Mitsubishi Lancer - Very low mileage car 26 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Casually glancing through Autotrader last night I found a nine year old Mitsubishi Lancer with only 11,000 miles. On the assumption that this is genuine, and the photographs are a true representation of the condition of the car, would you buy it? The price is £3,490. -
A new car for the household 2 Apr 2018 (Forum)
Mrs daveyjp wanted a new car - her A class was coming to 5 years old and things were failing - so at the end of March she picked up a one year old smart forfour. She has had a couple of mk 1 smarts, but for a family of three needed more seats. -
Car/MPV with 3 kids 28 Feb 2017 (Forum)
Expecting a third child soon and that's forcing me to look at changing my car (Honda Accord 2.2). With a 6 years old, 4 years old and a new baby it'll be almost impossible to fit them all at the back. I've already tried all their seats and it didn't look good. I'm looking at either getting a bigger car that would allow 3 child seats at the back properly or go for MPV. -
Any - Dilema 24 Dec 2016 (Forum)
I currently drive a 12 year old Skoda TDI with 130PD engine which is approaching 120,000, to date the car has been reliable and is regularly serviced by independent VAG specialist, however I am not sure how long the car will remain reliable and start to cost money to run more than normal. -
VW GOLF or anyother model - What car to choose ? - very much confused 11 Sep 2014 (Forum)

Saab 9-3 Convertible 1.9TiD - Emissions in 2008 model year cars 2 Nov 2011 (Forum)
I'm looking at buying a Saab 9-3 diesel convertible. The reasons are that I'd like an open top car that fits two adults and two teenage children and costs about £12000 for something 3 to 4 years old. I've looked at quite a few cars and I like the Saab's old fasioned ness. I do about 15,000 miles per year including a 25 mile rural A road commute so a diesel looks like it fits the bill (and hopefully I'll be OK with the DPF too). -
New car required - help please? 17 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Hi BR's, A relative of mine requires a car to replace her old Vento diesel. She requires a mid sized car with liftback hatch or estate for the dog. The budget is around £1500 pound and MUST have a diesel. I have suggested that she spends around £1000-£1250 to save a few £££'s back for repairs if needs be as it will be 8-10 years old anything she gets. -
Fuel efficiency of older diesel cars 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I was looking up the fuel efficiency for older diesel cars for city driving and on a site selling old LTI fairway taxis I came up with a figure of 25 - 30mpg in town for a 2.7 litre diesel. Now I don't know if this means stop and start traffic driving or driving at 30 MPH, but this is roughly the same as I get from my old Golf, which is a 1.3 litre petrol. -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - buying e46 330d sport 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
My current car has died (see thirst for coolant on technical) and need a new (to me) car. I have always wanted a 330d (see post over two years old) and am taking this opportunity to get one (03,04 e46 204bhp sport with some spec). -
cars with *clearly defined* lifespans 15 Jan 2007 (Forum)
I noticed that about 11 to 13 years after the last model of the MK2 came off the production lines, they seemed all gone. Of course it seemed there were the odd one here or there that perhaps some old boy had kept in a garage and only used in the dry.. But it seemed as though over a 2 year period 99% went to the scrapper. It had me wondering about other cars of that era and others more modern. Anyone aware of other cars with seemingly such a *well defined* natural life? -
Cheap but Safe 4 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Just looking at a couple of second hand car supermarkets, it looks like you can pick up and old astra/vectra/focus/mondeo for somewhere near £3k, but all have mileage around the 80k+ mark and most are about 5 years old. I'm hesitant to advise on something like this as I have no experience of high mileage older cars (I like to change mine around the 40k mark!). -
Amusing result of reporting un-taxed car 23 Apr 2005 (Forum)
Amusingly, this week he abandoned a Jeep Cherokee and I dutifuly reported it to the old bill. Minutes later they old bill phoned back and asked me to check the registration number. I did and it was as I had previously advised them. Here's the amusing part: NOT ONLY HAD IT GOT NO TAX, IT WAS ON FALSE NUMBER PLATES!!!!! -

Hyundai Accent; good value? 25 Aug 2002 (Forum)
Hi, Just wondering what people thought of the (old-style) Accent? I was looking around for cars around the 1000-1500 mark, and the vehicles from the bigger firms (Nissan, VW, Ford etc) were all quite old, you'd be talking a K or L reg which is getting on a bit now. -

Pickup? 28 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Hi I'm in-between cars and have we just purchased a new house that requires refurbishing. Rather than fill a new car with plasterboard and old bathroom suites I?ve decided to buy a used pickup for up to around £2.5k. Any recommendations, or ones to avoid?
