  • Nissan Micra 2010 - oil pressure warning light 25 Jul 2014 (Forum)
First 3 services at main dealer, 4th service at local garage - used in the past and good. 2 weeks after service the oil light comes on at tickover (600 rpm) when the car has been driven for about 5 miles. The sensor has been changed to no effect. The sump was removed, that & the strainer cleaned. Fresh oil and filter were used and the problem remains.
  • KIA Magentis (2006 - 2009) - 20 2.0 Gearbox oil 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
After the unfortunate demise of MrMazda's 323f in a low speed crash, I followed the example of the chap mentioned in "car by car" for Kia Magentis and bought an ex dealer nearly 7000 mile one cheap as chips. Having done 15000 miles of my own, I want to follow HJ "running in" advice and change the Gearbox oil - is the drain plug on the left (as you look from the front) of the 2.0LS petrol engine? Do you just drain some gear oil and replace the same amount? Where do you put the new oil?
  • Leaking Oil - Escort 1.4 1998 13 Apr 2007 (Forum)
I think its called the crank, it is the bottom pulley wheel on the cam belt.. right next to the sump. its this that seems to be leaking oil.. any ideas ? Im sorry to keep mithering... A garage would charge me a small fortune.. I aint got it. I did change the back box today all by myself which im dead pleased with, and sorted the handbrake out !
  • Honda gearbox oil 21 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Am I the first person ever to change manual gearbox oil on a 1998 civic 1.4? It certainly feels like it. Honda specify their own oil for their own gearboxes - which seems fair enough. But you just try getting hold of it. My local dealer can't provide any (unless I want 10 lifetimes supply of the stuff).
  • Astra Oil Light Delay 21 Aug 2003 (Forum)
On the same 2000 Astra 1.7DTi (isuzu) with 42k miles of which I have owned for about a month, I have noticed that when starting from cold (and also from warm when standing for minimum of approx an hour) the oil pressure warning light takes a good 5 seconds to estinquish. I have changed oil filter and put some decent Magnatec GTD oil in her, as it never hurts to do so, but alas same characteristic. It never comes on whilst driving and I do know she is slightly over-filled.
  • Vovo D5 oil pressure 22 Aug 2002 (Forum)
My V70 D5 (diesel) Volvo has recently developed a problem. When starting from cold in the mornings the computer displays a brief message "No oil pressure stop engine" this dissapears after about a second. I have taken it to the dealer and they changed the oil pressure sensor. However on starting this morning the same message appears. I have called the dealer and they have booked the car infor further investigations in a week or so.
  • Dirty old `soot ball juggling` diesel? - at 6.5yrs 16 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I had assumed the old oil would be thickening up with soot and as such it would be noisier with new oil. Or is it likely that the the old oil had sheared and was yet to thicken with increased soot loading? The engine sounds like new though actually - perhaps in part due to its half distance oil and filter changes.
  • Peugeot 309 Petrol 1360 CC Problems 5 Aug 2003 (Forum)
    (e) After runnig on LPG, the engine oil is very clean even after 12000 km. Do you still recommend changing it? (f) Is decarbonisation necessary before oil change? What are the products for the same? (g) Can I use fully synthetic engine oils?
  • Maintenance 309 (short run) 20 May 2002 (Forum)
Wheh should I service it then? I'm guessing oil about 5000 or 6 months whichever first and service 10000/12 months Sorry to ramble; just want to make sure I get the maintenance right. So far I've changed the cambelt and had an oil change. Last owner (contacted via V5 because I bought it from a trader) said it was 'serviced recently' but a full service will be in June.
  • Tiguan - VW 1.4 TSI 160 - which oil 26 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Ran a search at Millersoils (below) but not sure what these mean.  Understand this is a senstive engine and needs the right oil and wondered if the different oil had any impact, or am I clutching at straws?   Thanks  http://www.millersoils.co.uk/whichoil.asp   Normal Intervals : Change 15000 km / 12 months Products   Premium :   Changing to Synthetic 21 Mar 2008 (Forum)
I now do quite a lot of short journeys, and I've heard that fully-syntehtic oil is better for this as it has a lower viscosity when cold so circulates...
  • Golf2 GTi - Semi-synth/High milage? 7 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Now I have been to the website: http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/index.html?menu.html&engineoil_bible.html it tells me that you should never go to mineral oil when your car has been used to semi synth and vice versa. So the dilema is; what do i do when the next oil change is due? Stick to the high milage or go back to the Magnatech? Help....
  • Ford Fiesta - Low mileage 24 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I have just purchased a 4 year old fiesta 1.4 petrol with only 11k on the clock. I have done an oil and filter change and filled up with good quality fuel. Can anyone reccomend any fuel or oil additives or should i just give it a good run on the motorway?
  • Finished the years DIY yet? bad weather `e come 1 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Well, I`ve serviced both of ours on the drive earlier this month. Done the door lock, oil leak and EGR. Hopefully that`s it and they will be OK now until a warm day in March/April for the next oil changes. How about you?
  • Renault Scenic (2003 - 2009) - 04 1.9 - Turbo whistle. 23 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Is it normal for a turbo to whistle more in the colder weather? I have noticed it's definitely noisier recently, like a feint camping kettle sort of noise. The oil level is correct and within the 18000 mile oil change interval.

  • dexron 111 with castrol z - oil compatabilaty 5 Feb 2012 (Forum)
I have a hilux surf and auto box runs using dexron 111 oil.Now because its my everyday car for work and towing trailers and a large caravan around europe,.I would like to know weather replacing the dexron 111 gearbox oil with the synthetic castrol z oil is possible.Would i have to have the box completley flushed before changing the oil,or can i just drain the old oil out of the gearbox sump and refill with castrol. As i know some dex 111 oil would still be in the tourque converter, would this matter.I would like to do this because the surf is clocking up around 15ooo miles of towing plus all the weekend run around stuff, and i think the old girl deserves the best oil to keep her going.i,ve had the surf for 4 years and 73,000 miles and never missed a beat. She,s got 169000 miles under her bonnet and still going strong,i just think if there are better oils on the market the surf deserves it.can anybody give me an answer.cheers
  • Bought the wrong oil..doh! 29 Apr 2002 (Forum)
I used .5 ltrs of it to top it up a few weeks back and didn't think anyhting of it until now. I've checked my manual and it seems that while this oil is fine for a 110BHP engine, the 130BHP requires 5W/40 oil to standard VW 505 01 - note the '01' and not '00'! Is this standard of oil significantly different? Can I just keep on using the stuff I've got and hope that it is just lubricating enough until the next oil change 6 months later?
  • Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Oil consumption question 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have a T reg Ford Focus 1.8 petrol which has done 78k miles. I have worked out that since the last oil change which was last November, the engine has consumed about 500ml (0.5 quart/litre) of oil whilst covering about 1000 miles. Is this rate of oil consumption normal and also presumably all car owner's have to top up, some more than others, if there is a full year between services and they have driven say 10-12k miles.
