  • Car insurance with foreign driving licence 13 Feb 2019 (Forum)
I will definitely need a car and accordingly I checked the car market and figured out that buying a car wouldnt be a problem, but getting cheap car insurance will be. I have 9 years no claims discount and have no penalties for speeding or driving convictions on my german drivers license, but insurance companies in the UK dont seem to take that into consideration. They just put me on a basic level as if I wouldnt have any driving experience, thus all quotes are terrificly high.

  • Avensis 2010 diesel - Avensis 2010 diesel. Faulty "EDU drive"?! 26 Mar 2015 (Forum)
My avensis had the engine warning light come on three days ago as well as the parking brake fault. Noticed straight away that I had lost a lot of power when accelerating. Now feels like I'm driving a 1l corsa or something similar. Brought it to the local Toyota garage and they have diagnosed a "faulty EDU drive" and said it will be upwards of a thousand euro for the part and labour. Basically I'd love to know if anyone has any experience or info on this.

  • Seller Erase Error Codes before test drive? 28 Jan 2015 (Forum)
I dont see the point of the buyer taking a diagnostic code reader to the car that he/she will view/test drive when the seller can erase the codes from the car before the buyer turns up. Can a test drive bring the error code/s back? If not how does the buyer is sure that the car is error free before spending lots of money?
  • VW Golf Mk6 2010 1.4tsi dsg 26k - DSG Judder on 1st/2nd gear in drive 8 May 2014 (Forum)
The golf drives really well apart from take off in drive after a  run of @ 10miles, there is a judder between first and second gear, which is really annoying. Has anyone else had this problem and if so what was the cure.

  • Mazda 3 - Mazda 3 (Previous) 16 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I have had one before but hadn’t driven it to the extent that I drove this one. What a great car this is to drive, the steering, the handling, the gearchange and ride are all excellent. I regularly drive a Focus for work and I can honestly say that the Mazda is at least on a par with the Ford from a driving enjoyment point of view.
  • Any - Replacement car 8 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Budget wise it needs to be in the region of £12 £13 k,either new or nearly new . It needs to be a smallish petrol automatic ,with a high driving position ,she's in her 80s and surprisingly still enjoys driving .But has difficulty getting out of a conventional car . The insurance company have loaned her a 2012 fiesta auto which seems a good little car to drive ,but its seating position is to low .
  • Ford Fiesta - Drive Assist claiming damage to loan car. 24 Nov 2012 (Forum)
My daughter was lent a car by Drive Assist whilst her car was being repaired after her car was hit behind at a junction. It's just been picked up by Drive Assist as her car has now been repaired and, after an  inch by inch inspection the guy collecting the car claimed there was damage to an alloy and the cost would be £75.
  • Any point in reporting bad driving? 9 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Three weeks ago I reported some truly wild driving on the A34 to the Hampshire Constabulary, not expecting anything in return. Today I received a personal letter concerning the "alleged bad driving", the key points being: * The information has been recorded because I was able to supply the full registration number
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso - citroen xsara picasso juddering in gears 29 Feb 2012 (Forum)
hi, i've just bought a citroen xsara picasso, 06 plate, 1.6 petrol. it's done 34,000 miles and is an ex mobility car. the problem i have is as i'm coming down the gears the car seems to judder or kagaroo. it is as if the car wants to stall and the only way to stop it is dip the clutch. for instance if you drive in 3rd gear then let your foot off the throttle it only takes a second before the car starts to judder??? never had a citroen before so i'm wondering if they are high geared and i have to adjust my driving style (a driving style thats been fine for the last 13 cars i've owned) or is it a clutch or drive shaft problem?
  • Will I be allowed to retake my driving test? 27 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I'm not very confident driving (even though I have a full licence) and would like to retake my driving test to see if I could pass and hopefully get better. Would I be allowed to do this, as it's surely a sensible thing to do if I'm feeling low on confidence, and I definitely want to do more than just having some refresher lessons and a mock test.
  • Vauxhall Astra E - Temperature Gauge Going up and DOWN while driving 17 Nov 2010 (Forum)
While driving my Temp Gauge goes from zero upto just over 80 and then drops back down to just above the two white notches at the bottom (far left) of the gauge. It keeps going up and down like this while I'm driving.
  • Driving test. 11 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Well, yesterday I had driving test again. Last test was 37 years ago. I went for a hackney carriage / licensed hire test at the local DSA test centre. Basically its the standard driving test with added taxi type manouvres (lots of turning round in the road, and pulling up at the side of the road, with taxi type questions at the end) I did no swotting up, and just booked and went blind.
  • Driving Fatigued 2 Nov 2009 (Forum)
Scenario: It?s been a long day, its dark and you have been driving for an hour on the motorway. You are feeling increasingly fatigued but your destination is only 30 minutes away. How would you react/ deal with this situation? How long have you been a driver?
  • Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - Wheel bearing possibly worn. Safe to drive? 26 Oct 2009 (Forum)
I have a 98 VW Golf estate and I think the wheel baring has gone because I get a humming noise from the back wheels when i'm driving and last time this happened it was the wheel baring. Unfortunatly I can't afford to have it replaced for another 3 weeks and in that time i'll need to drive 1500 miles (roughly 100 miles a day) to and from work.
  • Drving synergy. 3 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Tuesday after lunch I had a very tedious trip to a friend's house, it was blasting down with rain, but something in my soul told me that the drive was going to be different. Twenty eight miles, 30 minutes along a mix of rural single and an arterial dual carriageway, nothing special, a trip I've done a hundred times recently. Not the most of inspiring of drives in an uninspiring SUV in horrid weather.
  • Drive way fine in petty Britain 30 Jun 2009 (Forum)
If that is the case, I'd be tempted to drive a vehicle up and down that bit of so called highway. Bet the council would have something to say about that as well. The whole exercise smacks of pure out and out money making.
  • Driving home for Christmas 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
...or driving to visit someone and back home afterwards. So what rarely undertaken journeys are forum members going on this festive season? Is that drive half-way across the county, or country, to visit friends or relations something to look forward to or dread?
