Ford Focus - 2006 Ford Focus 1.8TDCI - 5 SECOND BEEP HELP!! 21 Jun 2019 (Forum)
This beep then omitts exactly every minute, this beep occurs when you have turned the key but not started the engine or with the engine running. Also coincidently there is no sound when you have the lights turned on and open the door (just incase this bares any relevance, both main beam bulbs are out and I have changed the fuses, am hoping that it's just the bulbs!!) -
SUV or MPV - Cheap car/van, SUV or MPV 17 May 2019 (Forum)
Hi, I need a new cheap car/van. I work for myself in art and antiques and currently run a Renault Grand Espace It’s great to use as a van, but also a great family car at weekends. Only problem has been removing, then storing, the putting the VERY heavy rear seats back in again, all the time. -
Ford Focus - Battery still draining on ford focus 2004 22 Jan 2019 (Forum)
Second one pointed to a problem with the central locking system in the drivers door. Part purchased, installed and after much labour expense at two garages, the car seemed to be running fine. Radio reconnected with new fuse and was working fine for around one week. Not been started for a few days over Xmas and back to square one. It's had two new batteries in past 12 months and alternator testing fine. -
Corsa c 1.2 - Vauxhall Corsa c 1.2 coolant loss 22 Jul 2018 (Forum)
It has mayo under the oil cap and the oil is milky colour too. It starts on the button everytime and runs smoothly with no misfires. It does not overheat either. No white smoke out of the exhaust either. Spark plugs all look normal after removing them and inspecting. Heater works fine and engine warms up to normal temperature as usual. -
Nissan Pathfinder - Nissan Pathfinder Head Gasket Gone Again... 16 Jun 2018 (Forum)
The only thing I noted was that having topped up the radiator with some water, after 10 minutes of running at 1500rpm and with the temps Normal, the expansion tank was almost full, on inspecting, there was at least some of the original fluid in there (the coolant was bright orange). Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this? -
Volkswagen Tiguan - Clutch - to replace, or not... 6 Jun 2018 (Forum)
They've quoted something exorbitant to fit a new clutch and DMF, but also say that when they've said the same to other Tiguan owners, the owner has refused their kind offer and often managed another 10k-20k before needing a new clutch!! He only does about 5k miles each year in it (generally longer runs so no DPF worries) and about 50% of that is towing a 2 berth caravan. Given that there are no signs of impending clutch failure (no sign of slipping, even when towing), I reckon I'd leave well alone and keep a watching brief/consider chopping it in over the next year. -
Who knows - Advice on new car please 1 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I have changed my job and have to travel twice the distance I did before meaning that I can no longer afford to run it so I am looking to sell it and get something different. However my shopping list is quite comprehensive and I am struggling to know where to even start so any help or advice will be well received. -
SEAT Alhambra 1.9 2001 - Time to Change 13 Sep 2017 (Forum)
Mileage covered is now only around 8 - 10K per annum l have a budget of between 6 - 8K (perhaps a little more for the right vehicle) Personally, l would like an X5 3 litre diesal, though would not pay £520 road tax after a 55 plate & l know running costs are high. l'm also aware of the swirl flaps issue & the debate over changing gear box oil. The other alternative l like is the Honda CR-V 2.2, though again l have heard of problems with gear change/flywheels etc. -
N/A - Motor Accident Centre 12 Sep 2017 (Forum)
The whys and wherefores are not relevant to this but things were settled in my favour. Because of its age the car was written off,. I brought it back and now run it on a Classic Policy as it is over 20 years old having brought another car for daily use. Out of the blue today I got a call today from the above company on a Manchester (0161) number.Usually scammers are quite obvious by the high level of background noise, lack of any detail and, sometimes, heavy foreign accents. -
Budget camper van or similar 14 Aug 2017 (Forum)
Has anyone dabbled with this and if so, any ideas?. Reliability and simplicity very important, as would be price and running costs. Modern diesel might be out on reliability grounds, not sure. This would be a 3rd car /van, so overall low cost important. Cheers all -
Honda CR-V - Oil Consumption 20 Jul 2017 (Forum)
