hi everyone, i have an S reg 1.9TD that has 107k on the clock, just had a service and belt around 5k ago, only owned the car for 2 months, it has got progressively worse for juddering/struggling at around 2500rpm and upwards, there seems to to a lack of fuel, air or something when you put you foot down and it goes over the 2500 mark.
  • Fiat Punto Mia - Power Steering Failure 10 Oct 2010 (Forum)
A certain H****’s manual said how difficult it was to remove the steering motor. I took the plastic cover off the steering column, four bolts, a small socket set removed a further 3 bolts and the motor dropped out, very easy, 10 minutes work.

  • How do I reset my 2004 Ford Fiesta's immobiliser? 5 Aug 2010 (Ask HJ)
My 2004 Ford Fiesta 04 Flame 1.4's battery has died, so I tried to jump-start the car and a red padlock light started flashing and the car wouldn't start....
  • Volkswagen Golf V - Petrol or diesel 29 Jul 2010 (Forum)
I certainly get less miles on the clock for my money.   The 1.6FSi has 114 lb-ft of torque compared to the 323's 105 - too close to call? My assumption is that for the 2.0 petrol FSi, I'm looking at similar prices to the 2.0 TDi? I hope to live with the car for a good 5 years.

Also, if anyone has any experience of real world mpg I'd be interested to hear. My daily 50 mile commute is mostly sub 70 dual carriageway so I'd hope for high 30's?? cheers!
  • Are all Mercedes-Benz C-Class models susceptible to ECU failures, or just the C200? 9 Jun 2010 (Ask HJ)
I am thinking of buying a Mercedes-Benz - a 1998 C240 has caught my eye. I know this site says that the ECU can go after 12 years. Is this only with the...
  • Nissan Micra (2003 - 2010) - Multi Quote Car Insurance Woes 14 Feb 2010 (Forum)
A phone call to one of the direct companies got a rather odd response along the lines of: ?Use the manual car?s details. I have checked with the underwriter who says that will be ok?! Now unless this is in writing I intend to ignore the comments, but have the backroom folks got any ideas on how I can get their car listed so that the correct quotes are provided?
  • Diesels falling apart 14 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Last month we had a Vectra 1.9 D (2005 or 6, can't remember) engine totally AWOL at 100k (it was a taxi) and a similar age Mondeo TDCI with broken up fuel pump at 60k. No wonder there are some cheap s/hand cars about. My little bit of advice to diesel owners - longlife servicing WRECKS your car. Current oil and filter technology is not up to 20k changes. I'm seeing lots of cars (mostly diesels) on LL servicing with expensive faults.
  • pointless travelling 1 Dec 2009 (Forum)
His company would have got the work as they were cheapest . So there we have it, pure folly , man does 1000's of miles when a local alternative was priced out. Driving a cherry picker from London to the Wester Isles. World gone crazy
  • San Francisco - Experience 16 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Cars are not really welcome in the city, hence usurious parking fees. Still can't ween some of them off their big thirsty V8's Walked some of the hills featured in Bullit. Flipping steep! more so than it looks on film (Russian Hill/Fillbert/Mason/Chestnut streets)
  • Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1996 Rear Suspension Corrosion 29 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Looks like a complete rear suspension-off job to fix. It's quite a surprise when the bodywork is in such good nick - 106's don't seem to rust where you can see it..... Has anyone else found the same - or worse?
  • Scrappage scheme problem 10 Sep 2009 (Forum)

  • Modern Dash's, any need for the clutter? 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
, I really struggle to see anything on the dash and find it quite of putting, as I have to look down these ?pipes? just to see anything ? I like a dash that?s clear and well laid out, it just seems that everything is squashed together (warning/information lights on the dials them selves obscured by the needles) the smallest temp and fuel gauges and everything at the end of a tube, all in the name of design The fiat Bravo (Brava??)
  • The modern non motorist and the `sealed` bonnet 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I wonder how many cars are making it to two years and 20,000 miles without opening the bonnet and whether bonnet hinges ever seize and snap off at service time? What a triumph though for anyone who`s actually succeeded at never doing anything but drive and yet sold it on at the same price as us regular checkers. Even more so if there wasn`t a trace of worry in doing that.

  • Ford Transit (2006 - ) - Bad Mechanic, what now? 27 Aug 2009 (Forum)
ve bought shoes, fit kit and cylinder and he said he will come back and rectify the work. He has not been seen since, and isn?t answering his phone; he has the keys and has been paid. He?s not admitted responsibility but I fail to see how it couldn?t be his fault. What do I do now?
  • Re-taxing a SORNed bike? 6 Aug 2009 (Forum)
t respond because I had just sold my Suzuki in a fit of pique after forgetting to declare SORN whilst the bike was laid up in the garage over winter. I didn?t mention that our garage housed my 1958 Triumph T21 ? last ridden in 1976, and my son?s SORNed 1988 Yamaha RXS100. When I suggested to a bike-mad friend that I would sell the Triumph, he was adamant that we should get it going again (this will no doubt appear on another thread at some time in the future!)
  • Mercedes Benz C-Class W203 (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.2 loss of power,jerking,smoking and hissing . 5 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hello ALL I just got a 2001 w203 merc that's done 169000miles.All was fine until i first noticed recently on a highway that i couldn't accelerate well enough to overtake or go above 135k.For a while this was only on long distances, but recently, the car gives off a bit too much smoke and any attempts at intant accelaration gives off a screeching and hissing noise, intermittent jerks and the engine feels like its stiffled. There 's been no check engine sign and replacing the MAF,fuel filter or decarbonating the air circuit has not helped so far(though we got out huge lumps of accumulated soot). We've also not been able to diagnose any engine faults.Did i mention the awful black smoke from the exhaust??
