  But it's also the name of a rather basic special edition of Renault’s fair-to-middling 1980s mid-sizers… The Renault 9 and 11 ’Broadway’ models were introduced in 1986 as a run-out special, ahead of the humdrum hatch and staid saloon’s mid-life facelift, which brought in an angular new nose and more plush interiors. And here’s a rare survivor. This 1986 Renault 11 Broadway has been off the road for years, as it comes from a deceased estate.

  .’ Twenty-five years ago, the 190 E 2.5-16 Evolution II was unveiled at the Geneva International Motor Show. Legend has it that the limited run of 502 cars were sold pre-launch, possibly being squirrelled away by international car collectors. The bitter rivalry between BMW and Mercedes-Benz in saloon car racing at the time throughout Europe helped hone the greatest touring cars of the era.

  Not only will they be revving up on track alongside a number of other F1 cars from the similar Mansell, Senna and Schumacher epoch, but additionally they will be on prominent public display in the paddock, giving all visitors a rare chance to see them up close. Brown will also race the March 701. This particular chassis was the very car – run by the Ken Tyrrell Organisation – in which triple World Champion Jackie Stewart won the 1970 Race of Champions at Brands Hatch – the March marque’s maiden Formula 1 race win – and followed up with an equally significant victory a month later in the Spanish GP.

  Around 200 cars from racing and rallying spanning more than 100 years of motoring will be at this year’s show, with classes ranging from pre-war vintage to modern day, delivering high-octane competition with around 100 cars running each day. Expect to see the most diverse line-up of racing with a pre-1931 Austin 7 Ulster in one race and a 2000 Honda Civic R-Type in the next. Around 35-45 clubs will display their cars, with national groups on offer.

Another Leslie car, the RML-run Ecurie Ecosse Cavalier in which the he took his maiden BTCC success at Thruxton in 1993, will take part, as will the ex-Jean-Christophe Boullion Renault Laguna from the 1999 season, with more names added in due course.

  When dusted down and re-commissioned after its 25-year slumber, the Healey, now plated APU 122A, and with a fresh MoT Certificate, has excellent oil pressure and runs well. It comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate and FIA papers dated July 1988. So the questioin remains, why restore it? As it is, it looks the part of a battle scarred competition car.
