  car wont go into 1st gear....i've already posted this and tried the advice from honest john of going into 2nd gear then first and that didnt work...........however at the weekend with an assistant who was operating the gear shift while engine was shut down i could shift the linkage by hand in the engine compartment into 1st...although a bit sticky it went in no problem..i didnt try it with engine running.....but it still wont go into 1st while driving...all other gears are ok....any advice would be appreciated.

  Two tips for freeing off Citigo (and up! and Mii) seized back brakes (JB, Kendal): 1) Make sure the car can't run away - in gear with engine off and / or someone in the driver's seat applying the footbrake - then put a socket extension on the hub through an aperture in the wheel and tap with a hammer - twang!  You will hear the brakes release.

  But there's been no black smoke, no 'burning oil' just an occasional slight smell of hot oil when I get out at the end of a run. I wondered today if it might be escaping via the rocker cover. If you look at the picture, https://www.flickr.com/photos/30658292@N06/? you can see that one of the securing bolts is oily, whereas the others are dry?

  Now I know for a fact he is very particular about his cars and doesn't scrimp on a penny so I know the history of the car is good. My question is would this be a good buy for £15000 if I intend to run it to around 100k? Is there anything I need to be weary of and are these good cars? Cheers Danny

  I do have an option to get a company car but no choice on what it is with only a bottom end Insignia or Astra available. My question is do we get a cheap run about and keep the van or is it worth paying the the tax etc for a company car? Very difficult to find information on the net regarding this situation, others must have faced it. Rich

  I have a running issue with my daughters 2006 (old shape) Corsa 1.2 SXI. I'm using a Foxwell diagnostic and its showing a MAF sensor reading of 0.00 at idle rising to 0.01 at 2000rpm. Foot to the floor in 3rd up slight hill, its showing 0.03 maybe 0.04 LBS.

  hi guys having starting troubles the car kept cutting out on me when driving traced it to crank shaft censor dosent cut out on me anymore but now when i go out to start it it start perfect will run all day until i turn it off then it will not start for hours even if i start it first thing it starts if i then turn off after a few seconds it takes a few turns of key to start again any help would be great its astra van 1.7ctdi 05 plate ecotec engine

  hi guys any ideas on this one : 2003 1400 fiesta 38k on clock just had new water pump, cam belt , thermastat after recent overheating in heavy traffic, car running fine not overheating, but my concern is the coling fan never seems to come on. any ideas guys , i checked my haynes manual , not many clues other than sensor unit on engine block , apparently fan is controlled by ecu ?

  I get a flashing coil light on my dash if: I leave the car stationary with engine running,  after exactly 40 seconds it comes on with Engine Fault -  Workshop Or If I drive the car for longer no fault message but as soon as the revs drop below 10k revs it comes on.

  The sound only happens again when moving off in 1st. It also happens again when I labour the engine (below 1500rpm). I'm running the car on v-power so I don't think it's engine knock.

  The only small problem I have is that, when the car is warm, and usually after ticking over for a minutes or so, it stalls when I attempt to pull away.  It always starts and runs fine immediately I turn the key again. Thanks

  Hi Guys, I have an intermittant amber warning (Engine malfunction) which does not show on restart. I have no fault codes appearing when interrogating the ECU and the engine runs normally whether the fault indication is present or not. The only thing that does not make sense is the feedback from the manifold pressure sensor when the engine is static. The reading is -0.8Hg.this is a significant vacuum reading with engine at a standstill.

  We have a Toyota Corolla Verrso 2005 automatic 1.8cc vvti t3 s-a petrol. 7 seater. It has 97k on the clock & runs very very well with no sign of oil leaks anywhere. No smoking, heating head gasket looks fine. No blue smoke. Me & the garage are at a loss. In 10 days over 310 miles have lost half litre of oil.

  I spent the afternoon spraying bilt hamber dynax UB with a Sealey SG18 spray gun.  It was mainly a practice run for me to see how well the gun works with the Dynax UB wax. I think it could be better if I had either stood the wax in a bucket of hot water for some time before or maybe thinned it down a little but, overall the gun sprayed it fairly well and it didn't drip despite me putting it on a bit thick in places.

  Treated myself to 2 new front tyres before our predicted "bad winter" as tread down to less than 3mm, and the original fitting kumhos have developed cracks between the treads Car still as boringly efficient as ever. 45 mpg local and 50 on a run, with no dpf/egr etc. Bought tyres online 195/55/17 Avon zv5  from F1 autocentre here in Colchester, Used voucher code found on vouchercode site and tyres were a mere £113.81 for 2 fitted and balanced and quicly done.

  I need a compact estate (2 kids and a dog) my spec is: £5k max Auto Diesel 2007 onwards 100k or less mileage I've narrowed it down to a 2007 C220 Cdi & a 2009 V50. I'd like some input on which might be the better choice regarding overall reliability, running costs etc. I have experience with the Merc - my last car being a C200. Thanks in advance

  Mondeo ST220 - idle speed normally 800 revs, however during quickish use, tick-over speed can vary between 1000 - 1500 revs. Car continues to run @ this tick over rate as if on cruise control so for example, you cannot do 30 mph in 6th gear without constant braking. Temporary solution is to pull over and switch off via the key, re-start and the idle / tick over speed immediately returns to normal @ 800 revs.

  My 2010 A3 tfsi has covered 56000 miles, the engine uses very little oil. I'd like to keep the car for a couple more years. Would it be worth running on premium petrol, would this reduce carbon build up on the valves or would it have little effect as the fuel doesn't pass through/over the valves to clean them anyway? Also is there much difference between ESSO Supreme and Shell V Power and could you switch between the two if one wasn't available?

  I'm looking for an Estate car to travel round europe in this winter/next year. I am after a diesel and i have a budget of £3000. I have given google a run for its money with questions and i have come up with some options. Volvo V50  Volvo v70 Saab 9-5 It needs to be comfortable and lots of space. When i am not globe trotting in it my wife will be driving it 30 miles a day to work.
• Ford Fiesta - Problems starting when cold or wet and slowing dow 2 Apr 2015 (Forum)
  It also cuts out when slowing down at junctions and again only starts up if I turn ignition and Rev engine at same time. Once it's been running a while it doesn't cut out when slowing down. Any idea what this could be? Thanks
