  • SEAT Toledo - My new car 17 Sep 2018 (Forum)
I've run / owned a whole succession of both Petrol and Diesel VAG cars over the last few years, but more recently felt the urge to scratch a "convertible itch". Given my propensity for VAG cars I’d considered an EOS, but given the reported issues with the complex roof mechanism I decided to stick with a conventional (cloth) type hood.
  • FIAT Stilo 1.6 2002 16V - Car keeps cutting out 28 Nov 2012 (Forum)
id=15&script=showthread&forumid=33" target="_blank">MAP  sensor again which had got a bit more muck in it, and the car was once more run for about 2 hours, once again driven for 30 mins. That evening I took it out and drove it for about 45 minutes and no problems, the car was running brilliantly. So the following day I decided to drive to work (I do a 64 mile round trip) as the final test.
  • BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 520d SE - 12,000m report 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
I thought I'd post this in case you are considering getting one, as I spent much time considering what car to run and what might be useful. O8 MY 520d SE Touring auto, ordered last October for February arrival - 12,000miles since involving mixed traffic dashes to the station in the morning and regular motorway trips of 200 miles.
  • Volvo XC60 60 - Engine replacement 6 Oct 2020 (Forum)
He informed me via text they were closed due to lockdown and he would let me know when they were open. On the 26th of June the vehicle stopped running while I was on the M4. I called jack who said get it here and we will take a look. 7 hours later I arrived at the office address ( not the workshop) on the breakdown truck and left the car and keys as directed in one of their spaces.
  • Ford Focus - Used car fault 2 days into ownership. What do? 13 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I took the car round the block with a mechanic driving and to be fair, no more sounds at that point. Mechanic advised to give the car a good run over the next few days to see if the problem returned. I agreed to continue using it and said I'll be back if the problem retruned. 2 miles up the road, same knocking, just as bad if not worse than before!
  • Mitsubishi Colt - car buying advice needed! 26 Aug 2015 (Forum)
also, i'd love to get something like hyundai coupe for it's looks and reliability, but i think my hubby would be very jealous :) to be perfectly honest, common sense says we should get a smart (small, cheap to run), but we've read a lot of negative reviews - apparently the car's quite problematic... any help will be much appreciated kisses, sandy xxx
  • Peugeot 206 - Peugeot 206 gear change problem 2 Oct 2014 (Forum)
It is difficult (sometimes impossible) to select some gears - it doesn't seem to make any difference if the engine is running or not. With the engine not running - clutch up or down doesn't make any difference. I'm a reasonably competent DIY mechanic and I'm reluctant to take it to another mechanic who will blame the last 3 and replace all of the new parts (again).
  • 2008 Volkswagen Polo 1.4 SE - Engine judder when at idle 5 Aug 2013 (Forum)
I had my air filter changed as it has always been a little smelly when putting the air con on. Got it back yesterday. It's running better but still juddery a little at idle but nowhere near as bad as before. The RPMs are running at idle between the 7/8 mark under the large ten on the counter. Driving fine and no loss of power.
  • Commuter Car Recommendation 26 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Likewise spending a fortune on larger size tyres annoys me but I can live with it if the overall running costs are not excessive. Interested in your thoughts if you would care to take the time to offer a view, especially from those who also commute and may have experienced similar.
  • Renault Clio II - Clio 1.2 16v expression toxic fume warning light 18 Nov 2012 (Forum)
So, wallet in hand, I took it to the independent garage just around the corner and as soon as I explained the problem I was told it was running on 3 cylinders and needed the coil pack replaced.  Even at £150 this was a relief, but unfortunately didn't solve the problem.  The ECU was then sent away for investigation as (to quote the garage report) 'losing number 1 injector signal' but came back without any faults and only need a 'couple of dry solder joints'.
  • ford mondeo 2002 tdci - mondeo 2002 tdci cuts out 30 Jun 2012 (Forum)
so to summarize: the car cuts out without ANY warnging lights No fault codes are recorded. when it is left for a period of time it runs fine for a random duration. it often re-starts and drives NORMALY with topping up the fuel filter but cuts out quickly. whilst stalling emmitts loads of blue/black smoke.   I have read loads about cam sensors being replaced and fixing the issue but with all of these issues everyone has said about glow plug warning lights flashing and I get nothing!

its had a hard life with 2 children (boys now aged 5 and 8) trying there  best to wear out the interior with baby seats, and now muddy football boots etc...and lots of short runs for 3 years of its ownership when I used to run to work (literally) then due to a new job took the car back again...last week we covered 780 miles traveling from Oxfordshire around Devon with a roof box and fully loaded and didn't miss a beat...took 1.5hrs to get all the sand out of the car yesterday....
  • Landrover discovery offroader. - Insurance write off category question 8 Jun 2011 (Forum)
The insurance then authorized me to carry out urgent preventative work on the car in order to prevent further damage. Following the strip out of the interior and running an industrial dehumidifier inside the vehicle for a week and a full fluids drain / flush / refill the vehicle now runs and drives correctly. All electrical circuits have been tested and switches and connections have been treated with contact cleaner etc.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 1.8 coolant temperature woes 10 Mar 2011 (Forum)
She switched off engine but I told her to re-start it straight away so I could check something, and when she did the temp reading went to 90!? Left car running for 5 mins or so and it behaved perfect, fan came on, cooled down, and fan switched off! I'm now starting to think something electrical??!! Again, sorry for length of post, but some help would be very much appreciated indeed!!
  • 2005 Ford Focus Ghia 2.0 - Ford Focus loss of power & engine warning light 29 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I've now had the engine light on for a couple of days and what I can confirm is that when the car is running cold it acts normal, and it's not until about 30-50 minutes in to a journey that I start having this power drain problem. There are a couple of other symptoms which have ever so slightly started to appear - last night when I parked up I could smell the catalytic converter quite a bit, and I've had the odd exhaust pop and the engine overall sounds a little louder than normal, but not engine noise, more exhaust noise.
  • Vauxhall Vectra B facelift - Vectra timing belt problem/dead engine? 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Took the car to a small independent garage which is handy for where I work.  Couple of months of trouble free running were interrupted last week by a rattling from the engine area.  Phoned to book it in for diagnosis, but car would not start to get it to the garage.  It had broken down right next to another garage however, so I asked them to have a look.
  • Volkswagen Bora - Bora TDi PD turbo problems 19 Dec 2010 (Forum)
The car only does 2.5k a year although i make sure it has a couple of longer runs a month aswell as atleast one hard revving run to blow out the cobwebs. • Honda Jazz/Fit (2008 - ) - 5 miles in a new Jazz 9 Sep 2009 (Forum)
t and it rolled back on a hill as I waited for a green light. I was used to it by the end of the short run. The trick boot area with split level floor and part folding floor means no spare wheel and the gearknob wasn?t secured properly. The other downside for me is the clutter of switches on and around the radio as all the aircon controls are in also in the same area.
  • Vauxhall Astra H (2004 - 2009) - 2006 2.0 turbo petrol - Bad situation please help 22 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Approximately 18 months ago I bought a second hand Vauxhall Astra. The car was a 2006 model and still had some manufacturers warranty on it. My car has run well from the day that I got it and I have been very happy with it, I have kept the car maintained to the highest standards although I have not used Vauxhall for any servicing. Last year whilst the car was still under warranty my oil light came on, when I checked the level the oil was fine.
