VW dealer - great service!! 24 Apr 2012 (Forum)
In addition to the service I asked them to change the cambelt and tensioner, check brakes (noisy) and check f/n/s door hinge mechanism as it was clicking a bit on opening/closing. Brakes were found to be OK, door adjusted. I expected a bill of about £600-650. It was £571, which I thought was pretty good. -

Peugeot 106 1.5 diesel R reg - Oil Leak with pictures - Camshaft seal ? 20 Mar 2012 (Forum)
(Cleaned ) http://alturl.com/s9bcv (Same day , after a 100 mile journey) http://alturl.com/kezzd Looking on the internet, a recommendation was to keep the oil level below 3/4's on the dipstick on this model. So, I invested in one of these from Machine Mart for £12 & have found it to be brilliant ! http://alturl.com/j8cyq Now, the oil level is back around half full. -
Volvo S40 - Volvo S40 2.0D - Good Buy? 16 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My alternative is an 09 plate i30 CRDi Premium with 14k miles, again 1 owner and full Hyundai history but of course there's the balance of their 5 year warranty. Have had i30's before and they are value for money if niot exactly the most exciting car (and Volvo is??). Any help appreciated. If they are a bad idea I will look for a Focus or something. -
Volkswagen Passat - Acceleration goes down on motorways 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My VW PASSAT S TDI drives well around town but when I go on motorways, specially if its uphill, you feel a clear damp in the acceleration as someone has applied brakes on it and then its just no power in the engine. -
Honda Civic - Brake Wear 6 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Hi, we have a Civic Type S GT 2.2 Diesal, less than 2 years old with 34,000 miles on the clock and full Honda Service history. Last service was September 2009 when there were no issues. We've noticed some 'rubbing' sounds when braking, and so took it to a dealer who informed us the Front pads are 95% worn, rear pads 90% worn and rear discs corroded. -
Unwanted extras. 20 Jan 2012 (Forum)
The SE gives you 15" wheels and normal suspension. The Sport gives you 16" wheels and sports suspension while the top spec S Line gets sport suspension and 17" wheels. So if you want a good ride and high spec, you are screwed. Audi are not alone either, I have looked at a number of small cars where if you want leather, premium sound system, parking sensors, all round electric windows, climate control etc, which I do, you have to have rock hard suspension, privacy glass, sports body kit etc, which I don't.. -
Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 03 1.4HDi Cold Start Problem 1 Oct 2011 (Forum)
Changed Heater Plugs,Oil and Filters Also Control box for pre-post system, there is a leak somewhere in fuel system, as there is air in the manual priming pump every time I go to restart the car after a couple of hours of being parked up. Been to Citroen Dealer, HaHA ,could be faulty injector(s) might have to change 1 or could end up changing 4,at £250 a pop!Could not be sure that they would get it right first time they said.Well what if I book it in for a diagnostic test said I, No point really was the reply, just bring it in leave it overnight and we'll go from there! -
Honda Accord automatic - buy 2.0i or 2.4 ?? 2 Jun 2011 (Forum)
Looking on autotrader there are lot sof 2.0i autos, many of which are very reasonably priced, and very few 2.4i s which are correspondingly more much expensive for similar spe/mileage vehicle Does this mean the 2.4s are more desirable as a better drive, or just were more expensive to buy/run so people bought fewer ??? -
Jaguar XK8 and XKR (1996 - 2006) - 97 4.0 adding GPS tracker - what connections to 1 18 May 2011 (Forum)
I do have an 'old' tracker fitted to my other car (MX5, connected to permanent +12v) but that plus the alarm will deplete the car's battery within 5 days. However, the MX5's battery is a fairly puny gel type, so it's not surprising. Maybe a normal wet-cell battery will do better ? Thanks Frank -
Mitsubishi Carisma (1995 - 2004) - 03 1.6 How to change a pollen filter ? 11 May 2011 (Forum)
I?ve bought the 2 new filters which ?lock? together, got the glove box off but there?s a bar running across the front of the aircon unit which restricts access. So I assume that I take the filter cover off, remove the old filters, slide the new bottom filter in over the bar and let it drop behind the bar, then slide the top filter in so it locks into the bottom one, and replace the cover. -
Freelander 2 -2.2 2007 - Freelander 2 -2.2 2007 COLD START PROBLEM!! 28 Mar 2011 (Forum)

Corsa B 1.2 and 1.4 - Corsa centre consol lights 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
No real big deal but a bit of an odd one I have two corsa Bs, an S reg 1.4 and a P reg 1,2, one for each of my kids. Both of which seem to have developed the exact same minor niggly fault which is that ALL of the lights in the centre console (heating control etc) have stopped working They did work in both but I noticed a couple of days ago theyre not working in either now The lights on the clocks work, and all exterior and interior lights except those ones are working and I've checked all the fuses in both cars So before i lose a few hours trying to find the fault I thought I would ask on here incase theres a common cause for this and avoid reinventing the wheel as I would rather avoid removing the centre console to fault find unnecessarily if I can help it Cheers -
Any vehicle - Online tyre retailers .... winter tyres! 4 Nov 2010 (Forum)

The iPhone 4 sales phenomenon 24 Jun 2010 (Forum)
As were 3 who had to suffer the 02 queue right outside their shop. This on a weekday too. It`s got to be a reflection of the retail position across the country too. Surely? Wonder what Saturday will bring? I was was also trying to remember past products of any make, that had been so popular at launch. -
How do you steer yours? 15 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Maybe it's because I learnt on a car without PAS, or perhaps it's some subconcious 'mechanical sympathy' thing. I've not driven a car without PAS since the 80's, but I still drive like it's not there. The wife only discovered power assistance in the late nineties, yet is happy to consider steering and moving as two completely separate, unconnected events (whilst I try hard not to cringe). -
Ford C-MAX (2003 - 2010) - 03 1.8 Unstable Idle when slowing 17 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The car is also often a pain to start normally when been standing overnight the car will start then the rev's just drop off to 0 causing a stall. I was wondering if anyone on here has had this problem before I start spending £££'s on parts that do not need changing. Was thinking of changing the Intake Manifold Runner Control valve first Any help or advice would be much appreciated
