  • Swift Opinion? 30 Apr 2006 (Forum)
We now want to replace it with something a bit smaller (kids left home), but are not keen on the Polo despite being long time VW drivers. We have had a look at the Suzuki Swift and like what we see. We had a very brief test drive and it seems to go well enough and is comfortable and spacious for a small car. Does anyone own one of these cars and, if so, what is your opinion of them? Thanks. Ashley.
  • Renault Clio 1.2 "Serv" light 11 Apr 2006 (Forum)
I cannot figure out from the user guide for my 2002 Clio "Authentique" if the "Serv" dash light comes on just to indicate impending doom, or whether it also comes on to indicate the service interval is due. I've been driving the car for over a year, and although I only do a very low milage the only time it has come on during this time was the result of a low oil level (which I fixed myself ;)). Can anyone enlighten me?
  • Premium fuel == con? 10 Apr 2006 (Forum)
My dad filled his 2.0 Daewoo Leganza up with BP Ultimate Unleaded as an experiment prior to driving down from Manchester a few days ago. A trip he usually does on 3/4 of a tank this time involved him nearly having to stop at a service station to get more petrol. He's not impressed, and since this was a good 5p more expensive, the journey cost him a lot more than usual too!
  • Corolla headlamp bulbs 26 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Bought new Philips extra light bulbs.Difficult to fit drivers side, impossible on passenger side.Took car to garage, was told that Toyota knew of the problem and advise bumper removal to get access.Charged £44-very fair. After driving in dark lights were seriously out of focus.Garage reports plastic of bulb holder melted.Toyota knew of the problem and would replace a modified plastic headlamp under warranty-very fair.So if you want to avoid a lot of hassle think carefully before fitting extra light bulbs.GERIATRIC.
  • New Passat 1.6 FSI 16 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Hello, I am considering buying a new passat. I only do about 25 miles a day, and drive mostly in traffic so performance is not really a big issue hence I was considering the 1.6. I have been looking around and cant find any specifc reviews on the 1.6 so wondered if anybody had either seen a review, or had better still driven the 1.6 and could pass comment on if the 1.6 is really just enough, or is not really man enough for the job
  • Focus or Golf ? 12 Mar 2006 (Forum)
I don't need anything so big and have narrowed down the choice to Focus TDCI 2.0 or VW Golf GT TDi . I shall be test driving them over the next couple of weeks, but they seem very closely matched in all the reviews I've seen. The VW would cost me a touch more. It boils down to personal preference of course but what would you all do ?
  • Fiat Punto! 24 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Have a query if any of you guys can give us some advice I would be much appreciated. I have 99 Fiat Punto S (60000 Miles)which broke down on the motorway. I was happily driving along when all of a sudden I could not accelerate anymore. As I moved to hard shoulder my car cut out. I was towed to my local garage and he is looking it at it as we speak. Any suggestions with what he might come up with?
  • Suggestions for a car with £2500 12 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I am getting a car as my wife and I are expecting a child and it will be used to ferry mother and child around and also the odd weekend drive (100 miles or more). We require large boot space for pram and luggage (hence an estate). My priorities for the vehicle are safety (for child), reliability, value for money and cheap maintenance and insurance.
  • Parking, Stansted airport 11 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The flight there in particular is at 6.50 in the morning and it may be difficult to get to the airport in time. Normally I would drive, but a look at the parking section in the Stansted airport website seemed to show that 12 days in the long-term car park there would cost well over £100. Does anyone have a technique for getting round this?
  • Upgrading car audio - difficult for DIY? 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
The speaker driver-units in my Octavia must have cost about 50p by the sound of them - rather tinny ! I can source the drive-units easily enough from Dynaudio - presumably just a question of getting units of the same diameter ....
  • Range Rover cuts out 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Leave it for ten minutes or so and it will start and run normally. It only seems to happen when it's been working hard for a bit. With normal gentle driving it seems ok. I definitely think it's temperature related. Any ideas?
  • Fiesta cutting out 31 Jan 2006 (Forum)
had a look at a few of the older pages all seem to tell me how to start it but not fix it. Problem bein car starts first time, then every couple of weeks will cut out when driving for no apparent reason. it turns over as normal cuts out on start. I am assuming its somethin fuel related not the pump as it seems fine. im thinkin maybe the carb, plugs are only a few month old so not them neither, its a 1995 1.1 azura if that helps cheers guys
  • 1991 BMW 525 Auto Gearbox Problem 4 Jan 2006 (Forum)
I have recently purchased a BMW 525i auto as a bit of a project. Problem is it drives as though its stuck in one gear (3rd I think) and is very slow on pick-up and sounds as though the automatic clutch is slipping. Also the wee message display below the speedo reads TRANS something and to refer to the owners manual... very handy... if you actually have one!!
  • Where is a Mercedes made 24 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I heard that South African Mercs were less good for reliability and built quality, especially in terms of paint and possible rust? Thanks -- Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?
  • badge snobbery 24 Dec 2005 (Forum)
They should be given more credit. A friend of mine has a Skoda Fabia vrs tdi - what a car. Superb build quality and great to drive. A lot of people buy the Audi A3. I don't know why. They're identical cars. They tend to think the badge is more better. Well they're the fools for thinking that. {More editing to include some punctuation.
  • Opel Vectra DI 2000 21 Dec 2005 (Forum)
I have a problem with my vectra TD. From cold things are ok Once up to temperature driving normally is fine. If you have to stop for a light the engine light comes on and power is severly reduced. This could be very interesting at a junction or roundabout. The car is underpowered for maybe 15 20 seconds then seems to normalise.
  • Petrol Inyer Diesel 19 Dec 2005 (Forum)
There's an RAC ad that warns not to even start your car if you accidently put unleaded in you diesel car, but it doesn't tell you why or how your car would run if you did drive off and goes on to warn you of horrific costs for repairs. I wonder if they are being a bit alarmist here. I would have thought that it depends on what percentage of petrol you have mixed in the diesel already in the tank, but I'm not an expert on the matter.
  • Fuel comparison tests 15 Dec 2005 (Forum)
They used a Golf GTI and a BMW M5 and did rolling road tests to get power/torque figures, and on-road "driving feel" tests. Makes quite interesting reading. I know they did a similar thing on Fifth Gear recently, but I missed it. Has anyone seen a similar tests to these conducted on diesel fuels, I would like to see if they get similar findings?
  • Incorrect use of foglights, it's global! 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
It seems everyone is at it, foglights blazing in clear weather, sidelight and foglight combos etc. In Japan, the manufacturers all seem to be adopting very large low slung "driving lights" as standard. They look like large foglights to me, and certainly dazzle oncomers. It seems the incorrect use of these lights isn't restricted to the UK but has now become a worldwide fashion.
  • M3 reduced permanently to 2 lanes.... 13 Dec 2005 (Forum)
On my frequent journeys on the M3 I have noticed that it has been reduced to 2 lanes. The inside lane has been banned from use and is never occupied , you can drive for miles and never see anyone in it yet the other two lanes are mayhem with nose to tail drivers flashing each other... presumably with seasons greetings. I have seen no road signs closing the inside lane or read anything in the papers..have other motorways been similarly effected?
