  • Ford focus mk2 - Warranty on car part 30 Mar 2022 (Forum)
Hi all, Ive had a wheel bearing/Hub start to fail on my car after being fitted 14 months ago and not covering even 18k miles. The seller on eBay has stated to me that it must of been fitted by a registered mechanic and a headed letter of proof for fitting and the fault is needed.
  • Porsche Boxster 2008 - Service due warning 1 Apr 2016 (Forum)
I bought this car from a garage this time last year and enjoyed last summer with it covering 3500 miles or so. The garage had serviced the car and told me that it would not need doing for two years. The car was in storage since last October and was run occaisionly.
  • Deposit on car over phone, does DSR apply? 17 Apr 2012 (Forum)
Hi folks, Quick question - if I put a deposit down on a car over the phone, then travel to inspect it / complete the transaction in person, do Distance Selling Regs apply? I know the car and spec is ok, just having not seen it I don't want to turn up and its covered in stone chips or smells of smoke inside etc.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - Unbelievable high mileage cars/BMW 2.8i 25 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Being a lover of my own E46 328i SE I have just been chatting with a local garage mechanic who has a customer who has owned the same model of car from new that has covered a whopping 276,000 miles with no engine work carried out on it just serviced at the required intervals. I guess mine is just run in at 110,000....LOL. Any more site members have any high mileage car stories?
  • Physical Car Security Device 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, My old corsa was nearly nicked but I managed to chase them off and now I'm looking for a car lock as I need to keep the car for at least another year. I was looking at the market and found it hard to find reviews on the current models. Are the Autolok 2000 plus or EXS the best steering locks on the market?
  • Ford Focus Instrument Panel 26 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Until yesterday I had not used my Ford Focus 1.6 (2003) for 4 weeks. The car has been kept in a garage. Yesterday before starting the car, I noticed that the Fuel Guage & Temperature Guage read approximately 1/3 before turning on the ignition!. The car started first runs OK, the guages then read as expected, but on turning off the ignition and parking the car the guages not zero.
  • is no claims bonus insurance worth it? 1 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Hi, Just bought a second hand 2001 ford focus for 6K. So now have two cars, and a 5 years no claim. I was able to get my 5 years on both cars, but now, feel with two cars, it i am in a bash with one, i could be in trouble. It will cost me £50 per year per car for a no claims cover insurance, which means i am allowed 2 bashes in 3 years, and can keep the no claims.
  • Tyre ware 18 Feb 2002 (Forum)
Whilst pumping up my tyres the other day, I noticed thatone of the fronts is badly worn whilst all the other 3 are still in very good condition. (The car is rear wheel drive). I bought the car 2nd hand from a dealer and it has only covered 17k miles. I presume that this is a problem with the tracking (unless someone can tell me otherwise) and I have not hit any curbs/big potholes etc.....
  • Nissan Primera IV - "Dealer" warranty or "Insurance" warranty ? 29 Jul 2011 (Forum)
I did read some bad reviews about WMS that they blame most claims against wear and tear and refuse to cover.... so it's kind of like not having a warranty ! The problem is, I don't get much good cars in my area, so I probably would have to end up buying a car from 50-60 miles away .
  • Tact or dynamite? 5 Jan 2003 (Forum)
These people also back the warranty. Now I have just discovered that the cam belt wasn't tensioned correctly ( car was making strange jangly noises) which is a serious mistake and it will mean it will have to be done again and properly. Some other belts that are changed at the same time weren't tensioned correctly either, one tensioner was misaligned, the cam cover was bent and an inner cover had a bolt missing.

  • Toyota - Car Insurance Question 1 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Legally I can drive any car under my comprehensive insurance policy, so just wanted to check if the car itself should also be covered under insurance even if my hubby won't drive it when we bring it home for the first time ? Appreciate any advice that the experts can give me here.
  • extra 'personal' insurance bits 26 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I have two cars, insured with 2 different underwriters, but via the same broker company. When I renewed the cover for Car A, I also took the Legal Expenses and Personal Injury extras (provided by companies different from that underwriting the car).
  • Honda Jazz 1.4 EXL (2012) - Scratch and Dent Car Insurance - is it worth it? 7 Aug 2016 (Forum)
(Btw I've also considered GAP insurance but don't feel I need it; i.e. if the car is a write off, the insurance that covers the gap between what your insurance company would pay (market value of car at the time) and the invoice value of the car.) Any and all advice and help is greatly appreciated - thanks so much in advance!

  • Does anyone still use krooklocks / autolocks, etc? 16 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I think i may be right in saying that cars under 5 years old, maybe longer, are fitted with alarms and/or immobilisers as standard. If your car is fitted with these security devices do you still use any other security devices like krooklock, steerlock, autolock etc. devices that covers the steering wheel etc or any other devices.
  • Warranty Woes 27 Oct 2006 (Forum)
I enquired if the repair would be covered under warranty as the car was under 3 years old and had less than 60 k miles on the clock, he said that it might be but would check. I also checked with Ford by phoning their customer service line, they told me that it was a wear & tear item and not covered by warranty, I challenged this and the customer service representative said "we can argue this point all day long but it is not covered by warranty, goodbye" and duly put the phone down on me, hardly good customer relations!
  • Help please! Recommendations for automatic car 1 Jan 2025 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I know this is a topic that has been covered many times here, but I’m finding it all a bit of a minefield so hope a fresh post is okay. I’m looking to buy my first car and have no idea where to start and don’t know anyone who knows much about cars.
  • Mis sold car - Told it was Cat D but actually Cat C 12 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I would not have bought the car had I known it was a Cat C. Can anyone offer any advice from a dealers point of view as to whether the dealer has fulfilled their obligations or if I have in fact been mis sold the car and as such would be covered under the Sale of Goods Act.
  • Driving someone else's car - insurance Q 31 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I rang to add his car to my insurance for a day, but friend's car is still insured in his name, so Direct Line would not add it to my policy (risk of double-claim, they say). So am I covered under Road Traffic Act (3rd party)?
