Bit of a discussion 5 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I have now changed my plans slightly and i'm going for mainly safety over anything else and have short listed 5 cars. new Laguna new Megane Rover 75 new Mondeo new Vectra not that i need a big car, it just gives that extra reassurance over a old mini! now bearing in mind that i wanted reliability in my choice as well i think the 75 comes out top. discussion, what are the views on all the cars and hopefully experiences of the laguna as that is the safest? -
Worst main dealer ever 11 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Just cross it out mate he replied. Brilliant! I now have 4 weeks before my new car is ready (fortunately I\'ve gone for a new MINI not another Skoda) to sort this mess out. I have a completed invoice from him as well which I may use to formally complain to Skoda. But what should I do with the V5? No one\'s going to be interested in buying a car with someone else\'s stamp all over it! -
Two things... 9 Nov 2002 (Forum)
While I'm at it, what car would anybody advise someone to buy if they had £800-£1100 to spend, were after a small or smallish car (mini-escort) which will have good fuel economy, low tax and insurance and is also likely to be as reliable as possible because they are a poor student who will be spending their every last penny on buying it in the first place (i.e. -
Buying a new car 22 Dec 2013 (Forum)
So this year I decided to buy something with a bit more excitement. Top of the list for me was that it needed to be super mini size again as I really don’t need anything bigger. It also needed to have fairly good handling and reasonable performance. Super minis today are not so “mini” any more. The VW Polo is about the same size as an early Golf now and the Fiesta seems to be similar in size to the old Focus. -
Gas boiler blues 12 Aug 2025 (Forum)
Rather than resurrecting the old 'Which Boiler' thread I thought I'd start a new one. I've been told a 15+ yr old Ideal Mini C24(Kw) a weepy auto air valve replacing and also the gas control valve is 'not working fully' - and also needs replacement. It is also in 'poor condition'. Cost - £450. -
Car Suggestions 15 Feb 2024 (Forum)
Not really dark inside Use will be mixed short local and long family trips Vehicles I have driven and liked: Mini (the new type) Jeep Renegade Toyota Hilux Seat Mii Jaguar XJR Mercedes E class Vehicles I have driven and not liked: BMW 3 series Audi A2 Citroen AX The car will be paid for with cash and will be the main family workhorse, so should be robust and quite long lived. -

Some are franchisees attached to national companies and, I guess, some are sole traders. There's loads of stuff on Youtube about the mini-lifter hot glue puller method. You can buy various kits for anything from £3 (on AliExpress) up to hundreds of pounds for the real thing. Some include a slide hammer some just the bridge etc. -
Review: Nextbase 512G dash camera 15 May 2017 (Forum)
On top of this the mounting has no power connector built in unlike others. You have connect the USB mini connector to the top of the unit again just about impossible to do in situ. What this means is that you have to remove the unit worth the sucksion holder which is a joke as the whole thing then needs doing up and poisoning again, something you just won't do. -
VW Polo - PCP-to renew or not to renew? 18 Jan 2017 (Forum)
His current Polo-an automatic- has only done around 14,000 miles and is (currently!) trouble free. There are a few nasty mini parking scrapes and blemishes on the bodywork, but the car is washed regularly and clean inside(non smoker). All servicing is up to date. if it was me-I would be inclined to keep the car and pay off what I still owe. -
Which car makers do / don't offer a spare wheel? 7 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I'll kick off: Skoda - optional spacesaver. Most VWs I think - spacesaver as standard. Mini - the Roadster has it as an option: I think run-flats are also an option. Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV- spacesaver standard according to the info on this site although when i had a test drive neither the salesman nor I could find it. -

Smart ForFour - Economic to repair or cut my losses 19 Sep 2014 (Forum)
I do relatively high mileage each year (around 24,000 miles) and am more than happy bombing around in 2nd/3rd/4th hand mini/city cars as I don't seem to need anything more comfortable. My current tin-can is a 54 Smart ForFour with a healthy 165k on the clock but it's now starting to wear out some more expensive items with the latest being the need for a new clutch (this for the semi-automatic gearbox so far from cheap) and some wheel bearings. -
Q7di Q7 - 4x4 choices 3 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Some mild off-roading (green laning) would be good but I don't need any major towing capability. A mini bus (MPV) is not really an option, but a consideration against over-priced, over-rated 4x4s that will not be used to their true potential. I would appreciate any opinions on cars, comparisons and encourage constructive debate on the points I made, both for and against. -
2006 ford mondeo - Loud bang then knocking from exhaust or suspension 13 Jul 2011 (Forum)
However as i couldn't see any obvious signs of damage underneath the car and it seemed to drive normally i had forgotten about it and decided maybe i just drove over the part and it skitted up and hit the chassis to make the bang i heard. Just yesterday going round a mini roundabout i heard a similar bang. i pulled in again couldn't see any signs of obvious damage under the car. However i found another similar piece of metal caught in under the wheel arch. Since this most recent event i have noticed an occasional knocking noise coming from the rear of the car, although this may just be my paranoia now that i am listening out for something. -
Test driving a new car 18 May 2011 (Forum)
I arrive at the booked time and have to sit through a HPI check and inspection of my current car - even though I hadn't even mentioned part-ex or a trade-in price (after all this he wouldn't even tell me the part-ex price; "not our policy until you agree to buy") and a mini unwanted finance speech (despite me saying twice I'm looking to pay cash in full) Despite booking a specific engine model, well in advance, and clearly stating that was the model I wanted to try.. -
iPhone 4 - Review - problems with antenna? 20 Jul 2010 (Forum)
For example, could it run Skype minimised in the background, while polling IMAP email in the background, while using Opera Mini to surf this site? It seemed unable to do this - and it wouldn`t run Macromedia Flash applications either. Mrs O came up with a solution in the Apple store. "Just put a coat of clear nail varnish on the bare antenna" She`s thinking of applying to Steve Jobs for a position as Senior Antenna Engineer. -
Motoring memories - tricks of mind via artifacts 29 Jan 2010 (Forum)
You feel it - but it`s gone. You think and focus in - on the detail. The choke knob for example on the Mini in 68 - you FEEL your fingers behind it and the resistance of the stiff wire twixt carb and knob. Actually, detailed memory of the smear of Duckham`s on the rod part of the choke control is there too. -

Early evening central London traffic 21 Jun 2009 (Forum)
As always these days the Marylebone Road was hideously congested. I believe these days there's a sort of mini inverted rush hour as people queue to get into the West End after Congestion Charge time. Beyond Tottenham Court Rd/Hampstead Road underpass though everything was fine, light traffic flowing at a good clip all the way to Hoxton.
