  I would guess that scrap values have gone up this year. Which affects people like me at MOT-time, looking to put a 1995 Micra, 130k through the MOT. The car already has a dodgy CV joint, a front spring needs replacing, it has severely scratched windscreen (I bought a wiper blade from the pound shop -- doh!), needs new HT leads and probably a new battery for the winter.

  Hi All After being parked for over a week now at a friends place in a resident bay with a valid permits changed every night, the time zone starting at 09.00, I found a ticket on the windscreen of my courtesy car at 11.37-11.43. The pcn is for "Parked in a permit space or zone without clearly displaying a valid permit". A valid permit was on display clearly on the windscreen, with all the other on the passenger seat.

  For a while now I had noticed the fan (for the front window) was intermittently cutting out. Now it has completely stopped working. Before that though, I noticed that the fan was blowing out cold air whatever temperature I had it set at on the heater controls.

  After fitting new front discs and pads, we are having a problem with the front LHS tening to bind slightly and over heating the brake. it seems that the hydraulic cylinders are not retracting after the brake is applied, before buying a new cylinder i would welcome your opininion on this.

  Need to splice some wiring into the roof lining of my car - An 07 Astra Sxi Estate. Between the map reading lights and front windscreen run 2 wires - one brown and one red with a black stripe. I am presuming one is +ve and one -ve. Can anyone confirm this and let me know which is which?

  The AA man said and garage confirm that the cylinder head gasket has blown. It's not been a happy car. 2 weeks after my daughter bought the car it needed a new starter motor and a couple of weeks after that a whole new exhaust. Then there was a problem with the wash wipe and windscreen wipers. More recently something went wrong with the electrics and she had no passenger cabin heating.

  On my Mondeo the rear washer stopped working sometime ago, minor issue and not causing a problem however a week ago the front washers stopped working too. This was around the time of the freezing cold weather, however I waited to see if there was any freezing in the system. But how 2 weeks on, no joy. When you operate the front or back you used to get a noise when the pump was trying/working.
