  Hi Having probs with a MK1 GTi 1.8 Cabrio. Coolant pressurises Have had head gasket and skim, still the same. Checked Thermostat and changed. Flushed radiator. Is there anything else left it can be or am I to assume cracked head? No oil in coolant or water (mayo) in oil.

  Would an old coolant ratio measuring 'thingy' (With the three balls in a pipette tube) measure G12+ in the same way as it would the old blue stuff it was no doubt designed for?

  ...after letting the car idle for ten minutes. So basically I've been looking into getting air out of my coolant system. Followed online advice and allowed the car to idle on a upward incline with the expansion cap off . After ten minutes the coolant starts boiling and bubbling over quite ferociously. To the point where it was spitting out of the tank.

    The coolant also hasn't been changed/emptied in the past 18mths that we've had the car.

  Hi, my coolant level drops from max to min when the car reaches operating temp and stays there unless you release the cap then returns to max also has stored pressure for 24hrs or more any ideas I have replaced the stat, temp senser, & coolant so i am stuck fans never keep in but car never over heats + rad stays cold Help pls the coolant thing is the opposite to what it should be thanks

  I met a friend of mine this lunchtime and he casually mentioned that his coolant was low and needed topping up.I cannot remember ever having to top up coolant in my own vehicles, but he was told by a lady in a car accessory shop to top up with a 50/50 mix of antifreeze & water.

  A friend has a 1992 1.0L Uno. The car has been overheating. Had a quick look and after topping up the coolant, noticed a leak from a hose going into the coolant pump. Doesn't look as though there is a jubilee clip or anything.Just the hose straight in. The water is also very brown with rust. Does the hose have to be replaced or is there another way of stopping the leak

  Have a 1996 Rover 400, which is haemorrhaging coolant. Cannot locate the leak, but think it is from radiator, and am thinking of using radweld. Any thoughts experiences with this?

  I've noticed my 2006 Kia Sportage is leaking from the coolant expansion tank  - from the little overflow pipe that sits just under the cap. Its only a little bit of coolant, and only seems to be when the engine has been hot, then cools down. I've been keeping an eye on it and I've noticed the following: - The cap seems to work, as when you release it you get some pressure release (much less when fully cold) - When the engine is running and hot, I can't see any coolant leaking - An hour or so later, there is a little bit of coolant showing in the overflow pipe, and if you take off the expansion tank cap you can see coolant around the seal.

  I don't know much about cooling systems but there could be an electronic pump to circulate the coolant or a mechanical pump to circulate the coolant. if this circulation is not happening properly (while idling) coolant can reach boiling point. maybe i need to replace the thermostat? any ideas would be helpful....

  Hi my car is loosing coolant alot of it, probably over a litre every 20miles or so, with no smoke, no oil mixture, if it was losing that much coolant would the car normally run, it boost up properly with no smoke, i can do 70 , 80 mph with no issues or smoke.

  A friend bought a 2004 XK8 - very nice it looks too. But it is losing coolant, although there is no apparent leak. He has reported it to the supplying (Jaguar) garage as it is still under their warranty, but they can apparently find no fault. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't coolant loss with no apparent leak mean head gasket failure?

  Hi - I just got hold of a 1998 Fiesta 1.3 Encore and the coolant looks dodgy and I want to change it. Don't want to buy a Haynes just for that, as I am selling it on. Anyone give me some tips on changing the coolant? Best hoses to detach? Bleed valve locations?

  Having read the scare stories regarding head gaskets blowing if the coolant isn't replaced I set about attempting mine. However the Haynes manual is very vague as to the location of the coolant drain plug. Has anyone done one of these before? If so can you please give me some advice/tips as to the best way to accomplish this?

  My wife has a MINI Cooper and reported today that the heater didn't seem to be working as well as it should. I had a look under the bonnet and noticed 1. Hissing and slight coolant leak from the coolant filler cap 2. I took the cap off after the engine cooled down and noticed the coolant level had gone down to 1 inch below the minimum so it has definitely lost a bit of coolant, i've topped this up radiator and heater is now reported as working better 3.

  Like a complete i**** I've poured undiluted coolant into my car. About two litres. I then drive the car about 3 miles before realizing and took it straight back home. I then topped it up with 1.5 litres of water in to hopefully compensate. Why it's needing so much coolant is a question the mechanic will answer, but am I right in thinking it'll be fine and the water and concentrated coolant will just mix as it passes around the engine?

  Planning at some point to change the coolant and brake fluid on the Mondeo, Clio and Kawasaki ZRX, a few questions: 1/ According to Haynes Ford original fit coolant is OK "for the life of the car", I have had it from new so I know it has not been changed for an inferior type or diluted, any thoughts?

  My Mini has developed a fault in that coolant is leaking out somewhere but there are no obvious signs as to where ....   What should I lookfor first ?