On checking today I note that the car has used approximately half the tank of oil in just over 3k miles since I bought it (probably a tad more but difficult to be precise). Car is used mostly on motorways and never thrashed though I do regular (weekly) runs of 60 and 90 mile return trips. I bought the car with 20300 miles on and it's just touched 24k miles. I am aware that some cars use a little oil between services but that to me seems a lot. -
Ford Focus - Ford Focus TDDi cut out and won't re start 19 Jul 2017 (Forum)
oh and i did only have a eighth of a tank of fuel roughly......i know i know, no need to tell me i shouldn't be running a diesel so low! -
VW Polo 9N3 - Towing with a Polo 20 Jun 2017 (Forum)
I don't believe the Peugeot was much heavier than the Polo, which itself weighs nearly 1100Kg, but the Polo's engine only develops 70 BHP versus the 90 BHP of the Peugeot. Apparently a VW Polo won the 'Tow-car of the Year' award for a couple of years running, but I can't find any details of this. More likely the 1.9 Tdi in my opinion . . . So - my question. Has anybody any experience of using a Polo to tow a caravan please? Technically, the car/caravan weight ratio is do-able but are there any 'gotcha's?' -
Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 22-04-2017 Part 2 23 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Today I was driving down a narrow, one-way lane when a car driver passed me at speed with only 3 inches to spare, running me off the road. Fortunately for them, I was riding slowly enough to stop and wasn’t injured. I pointed out to one of them that all road users had equal rights to be there and that his car VED was an emissions tax and it didn’t give him the right to intimidate or drive dangerously, and he said “I’m in a car so it’s ok.” -
Financing a car when only paid mileage at work 18 Apr 2017 (Forum)
Or should I be looking at buying a used a car which would offer more flexibility to sell it if my mileage requirements significantly changed? I suppose I could afford to run a decent car whilst the mileage is high but as soon as it drops, I could be up a creek! How have others handled this situation? Currently I am coming to an end of a PCP and have £4K deposit to start something new. -
Ford Mondeo TDCi 2Litre Diesel - ignition fault 24 Mar 2017 (Forum)
This time when I tried the ignition nothing happened at all (no cranking or clicking although dash lit up)...only a run-away whirring noise from the engine that kept going with the key removed (for about 10secs). After cursing for a short while, I tried again and it started...only to stall as soon as the revs went down). -
Volvo V50D 2.00 auto 59 plate 84,000 miles - Unlucky or what? 16 Mar 2017 (Forum)
After exchanging emails with you last year I agreed that the 10 year/100,000 mile recommended for this engines cambelt was optimistic so took your advice and at 70,000 miles/7 years I had them all changed. The car has run perfectly until last week when with virtually no warning it failed. I heard a slight ticking noise and less than 20 seconds later it cut out completely. It was recovered to my local independent Volvo garage who found that the auxillary drive belt pulley had failed. -
Ford Fiesta - Ford Fiesta electrics gone weird (!) 11 Feb 2017 (Forum)
I couldnt turn it off) Then i noticed that the front heated screen button didnt work. Ok... I thought i would give it a run round the block to see if it would clear. No luck but also the following wont work Hazard lights (ignition off or on), Indicators, Rear wiper (although the screen wash jets work), stage one of the front wiper (the intermittent 'makr') and interior light. -
SEAT Ibiza SC - EPC light post service 8 Nov 2016 (Forum)
Took the car home that evening planning to get it back in this week for the above. I was given the car with the engine running and took it home (200m away), however on the two occasions I have attempted to start/drive my car since the service the EPC light has come on post starting up then the engine has died out (first time while still stationary, second time as soon as I pulled out onto the road). -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 24-09-2016 Part 1 25 Oct 2016 (Forum)
As this appears to be a known fault (see all the reports on various sites on the internet) should it have been rectified by VW for free. I felt I had to agree to the cost as the car is off the road and does not run correctly. Have asked the service team about the costs and problem but the man I spoke to knows nothing about the valve, the problems with it, or any comment on the internet as he doesn't read forums.
