All part of the (Citroen ) Service? 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Just been to France for a few days. Very successful in stocking up with cheap booze and tobacco products. However, weather was pretty cr*p and my Xantia started filling up with water in back footwell and beneath back seats. -
2013 MK3 Ford Focus Titanium Econetic 140k miles - Urgent help with haywire electricals 7 Sep 2019 (Forum)
I'm going if done of you nice guys and girls could help. I'm on holiday in France at the moment, and my 140k mile Mk 3 2013 Focus Econetic Titanium has just died completely. We were on the A13 in Normandy, and I got a warning on the dashboard center display (trip computer, not radio) saying "Park assist malfunction, service now". -
Citroen Xsara Picasso, 1.6 TDi, 2004, 75k miles - Sudden total clutch slip(?) - no previous symptoms 18 Sep 2015 (Forum)
Advice please! - Am in France and need knowledge/info before a garage 'has me by the curlies...' and takes me to the cleaners! Does anyone have any experience of this? Driving normally, slowing and got a judder (I thought I was too slow for still being in 5th gear), immediately depressed clutch (and engine stalled), changed gear and expected to 'bump re-start' car while still driving - but I had no clutch engagement. -
Renault Espace - Garage sevices 28 Feb 2014 (Forum)
I'm having a nightmare with this one. Last September my Espace went in to limp mode on the way back from France, after we got home I went to my local garage who said the turbo had gone, they ordered and fit a new turbo and for 3 weeks the car ran fine. Then while my wife was driving the acceleration became jerky, I took it back to the garage, they had the car for over a week and couldn't find anything wrong with it and suggested I took it to my Renault dealer, which I did. -
First Time Buyer Need Advice 9 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Also the car MUST have an AUTOMATIC transmission, not manual or robotic manual (like the Honda Jazz II) otherwise the wife cannot legally drive it in France. I have only driven two cars myself a Volvo 240GS Stationwagon (manual) and currently a Citroen C3 at the auto school. I keep hearing bad things about the realibilty of French cars (mostly from the French) so I would prefer something thats not likely to leave me stranded in the middle of the highway. -
The mobile phone - as Sat Nav & voice only 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Without looking at a screen and listening to the very chatty voice - I found I was reading road signs and street names - and was concentrating on them and on the road more. Just as when we memorized paper maps. We will be going to france later in the year and only there will I be able to really test that further. Handy though - just popping it onto the rubber mat on the dash - then pocketing it at stops. No sucker marks, cables or my case, the big free standing Garmin mount. -
Route advice please - Calais to Lot-et- Garonne 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
The viaMichelin puts the distances virtually the same at 886km for the former route and 893km for the latter and only 30 minutes longer but considerably cheaper on tolls - in fact I see that if I take the N20 between Orleans and Vierzon instead of the tollA71 then the only toll part of the second route would be the stretch between Boulogne and Abbeville. Does anyone use the second route (or part of) when going to south west France - I believe the roads approaching Rouen have been upgraded. Specifically can anyone advise if there are any problems around the Rouen - Everex -Dreux - Chartres route and the condition of the N20 Orleans to Vierzon (ie is it single or dual carriageway). -
No oil, engine ruined, Not MY fault (of course) 23 Jul 2008 (Forum)
Its starting to irritate and I`m picking up all the little hints of this underlying failure to accept personal accountability, while before they went over my head. I`m tempted to move to France, buy a big pile in the middle of nowhere and live a rural life with no contact with the UK and the English speaking world, especially the news. Sure a little tongue in cheek, (maybe) but just how do you continue to tolerate the continuing development of self seeking behaviour in UK society AND to read all about it on motoring forums? -
Jaguar X-Type (2001 - 2009) - 2003 2.0D -H/lamp connector, d/board buzz & r/susp 20 Jan 2008 (Forum)
I've just bought a 2003 2.0D LHD (I live in France) at 72K miles. The car is in excellent condition but has a couple of minor problems (I hope!) that forum members might be able to help me solve. I've owned many Jaguars over the years (3.8, XJ6, XJ8, XJS V12) and generally do all the maintenance and most repairs myself so I'm familiar with just about all the usual Jag foibles. -
Driving abroad for the first time 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
......Going back to my home country for a holiday: France! It's the first time I am "going abroad" since I passed my driving test a little over 2 years ago. Passed when I was 22. Anyhow, I am a little worried! Will i get used to driving on the other side of the road very quickly? -
