  VW has announced UK prices for RHD Beetle Cabriolets, and they start at a reasonable £15,395 for the 102PS 1.6 16v. To demonstrate the benefits of winter tyres Volvo fitted one front-wheel drive V40 with them and left another on summer tyres, then drove them in turn up a snow covered ski-slope. The car on summer tyres barely made it past the five metre mark while the car on winter tyres made it right to the top.

  Chrysler has announced that European production of its exciting Crossfire coupe is to commence at the Karmann works in Germany in early 2003, and right hand drive imports to the UK are scheduled for late 2003. The car is powered by a longitudinally front-mounted 3.2 litre 90 degree V6 18 valve engine with a single cam for each bank. Power output is 160kW (215bhp) with 310Nm (229 lb ft) torque. Transmissions are a six-speed manual or a five-speed electronically controlled adaptive automatic, with drive to the rear wheels.

  To add a bit more sizzle to its sausage, Audi waited a year and introduced the upmarket 90, powered by a characterful five-cylinder engine and distinguishable from the 80 by its one-piece plastic rear panel and front indicators that were moved from alongside the headlamp lenses to the front bumper, next to the now standard fog lamps.  With a choice of 2.0 and 2.2-litre engines with two valves per cylinder, developing 113bhp and 134bhp respectively, the 90 still wasn’t quick, but it was peppier than the four-cylinder models, with a free-revving nature and seductive soundtrack.   The 90 was available as both a front-wheel-drive or Quattro 4WD-equipped model, the latter identifiable by its side graphics and slightly raised ride height.  In 1989, Audi gave the 90 a bit more poke with a new 2.3-litre 20-valve turbo engine, developing 170bhp and finally giving the car the vigour it deserved.

  1962 ASTON MARTIN DB4 SERIES IV VANTAGE Notable as the first Aston Martin design on which the word "Vantage" was used to signify a distinct model, the DB4 Series IV Vantage was only in production between March and October 1962. One of just 45 cars made (and therefore rarer than a DB4 GT), chassis DB4/952/R has the further distinction of being the first customer car. As well as a 'big valve', triple SU carburettor fed Special Series engine, its generous specification included a DB4GT instrument panel, overdrive, limited-slip differential and heated rear screen.
