  I have a 1997 Escort which has a rather nasty stone chip to the heated front screen. I am told that it is not repairable. I am to get the screen replaced on my insurance policy. Can anyone tell me whether this screen is a bonded type or a normal rubber mounted gasket type?

  Do heat reflecting windscreens work ? They seem to be common on Renaults. Does anyone have any experience of a car with and without ? Can a heat reflecting film be applied to existing glass in the same was as tints ?

  These cars have a heat bonded screen and mine is coming away slightly and letting water in. Insurance company  say as there is no crack or chip in the driving vision area its not down to them. This car has just about had a rebuild, smacked by a post office van, front a real mess, scraped by a lorry next, side dented... both no fault...Christmas Day reversed into a wall, my fault.

  Noticed that only half my HFS was working. Spoke to Ford for advice. Took off wipers and windscreen trim at base of screen. Saw the problem. The ribbon like electric connection was broken. Cannot be replaced as one end is bonded to the screen. Can anyone advise with a heath robinson way of connecting the two pieces of ribbon safely and able to make it work again.

  Do heat reflective or 'climate control' coated windscreens really make a significant difference to the interior of a car? BMW claim the interior temperature would be at least 10 degrees lower than outside, and the steering wheel and seats (black leather) won't get so hot.

  the heating on my 5 series (S reg) has just packed up. I think it might be that the fans have failed as even on max I cannot get any airflow from the fans except on front windscreen demister, and even then it is cold The question is, does anyone know if this is likely to be an expensive repair job, or could it be quite simple?

  I am looking to buy a radar speed camera detector, but all sites say that they do not work to well with heat reflecting windscreens. I have a Clio with a heat reflecting windscreen but in the middle of the windscreen at the bottom there is a blank area to put parking tickets etc. i.e this area is a different colour.

  Having just got a second Mondeo in the family, I find driving it especially at night awful because of the heated screen. I could replace the screen with an old non heated one, but am I the only person to find this a problem? It makes the odd scratch on windscreens appear to be a minor problem as these elements are over the entire surface.

  RE heated windscreen...I purchased my car 2 months ago. after driving the car for a couple of weeks in daylight I then drove at night. To my horror the light from oncoming cars, traffic lights and street lights were breaking up into pixels which distorted the view from my windscreen so much that I cannot drive safely at night.

  Hi, I've recently bought a 5 year old focus from a main ford dealership. I've been driving it a week and have discovered 3 heating elements in the rear windscreen don't work and a little rattling noise from the front of the car when travelling on the motorway. do you think it reasonable to take it back for the dealer to remedy these issues??

  Works O.K with steering wheel controls as guide suggests, has anybody experince of either using this unit or fitting etc., noting car has heated front windscreen too (aerial sited in edge of windscreen which is element free) ?  Doesn't feel right to me -:(
