Ford Mondeo - Rant about blatant lies from second hand dealer 10 Sep 2015 (Forum)
When I actually got some time to check it at home I found the brake fluid below minimum, the coolant below minimum and the washer fluid empty. The brake fluid was the most alarming obviously... Unforunately, being a diesel when I dipped the oil it was already black so I have no way of knowing if it was actually changed. I rang the guy to ask him how he could stamp a service book after leaving the brake fluid so low and whether he actually lifted the bonnet at all and even changed the oil. -
Ford Mondeo MK3 2.0 TDCI 2005 - What is wrong with my car? 6 Mar 2021 (Forum)
While replacing the EGR I checked the inside of the turbo and found it to not be at fault. There is no oil inside and the turbine blades are undamaged on both exhaust and inlet side. I have very little money and cannot afford the extortionate fees diesel specialists charge and every mechanic i have spoken to has told me to get it towed to a diesel specialist but this would very much exhaust all money i have to fix it before knowing what is even wrong. -
16 important OIL questions answered! 8 Jan 2013 (Forum)
The lighter fractions, usually more than 90% of the original crude, are converted into petrol and diesel. Some of the heavier oils, (still dark and smelly!) go through several processes to clean them up and remove wax. Out of about a dozen oily products 4 clear, bright amber oils are commonly used to blend modern engine and gear oils. -
Peugeot 206 hatchback (1998 - 2006) - 03 1.4 HDI poor fuel economy, how to identify prob 12 Dec 2009 (Forum)
The car doesn't smoke much normally but I revved to full throttle a few days ago while stationary and there was a BIG cloud of black smoke the first time and then smaller ones after that but still very black. This left a visible black mark on the wet floor under my exhaust. It has also developed a bad sounding rattle that comes and goes. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2003 1.8 Zetec Tdci 115 fuel consumption 18 Nov 2010 (Forum)
I have replaced the air filter with a K&N replacement filter (not induction kit) as the dealer appeared to have failed to replace the filter when they serviced it (black as the ace of spades!), but this has not improved the consumption. I have also once or twice red-lined it to try and clear its throat (not sure whether this still applies as older diesels used to get a bit sooted up if not revved occaisonally). -
Six months with a Skoda 16 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Overall the car has been a good companion and I would recommend it, although probably as a 2 litre diesel -

A very detailed explanation of how DPFs work 2 Jan 2012 (Forum)
I found this information on the DPF systems fitted to the Jaguar 2.7 V6 diesels, it's incredibly detailed and covers issues including active & passive regenerations, oil dilution and more. The general principles apply to any coated DPF system (i.e. ones that don't use a liquid catalyst additive. -

Peugeot 307 2.0 - Peugeot 307 66 kw 2.0 HDI engine cutting off 18 May 2016 (Forum)
I tried to turn it on again, and managed to come home somehow. When I opened the hub, I noted that diesel oil filter housing is broken. A little pipe was broken. There was disel everywhere spillen all over. My mechanic fixed this by using some black plasticine plastic-like thing. I thought that's it. -
Low mileage Xantia - am I sane to reject 6 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Both plip keys were in perfect order and worked 100%. The engine bay had not been cleaned but it was dusty with no oil stains, new filters and showed signs of good maintenance ? backed by the stamps in the book. There were 2 new front spheres. The radiator was not corroded and heated up evenly down its length as the engine warmed up. -
Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz 2007 - to sc*** or attempt fix? 12 Jul 2025 (Forum)
She needs auto / petrol / boot 350 litres or more / preferably cam chain / around £5k but can stretch for right car / not SUV stylee / working AC / not black. To put it in her words, she wants "a car that goes brum and is as reliable as possible" (don't we all!!) -
Volkswagen Golf V (2004 - 2008) - 1.9TDi 136k miles, 2nd interim report 9 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Bonnet some times difficult to latch shut ? colleague told me that AA/RAC man gave him the tip for a roadside cure to dribble oil from the dipstick into the mechanism... Got a pair of Atera roof bars for the topbox ? although model specific, I will go back to Thule the next time (thanks to roofbox.co.uk for their assistance last year, last Sat before Christmas). -
BMW 5-Series E61 Touring (2004 - ) - 25,000km report BMW 530d 9 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Fuel economy is less of an issue these days than it was in August last year when I ordered the car, when a litre of diesel cost 1,50 Euros. Now it?s less than 1 Euro. I?m getting between 6.3l/100km and 7.0l/100km according to the computer which equals 37 ? 46mpg. More importantly I get around 1,000km between fill ups which justifies my decision for the diesel version over the petrol.
