. If what you're after, however, is a thoroughly lovely, well-maintained and low-mileage modern classic, then stay on the line. It might not be the most desirable spec or colour, but this looks like a fabulous car, with an average of fewer than 5000 miles a year over its 21-year life, full service history and superb bodywork. We also have a nostalgic fondness for those brushed alloy base model wheels, which tend to be one of the first things to go as BMWs get older and fall into the 'wrong' type of ownership. -

One of the modern-day joys of owning an Austin Seven is the ready availability of moderately priced spare parts, making a Seven one of the easiest pre-war cars to own. The National Rally has been held annually in the grounds of Lord Montagu’s estate for 54 consecutive years and is organised by the 750 Motor Club. The event is open to all Austin Seven owners regardless of whether or not they are 750 club members and entries come from all over the UK and Europe. Austins form the core of the event, but pre-1975 vehicles of all makes are invited to attend and will have a designated parking area on the rally field. -

It marks the the second consecutive fuel price increase in two months and adds another £1.45 to the cost of filling up a 55-litre family car. The average price of petrol increased from 105.6p to 108.2p-per-litre in April, while diesel jumped from 105.4p to 108.1p-per-litre. Rising global oil prices have been blamed for the price hike, with the cost of a barrel of oil increasing by 25 per cent in April. -

Peugeot widens its young person apprentice scheme 17 Mar 2016 (News)
Currently boasting 300 young apprentices in Coventry based PSA Academy, the programme offers training in a number of disciplines including servicing, sales, parts, customer service and administration – not just mechanics-based roles, in other words. The scheme covers all PSA car brands, comprising Peugeot, Citroen and DS Automobiles, and apprenticeships last anything up to three years. A Level 2 NVQ is awarded at the end of training, while those that qualify will achieve a Level 3 on the job. -
Big rise in money-saving ‘black box’ insurance policies 15 Mar 2016 (News)
The so-called ‘black box’ policies require a driver to fit telematics to their car, which can monitor driving habits including speed, frequency of travel, distance of travel, and even cornering velocity. The data is analysed to determine who are the safest drivers, and the insurance policy discounted accordingly. -

Research from the RAC shows that of 48,664 claims for pothole-related car damage submitted to UK councils in 2014, less than a quarter lead to any compensation. 23 per cent (11,184) of the claims submitted lead to compensation, which amounted to a total of £3.2m – an average pay out of £286 for each successful claim. -

Continental teams up with Mercedes-Benz to offer free winter driver training 20 Oct 2014 (News)

Continental Tyres claims there is a huge lack of awareness in the UK about winter tyres, with its research identifying that nearly half (47 per cent) of motorists are unaware that winter tyres even exist. The free winter driver training will let motorists experience two cars through a slalom on a simulated icy track. One fitted with Continental summer tyres and the other with Continental winter tyres, providing first-hand experience with the notable difference in stopping distance. -
