Any - Which Classic? 25 Apr 2013 (Forum)
The Triumph motorcycle will remain (long term project taking up little space) but the cars will go. The question is what car to get? I thought I open it to the forum for ideas. Important criteria are:- i) Needs to be automatic ii) Maximum width – 5’ 6” as the lock-up I will be left with is quite narrow iii) Roomy as I am 6’ 2”, 15 stone and have a long back Estimated budget - £5 – 10k depending on what I get for my collection (only one not SORN’d) -
Volkswagen Beetle Cabriolet - DVLA- number plate retention- Royal Mail return 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
Previous documents sent to me by the DVLA, such as reminders for tax discs etc, were second class but I was hoping due to the 10day timescale guideline and important nature of the documents, this may have been sent first class? Please advise- thank you! -
Ford/Mercury/Lincoln - Recommendations? 7 Dec 2012 (Forum)
The Mercedes-Benz I bought earlier this year turned out to be a real dog--beautiful, but enough to make you cry with its problems. Now it's sitting dead with a blown engine--the timing chain broke. Enough of imports, I've had two bad ones in a row. Now I'm looking for something along the lines of a Ford Crown Vic, Lincoln Town Car, Mercury Grand Marquis...but: can all y'all think of something similar that I might be overlooking? -
Isuzu Rodeo - car on N.I plates - need to register in UK? 18 Dec 2010 (Forum)
All MOT's are under this plate etc, however whilst shopping round for insurance on the truck most insurers have a job to find the truck on their systems and they keep telling me it's an import? Do I need to get the truck a 'normal' UK plate or will the NI plate be sufficient? The car has tax etc so is road legal. If I do need to register the truck how do I go about this? Many thanks -
Electric car heaters - will we be warm enough? 10 Jul 2010 (Forum)
There's lots of stuff in the press lately about electric cars, some with fuel engines to charge them up or drive a generator, some without. I've never seen any mention of the heater, though - which for oldish thin me is the most important thing of all for most of the year. A 1000 watt electric motor is quite powerful when it's actually using all thousand of the watts. However, in winter one really needs at least the equivalent of a 1000 watt blow heater for at least the first ten minutes of the journey. -
Air lines 30 Mar 2010 (Forum)
Our local Morrisons has what might kindly be described as an 'eccentic' line (it forgets the set pressure after every tyre and charges 10p per minute for the pleasure). Correct tyre pressure are important, wheel trims make valves dirty and difficult to reach, foot pumps have connectors that both leak and let lots of air out on connecting / disconnecting, so anything that encourages maintaining correct pressures is to be applauded; right? -
Can we change British motoring landscape? 13 Feb 2010 (Forum)
We often discuss some important issues in motoring here - like appalling public transport, high train fare, lack of road manners, speed limit inappropriate for road, incompetent DVLA etc. etc. Mostly we just vent our rant and forget everything soon, till someone again raises the topic. -

Risky alternative routes. 3 Jan 2010 (Forum)
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/8435777.stm "Arthur Littlefair, leader of the Kirkby Stephen team, said many motorists had been "tempted" to use minor roads made dangerous by bad weather because of closures on the A66. He said: "It is really important that motorists are not tempted to use these roads, they have steep sections and quite high passes which are very vulnerable to drifting snow. I guess that alternative routes may be more often used now that SatNav is common. -
No FM/AM by 2012 19 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I just think this is crazy, I'm not sure what is happening on the Continent but are their new cars going to have their FM radios swapped out for DAB ones when they are imported? Looks like I'll have to find another way of listening to Test Match Special while I'm on the move! -
Renault Clio III (2005 - 2009) - 2005 auto - Service intervals and warranty 31 Aug 2008 (Forum)
When we got the documentation we noticed that the service interval is every 12m/18k but the first service wasn't carried out for another 6 months 18m/15k. The 2nd service was 26m/26k. I always thought it was important to carry out the first service on time. Should we worry? -
Volkswagen Passat (2005 - ) - How long did your tyres last? 13 Aug 2008 (Forum)
her main criteria is grip (especially given our inclement weather) and she spends most days trawling up and down our motorway system. Cost is not so important...the lease company will be paying and she has to use ATS. -
Confirming Insurance Details 4 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I had a reminder of just how important it is to check your insurance details today. I'd double checked on the phone when taking the policy out that I'd be covered towing my caravan. The call centre had told me that they'd had to check with their manager, because the caravan (24ft) is slightly longer than their maximum length (23ft). -
Spotted a bargain from a dealer! 17 Feb 2008 (Forum)
I am still wary though after seeing a 18 month Corsa with gudge in the oil filler cap What sort of reasons would a trader sell at the private price, it is difficult to find a private sale selling at the private estimates by What Car? What should I look out for? Import invalidating warranty? Stolen and Recovered? Just Stolen! VIN not same as on registration document Major Crash? Major faults not covered by the Warranty are there any? or perhaps the car doesn't fit in with the sort of car they sell and they want to get rid of it quick? -
What Tyres for a Ford Focus? 4 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Basically, what's the best all-rounder tyre, though I don't want to sacrifice grip, as I think this is easily the most important (and safest) aspect of a tyre. It's just, surely there are quieter... -
Land Rover Discovery (1989 - 1998) - Fuel Economy question please 8 Dec 2007 (Forum)
Young chap at work has a 1994 Disco 3.9 FXI auto ( LHD import ) Could anyone tell us of any known failure items on a vehicle of this model/age, which would cause an increase in its fuel consumtion? Can anyone please offer any suggestions as to what can be done, modifications, re-chipping, re-mapping or after market add-ons etc, etc, which would help to improve the fuel economy? -
Thinking of ending love affair (with Boxster) 20 Nov 2007 (Forum)
I love the image of the car & the way it drives etc but I'm wondering (semi-seriously this time) whether I should quickly part-ex it for an Audi TT 225 (convertible if poss)/ A3 3.2 / Nissan 350z (import) at about 4-5 years old with 40k-60k miles on - question is, will these be more in line with my needs for paranoia-free reliable motoring, or is any performance car at 5 years old likely to throw up expensive issues? -
Estate+roofbox or MPV 6 Jul 2007 (Forum)
I currently have an estate 406 HDI and need more space. I do high milage and long distance driving so economy is important. Would the drag caused by a roof box give lower mileage than say an MPV. My idea would be to take the seats out of an MPV and use it as a van when I need to move stuff. The items to move are not large but its more the quantity that needs to be moved. -
'97 Nissan Mistral - water in footwell? 26 Feb 2007 (Forum)
My dad has a '97 Mistral (Terrano import) and has developed a very soggy carpet in the passenger side footwell. He took it in for service 2 weeks back and the garage poked around and cleared some drainage holes, but this hasn't solved the problem. -
S-Max or Touran Owners 21 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi, I am in the process of changing my car, test driven my options and am now down to 3 possibilities: S-Max 1.8 TDci Titanium X Pack Touran 2.0 Tdi SE DSG Citroen C4 Picasso 1.6 Hdi Exec The citroen is probably too new for you input but if you have an S-Max or Touran diesel, could you please give me an idea on what MPG you get in the real world. I travel approx 40,000 miles per year so economy is important. Most of my driving is at a constant 70MPH on motorways, long journeys. All input most welcome Thanks
