  Hi all. I just picked up a cheap X reg Audi A3 1.9tdi for a run around. When I start it up - even from cold - within a minute the warning symbol and beep from the dash come on saying I should check the coolant levels and the temp gauge shoots across to 120 degrees.

  My mechanic has changed the Oil Pump,Oil,Oil Switch and checked the Strainer and return hose.All seem fine. He has now told me the oil is only spitting at the dipstick instead of running up it. I have spent an absolute fortune on it so far. Does this mean my engine is about to seize up,or could there be a blockage elsewhere?

  Hi John  My car started to be hard to start a couple of weeks ago. When it was running it was fine no missing or lose of power. Then this weekend it would'nt start at all. There is no smoke comming out the exhaust but there is fuel getting up past the the filter. To start with I thought is was heater plugs but because there is no smoke I now think its my pump but I thought there should be no real warning with it like being hard to start, I thought it should either go or not have u any advise for me.

  hi i have a p reg corsa 1200cc engine that wont start. on turning the ignition on the engine management light starts to flash. the engine will turn over but not start. i have been told this is the imobalizer but there in no imobalizer on this, its pre imobalizer and there is no wiring for the sensor on the ignition. i can spray starter fluid in the carb and the engine will run momentarily so i no its not the ignition side of things. i have checked the fuel pump thats fine any ideas ? thanks alan

  As a long time occasional lurker and as I cannot find the answer elsewhere at the moment I would like to answer the following question.   My wife runs the above vauxhall estate and her consumption varies between 24 and 34 mpg. The consumption  from vauxhalls web site suggests that she should be getting be between 28-48mpg,    She used to have an old 1.6 astra auto which returned between 27-49.

  hi guys ive got a 2000 astra mk4 1.6 16v and 50% of the time it drives spot on smooth and quick. the other 50% of the time its will miss when you accelerate, feels same sort of symptoms like when you are running out of petrol and it starts juddering, then it will kick in again and be fine, recently changed oil and plugs so i can rule them out, any ideas would be greatly appreciated as i feel like throwing mi trolley jack through the windscreen at the moment lol....... cheers

  hi friend having problem with his audi a4 diesel. generally in getting into car after it has been raining or driving whilst it is raining the car makes all the noises of missfiring, spluttering, black smoke and loss of power. once it stops raining or left over night and is dry the next day it runs fine, power returns no sputtering and no smoke. had it in the local garage who can't find anything wrong. any ideas. thanks in advance

  Im looking for a car that has cheap road tax and cheap to run.  100 mile round trip to work each day.  About 50% on dual carridgeway the rest stop and start crosscountry. Has to be five door, just not a supermini (may consider supermini estate though), 307 size most likely.

  Before I attempt spending £££ on Fuel filter housing and new £££££ fuel pump? Runs a dream when the fuel is in there and drives fine, but only happens if I say leave it overnight? Thanks!

  He never did a HPI when he bought it so he had no idea it had been stolen before. What I want to know is, why do people turn and run once they discover it had been stolen and recovered 8 years ago? Its not damaged as a result and insurance can be had at the same price as a "normal" car.

  I have a VW Golf 1.6 FSI (56 reg) that started playing up a few days ago (noticeably shaking even when stationary with the engine running, misfiring and therefore lack of power etc.). VW are telling me that there is a problem with the ignition coils on all four cylinders, which I find strange: Why would all four of them go wrong at the same time ?

  There are no apparent leaks and I’ve run the engine straight from a can under the bonnet thus bypassing the primer in case of air leaks. The problem started when I floored it to get into traffic, however, this could be incidental.

  If I do lots of city driving or short journeys, the petrol consumption drops from 35 to 25mpg or worse - the engine also starts surging / running rough and there is a smell of fuel from the exhaust. The only way I have managed to clear this in the past is to drive quickly on a downhill stretch of motorway, then take my foot off the throttle and let the engine overrun for as long as possible - say 75mph down to 60mph.

  hi i'm quite new to this type of forum,so please bear with me re fault description the car is the first of the 300 series(may'94) the electrics are shorting out between the ignition & starter motor - resulting in the h/brake cable glowing red & smoke venting up via cable @ the lever end.the h/brake warning light switch wiring running up to the lever shows no sign of burning. please advise what other wiring can come into contact with the cable such that i can identify the problem & resolve it by the way no fuses have blown best regards

  my friend just purchased this car yesterday he,s come to work this morning and the key wouldnt come out of the ignition finaly we managed to get the key out but the engine didnt turn of so we stalled the car but the dash lights remaind on so we replaced the key and tried to start the car again the car would not start without us bumping it, same again when we stopped and removed the key the engine kept on running, any help would be great please before it has to go to the garage and charged a fortune ... thanks daz

  I need to replace my PIRELLI P6000 195/65 R15 91H (or V) tyres on my 2001 BMW 320D Touring with alloy wheels . Are there any better tyres available with combination of smoother running or better traction in wet / on ice or better cornering or longer life? The MICHELIN Energy Saver publicity sounds interesting and Leeboy mentioned UNIROYAL Rainsport and a local company suggested AVON ZV3 - which are best?

  Fuel pressure, airmass meter, plugs, checked CAT, etc, etc, anyone have any similar experiences? The car is a mk2 auto, and when driving/running at anything less than 4k all  is smooth and it's driving well, on increased acceleration over 4k, the engine simply pulses and this affects the auto box, changing it up and down.

  Yesterday I noticed that the engine was over running for a second longer than usual, the next journey after this the diagnostic light came on. Im not sure but was thinking it might be a stop solenoid or something? The other point which may or may not be a seperate problem is that sometimes when braking to a stop with the foot on the pedal the engine revs drop 200-300 less than idle speed.

  I have to replace the battery in my sister-in-law's car, and as she does only short runs and the battery has died twice already, the RAC advised her to get a new one. Can anyone tell me which original make/model of battery is installed in a 2005 BMW 320 Petrol Saloon? Should I buy a genuine BMW battery, which I suspect would just be a badged battery, or get a Bosch 067/096 or Varta equivalent?