A weekend in Luxembourg 30 May 2007 (Forum)
Very much enjoyed driving on clear and open roads through green and pleasant countryside. Was surprised at the poor state of the E42 from the Belgium/France border down to Calais on the return leg - regular stretches of very uncomfortable poor condition surfaces really tested the suspension - not something I expected on a main French route. The Belgium services were an eye opener for me. -
Speedferries cancel motorbike bookings 18 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Posted knowing that other BRers are bikers and in case I'm not alone as a BRer booked to take my bike abroad with Speedferries. A friend coming on the same motorcyling holiday to the South of France in June advised me yesterday that Speedferries are cancelling all reservations made by motorcyclists. This turned out to be true, and initially as "tour organiser" I pursued the line of getting Speedferries to swap our whole group to another cross channel operator. -
Overnight stays-why so expensive? 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
However, by about 8 pm we realised that it would take all of Sunday as well and thought that, rather than drive 100 miles home and back again, we would stay overnight in Cambridge. Having spent many a night in France in motel type places (anything from £20 to £40 for a double room) and celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in a wonderful chateau in a room which had a shower room, sitting room and bedroom with view over the moat and beautiful parkland for £120 a night we were somewhat taken aback (after Sleep Inn said they had no rooms left at about £50 a night) to be quoted £128 by one large chain and £160 by another. -

FIAT 500 (2007 - ) - Misfuel Hire Car 25 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Should the hire car company share any responsibility for ruining my holiday? Who do I talk to? the hire car company in France? the hire car company in Spain? their breakdown Assistance? The travel company ? or my Visa card provider/bank? {names generalised as you're making an accusation against them, which falls foul of this forum's naming/shaming policy} -
Jaguar XJS V12 (1975 - 1995) - Well, I've got it home 8 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The owner was driving the XJS down from west Yorkshire and found himself trapped in a queue on the M40 after an accident near Nuneaton that - as is the way with the UK Police - closed the whole motorway network for hours. This never happens in France but, as a former British Police employee, I won't comment on their methods. The upshot was, we completed the deal in the ferry port at Portsmouth with minutes to spare to get on the midday return boat. -
Nissan Micra - 14 day French road test 27 Oct 2005 (Forum)
There were front fog lights, which might have been useful, seeing as there was a lot of mist in SW France when we were there - but which weren?t. They didn?t enable me to see any better, nor were cars with their fog lights lit any easier to see than those without. Are these things merely bling? There was also a rev counter. -
The origins of the DCT 13 Jun 2021 (Forum)
So the Tsar Adolfe the task of coming up with a solution for which his existing collection of 21 cars could be adapted to use. When the October Revolution got under way, Adolfe headed back to France where he was snapped up by Andre Citroen (who saw the potential for the half tracks in North Africa). This resulted in various expeditions, starting with a 2000 mile journey across the Sahara to Timbuktu taking 22 days rather than the 6 months by camel train!. -
Priority - For benefit of Galileo 1 Mar 2020 (Forum)
. - galileo I had a run in with the police about a junction and I said to him that unless road signs indicate otherwise or you are directed by an official person you should be giving way to traffic from your right, his reply was since when has that been the case ( or something like that ) to which I replied always. It may have been 'always ' in France, known as 'priorite a droite' but was brought in here to apply at roundabouts, especially 'mini' roundabouts. Yet again a factoid not supported by the Highway Code or Road Traffic Acts. (Driver since 1961, myself) Dacia Duster - 2014 - Help with Renault/Dacia complaint 11 Oct 2019 (Forum)
I was told it would take 3 days to fix it which then came and went got extended to 7 days...again came and went - no contact made to me from the garage (a Vauxhall dealership which Renault use), I was constantly having to ring them to see what progress had been made. Eventually after a week of no car I was told the part was on back order from France so they had no idea when I would have my car back, resulting in various phone calls to ask for a rental car to help me get my children to nursery/school and to work after another week Renault eventually gave in and provided me with a rental car for 10 days.
