started running very poorly. I took the car into the local BMW specialist (not dealer) who diagnosed low compression!! On stripdown it transpired that two of the swirl flaps had failed & parts had passed into the cylinders causing damage to one pistion & several valves. -
Mazda 3 - Mazda 3 Transmission fault after 25000 miles 14 Jul 2012 (Forum)
When questioned they could not be any more specific only saying that they needed the car in the garage for at least a week to remove the gearbox and investigate further and the cost would likely run into thousands. Is a con-incidence that the warranty expired at it 3 years old!! Mazda UK have offered to pay 75% of the cost but could not give me any idea how long or even an estimate on the cost.
