Buying a second hand automatic 20 Jan 2020 (Forum)
I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice on a automatic that fits these requirements: Around £8k 2014 minimum Reasonable MPG Reasonable running costs Focus sized Not too bothered about gadgets, although parking sensors and cruise control would be nice So far I'm liking the look of a 2014(ish) Civic but I was wondering what else might be worth a look? -
"DPF fluid is low, fill up" - Peugeot 508 Woes 6 Jan 2020 (Forum)
£180 Ive the whole printout Tonight a local mechanic does a diagnostic to find NO error codes but the following for the tank, P1445, P15B3 and P1446 which indicate a filling issue but he has never seen them before but he states the DPF is NOT blocked Another source informs me the tank weighs itself to monitor how much DPF fluid is in the tank and this could be an issue... Feeling pretty hacked off.... car is now on 110k and has run perfect ti it was filled up on saturday, it seems the opening of the filler cap triggers a dose of fluid into the fuel.. -
Citroen cx - Paint and carburettor 10 Dec 2019 (Forum)
She won’t idle below 1500 rpm (if the Rev counted is to be believed) and has a habit of cutting out when not under load - say breaking for a roundabout with the clutch in. All the carb bits have been renewed - gasket, float etc. I did accidentally run the tank dry - perhaps taking it off and soaking it for a day or so is something that’s been suggested. All ideas on both fronts welcome. -
Mercedes-Benz C-Class Coupe - Mercedes C320 2001 Suddenly lost power in drive 20 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Have a Mercedes C320 which went through MOT problem free about a month ago and had a full service on 22/6/19 and new tyres. All running smoothly until left for holiday yesterday. Sounded a bit "whirry" - like a high powered sewing machine - when turned on and ran ok for about 15 miles, then suddenly lost all power. The engine revved but there was no drive. -
Yaris, Jazz, Kia, Hyundai - Best economical hatchback, urban driving, £3k 17 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Which make and model do you recommend for urban driving and daily school runs? Economy isi a priority but also a roomy space for kids car seats- we currently have a 1.0 litre Jazz 2003 model, unhappy with the gears, and find engine cuts out regularly, but this is probably irrelevant as I didn't know how to do proper checks when buying it a few months ago. -
Your car - Why no discussion of what the EU has planned 9 Mar 2019 (Forum)
Couple of things it's going to be based on GPS and the mapping is far from accurate where limits are concerned. Second let's say your on a motorway running alongside a minor road. You could find yourself unable to exceed 30mph as the system thinks you are on the minor road. I am not comfortable giving up control. Even if we do manage to Brexit we'll still end up getting this imposed on us. -
vw polo 1.2 2003 - high co emissions 8 Mar 2019 (Forum)
I have read that a faulty PCV valve can cause problems and would like to know the location of this on the car.I have found what I think is the vavle but need to be sure. Also a pipe that runs to this has also been replaced due to it leaking and I noticed that when started the small flexible rubber piece of this pipe gets sucked in or collapsed.I have read that this is a sign of a faulty valve. -
Ford Fiesta Mk4 facelift 1.25LX year 2000 - Intermittent electrical wire problem 20 Feb 2019 (Forum)
A new pump was fitted via a hole that was cut under the n/side rear side pan. The car now starts and runs fine but now the fuel gauge indicated zero ( it has half a tank ) I know the new pump had a combined fuel float device. When I take the reaar seat out and give the 5 pin ford connecter a wriggle the fuel gauge comes to life again, but not for long. -
Small Car - Big Person 27 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Clocking up over 20k pa in an A4 Allroad, I had the bright idea of saving some money and buying a second small car for the daily commute (3 x 40 minute journeys per day), and keeping the Audi for long journeys/snow and ice (I live in rural Aberdeenshire) thus saving on running costs and prolonging its life before replacement (currently approx 85k on the clock). So looking for small/medium car (manual if possible) In theory price is not important except that the point of this is to save a bit of money so the overall cost/mile is the most significant factor (within limits). -
Renault Espace 2.2 DCi - cutting out 19 Sep 2018 (Forum)
When it cuts out on the motorway you can turn the ignition off then back on immediately then the car runs fine again, but try & accelerate heavily it just cuts out. When the car cuts out & I turn it back on the instrument service panel says 'OK'. The engine does not smoke prior to cutting out, the car has just done 117,000 miles (with full dealer service history) without any previous problems. -
Vauxhall Vectra - 1.8 petrol engine problems 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
It may be that I would have to cnsider trading the car in , or something. But I don't really want to have to do this. The car runs well, otherwise, has been serviced properly and regularly, and is in very good condition all round. By the way, the mechanic tested the head gasket which is fine. Regards -
