  My Citroen ZX 1.9 (Non turbo) Diesel has a strong smell of Diesel fumes at the exhaust (a lot stronger smell than normal - and most other diesels produce). The car runs fine and does not produce any black or grey smoke when accelerating.

  Hi, on 3 occasions in last six months about 2 months apart each, just after I have filled up my diesel fuel tank I have heard a pump running type noise which appears to be coming from the rear of the car. It only lasts for the first couple of minutes after driving away from the station and there are no warning lights etc - any ideas?

  I took my 55 Focus 2.0L Diesel in for it's MOT and service at the main dealer and when it was returned to me I smelt fumes in the cabin when driving. After two days and a couple of local journeys the smell hadn't gone. I took it back and they have diagnosed a cracked fuel injector pipe and want to charge me over a grand to fix it!

  Filling up the Rio last night and caught the edge of the fuel flap cover whilst hanging up the diesel pump, off it pings across the forecourt, other drivers looking on and obviously impressed with my car's build quality, me slightly embarassed picks it up and calmly slings it in the boot.

  , if so can the Cetane levels be too high?again if so perhaps additive should not be used with premium fuels? I am speculating, someone will know the answer. Regards.

  One of the more interesting events was a debate about trying to convert Americans to the idea of driving diesels. The govt regulators there are very keen that diesel take up increases and Ford seem to be leading the efforts to educate. (except in California where they don't want to know apparently). Why does Europe have such a high proportion of diesels?

  My Citroen ZX Diesel (1.9D non turbo) has started to lose power, and there is quite a strong smell of diesel fumes when you drive it. I have tried some Millers injector cleaner, but this hasn't sorted the problem out.

  I have a 99 2.5 tdi audi A4 which has an intermittent fuel leak. Having picked it up and filled it up there appeared a leak under the car. Took it to my local garage who informed me I must have overfilled the car as there was no leak evident to them. Thinking no more of it have recently discovered reasonably small amounts of diesel appearing on my driveway.

  to make buying a diesel car worthwhile in an economic sense? We do around 12K a year and buy used at 2/3 years old and I can't see the virtue on going over to a diesel. I have done a few sums and can't make the diesel car pay its way. higher purchase prices are not ofset by fuel savings unless you keep the car for ten years, which is unlikely Even buying new the same seems to apply.

  THIRD: Lethargic performance: Like about 110 KM/H and all day down hill to accelerate, suspected turbo impellar problems. PROBLEMS SLOWLY SOLVED: 1/. Fit electric clicker stepper fuel pump. 2/. removed squeezie bulb forever. 3/. Can see diesel fuel dripping from water drain nozzle on front of the filter, so ran lead from inlet line direct to electric fuel pump to fuel injector pump.

    As this has happened twice in 4 months the garage made some further calls to Ford who told them that the additives that supermarkets add to diesel are not the same as the additives big brands add to diesel.   So although I'm doing nothing wrong buy using supermarket diesel when you mix it with big brand diesel it causes a "gelling" in the fuel filter which reduces fuel pressure which the engine does not like, hence engine malfunction.