VW Polo 1.2 Hatch 1.2 - Misfire on cylinder, ignition coil? 13 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Hi, So after a sudden drop in power and running really rough. I got my codes up and Cylinder 1 was misfiring. I suspected a coil or spark plug had gone, so to test the coils first, I reset the code changed the coil 1 with 3. The car still ran rough but now Cylinder 3 is misfiring, now I have the part which I consider faulty, I decided to try this 'faulty' coil on the cylinder 2. -
Lexus LS430 - Driving to Europe in an old large engine Lexus 4.3 24 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Apart from getting the warning triangle, breathalysers, spare bulbs and high visibility jacket... Would there be anything else that is required? Or any precautions? Or any areas to avoid? Running through a last minute checklist as below MOT- Yes Recent service -Yes Insurance-Yes Breakdown cover-Yes Lights -working Any areas I should avoid. The old gal does cough and splutter occasionally(at times a high pitched whine when started, but I switch if off and then restart, for some reason the whine disappears ) but I’m hoping to get back without being stuck on a French road with an unsympathetic French plod muttering at me in a language I can’t understand. -
Ford Fiesta 2006, 1.25L, Petrol - Underside panel fell off 7 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Bit hard for me to describe this without using a photo - but I'll try: A straight piece of plastic trim that runs along the width of the car, curved inwards at both ends came loose and fell off. It was directly under the front body panel bumber, with the curved ends connecting the bottom front of one wheel arch to the other. -
Nissan Xtrail sport 2002 - Intermittent electrical fault 3 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Taking the car back the problem persisted and after checking online we thought it might be the cam sensor and crank sensor so returned to the garage and had these replaced. The car did seem to run much better afterwards but within a day it was back to jerky movements as if fuel starvation and again stalling when slowing down. The garage have given up thinking of what it could be as it's so difficult to detect when it doesn't do it all the time and they've not come across it before. -
Preheating car on chilly morns 2 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I wonder why the manufacturers don't have something similar built into cars for colder climes ? https://recombu.com/cars/article/pre-heat-your-car-in-winter-without-running-the-engine Are the newer cars still chilly first thing on a cold day? I've, as you'd expect have botched my own. This is just a quick test... https://ibb.co/b0YL5G Must admit it makes a huge difference, the car is goes from 0C to 25C, in 20 mins and stays toastie until the car's own air heater warms up to take over...abouyt 10 mins I may put an outside mains supply, on the wall IP66 and use a caravan type electric socket fitted into the car's bumper ...just to confuse the neighbours into thinking I have a hybrid peugeot 1.1 1997 model :) https://www.toolstation.com/shop/Electrical/d190/IP66+Rated/sd3138/IP66+2+Gang+Socket/p78539 http://www.germaninnovation.org/shared/content/news/large/D98918DD-2977-E411-9B90-000C29E5517F.jpg Stay warm out there Liam -

Ford Focus - Help choosing right ford engine 29 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Just trying to decide what engine would best suit our needs, I originally was looking at the 1.6 tdci but most of her trips are school run and 7 mile round trip to work with maybe a longer journey once a month,so from what I've read diesel wouldn't benefit us. So think we will probably stick with Petrol was looking at the 1.0 ecoboost but read about the cooling problems and that put me off slightly. -
Kia Sedona diesel 2.9 TS - Sedona cutting out at high revs 21 Jul 2017 (Forum)
When restarting the engine management light is out and as long as revs are kept to a max of around 2500, then the car is fine, nippy and running smoothly. It can rev to 3000 in neutral without the same happening. Local garage checked and the code is related to something in the fuel system, it says losing rail pressure but the mechanic checked and it isn't losing pressure, so it's going to cost an arm and a leg just to go through everything, to rule things out and I will be without a car for 2-3 weeks. -
VW LT35 MWB Box-van 2001 5Cyl 2.5TD - LT35 Ignition key coding 18 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Well it started OK and I drove it for a few weeks till I mislaid my keys, so got out the second supplied new ignition key; engine starts and runs for 1 second then dies. Found my keys and the other new key still works. Despite all components being supplied as a box-set, with lots of numbers and stickers to show all components match, WV main dealer insist that the non functioning key must need re-coding at a minimum cost of £75 + vat and it could be more as it may take time to get their current software to work with this old vehicle.
